Tongsai Bay on Koh Samui.
Weather is perfect at that time of year.
Open air bathrooms on the balcony overlooking the ocean.
Private bay.
Very exclusive.
Within your price range.
Superb.

Londoner friend of mine married a Welsh girl.
For the groom's speech, he noted that it had been very difficult for them to choose a honeymoon destination. Firstly they'd already been to many exotic places as a couple on "normal" holidays, secondly the monsoon season at that time of year ruled out many more.
Finally, he said, they'd hit on the ideal destination. Beautiful scenery, interesting food and culture, friendly locals who spoke a strange language that no-one could understand. Best of all, it was just down the M4 and over the Bridge.
Half the audience found that hilarious

Our honeymoon was 2 weeks at the Edinburgh Festival and I wouldn't have swapped it for the world - I fecking loved it!!! Given your budget I reckon you could spend Ł1000 on all your flights & accomodation and Ł4000 for booze - bargain!
Of course you'd have to change your wedding date to August though....
Have never been to Sandals, but haven't heard good things about it. Would also avoid standard 'honeymoon hotspots'. A friend of mine headed out to Bali for her honeymoon and said that as soon as she set foot on the plane she stopped feeling 'special' as everyone else was on their honeymoon too. No chance of any free upgrades.

We wnt to Malayasia, couple of nights in Kuala Lupmper, week or so in Penang then a couple of nights in Singapore. Loved it, even if it rained a bit!
Some will recommend Langawi instead of Penang, but not been there so can't comment. Thought Penang was lovely, few things to do, and despite the resort hotels lining the beach the local character was still evident on the other side of the road!
Dubai is lovely but depending how long you want to go for activities are restricted, also when are you going. Can be bloody hot! Also masses of building work going on. Having said that with many hotels there is no reason to leave the hotel complex! However I would be more inclined to use it as a stop-over on the way to and/or from the Far East.

I can Highly recommend Japan
End of March should be about right for Cherry blossom viewing too, it's beautiful!
Not exactly a 'beach' holiday but there's loads to do and see in Japan and they do have some amazing beaches too!
Anyway, just a thought for somewhere different.

Thanks everyone for all your replies - your help was very much appreciated
Today we finally got our honeymoon booked
We thought a cruise was out of the question, however, we have gone for 3 nights in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami, followed by a 9 night Carribbean cruise, visiting :
- San Juan, Puerto Rico
- Phillipsburg, St. Maarten
- St. Thomas
- Nassau, Bahamas
We'll be sailing with Royal Carribbean, on the "Navigator of the Seas" :

Can't wait !
Again, thanks for everyones input, I'll report back in April 2007 !

The problem was finding a cruise that set off relatively soon after we got married - it wasn't possible so we "bolted on" 3 days in Miami

My wife and I went to Atlantis on Paradise Island (Nassau, Bahamas) and that was a nice place, although having gone to Dubai since, I wish I had had my honeymoon there
So my recommedation is the Jemeirah Beach Club in Dubai (and vist the Burj Al Arab whilst you're there - gaudy and bling but great views!).

We were totally blown away by the Dubai experience, even if it is a manufactured one. It has redefined what we considered was "high end" when it came to holidays.
