But that was a portable player, the market is differant there. People aren`t interested in lugging around 3 or 4 films on little discs when you can put divx films on memory cards and play them from that. The ps3 is going to be sat next to a tv quite possibly in the front room, so people will first experiment and buy one film, then if they like it they will continue to buy them instead of dvd`s.

And in response to M$`s add on hd dvd player, How many additinal drive units for consoles have taken off and really succeeded. the tech heads will buy one, but little johnny`s mum and dad won`t, as it is just another expensive add on, to replace a perfectly functional device.

It will be significantly cheaper than a standalone hd-drive / blu ray drive seeing as the 360 already contains most of the workings to do the playback

It won`t matter to the consumer which format wins. Because it will be like the DVD-A or SACD wars, who now buys a player that won`t do both. The same will happen to blue ray and hd dvd. And my money will be on someone like pioneer to be the first to bring out a universal player.

I'd rather pay for a seperate HD DVD drive than have one piggybacked off an already unreliable platform - I suspect most home cinema enthusiasts will do the same, I always trawl through reviews to make sure I dont buy a duffer before getting any kit like that.

Unless some games become HD DVD exclusive on the 360 then the chances of me buying one are slim.
