The sensor i use just now reacts to change in temp at the same rate as the Bosch sensor i used with the GEMS.

OK I'm going to get one and see what I can do with it. How hard can it be?

You'll need to put a thread on the sensor body as it's originally a push fit on the air intake pipe.

That's OK I can sort out the fitting. Just to be sure, is the v3/4 STi sensor the same as the ones that came on later models?

Don't know silent running. I used the V5 sensor, same year as my car.

You don't have a picture or a part number off it do you?

If you get hold of one, let me know the cost. I have a couple of thermistors sat in my draw at work, that I bought for this but havn't got round to doing anything yet.

Well if it's a simple two wire connection and the 'sensor' is just a thermistor, then surely it must be just putting a fixed voltage in and measuring the current coming back out? Or something? It's been some time since I had to think about this kind of stuff LOL

But it is a thermistor then surely it's just a case of getting the right value to work with the Power FC.

2K thermistor is what I got and also what AndrewC is using (according to his post on Page 1).

I would say so, since different sensors tried didn't read quite correctly on the PFC, so took the simplest option of using Subaru's own sensor.

So which is better - bringing both wires through to the ECU or just one, and grounding the other close to the sensor?

And can someone give me a better description of which pin(s) I need on my v4 ECU? Cheers!

Did anyone ever get the part number of the STI sensor or decide upon a thermistor that works correctly with the power FC?

No I didn't. But I can guarantee that an STi air temp sensor hooks up perfectly with an Apexi Power FC. I got hold of one off a v4 or 5, I can't remember which, then I araldited it into an old brass male plumbing fitting, then threaded my FMIC pipe just before the TB to suit.

I grounded one side of it to the inlet manifold and the other side goes through the bulkhead and into one of the pins of the ECU plug - I can't remember which now. Anyway, I just poked it in to what was an unused hole in the ECU plug and bingo - up popped 'Air Temperature' on my FC Commander. It's accurate as well, in the morning when the engine's cold the water temp and air temp start within 1 degree of each other.

Cool, (no pun intended). Where did you get the sensor from?

I could do with one.

off someone who was breaking an STi4. There are usually a few being broken up. As long as you get both sides of the plug that goes with it, you can then do your own wiring.

Ok, got 2 sensors now. One for inlet and one for charge temps that I can switch between. Just need to know the pins on the MY98 ECU if anyone can help.

Had a look at the wiring diagram on Andrew C's scoobymonitor site and I can't see it listed.

Help!!

Wayne.

No I found MY98 a bit of a mystery. In the end I found an accurate pinout on an American website where it had an STi 4 ECU diagram. Luckily, at the time I found it, I was so grateful for the geezer who'd obviously put a lot of effort into the site, that I emailed to say thankyou. Through this I've tracked down where the link was...

NorthUrsalia.com: Wiring Diagrams And ECU Pinouts

This site doesn't seem to come up on searches much, but it's a goldmine.

Ive copied this from the 22b forum for V3/4 pinouts

edit also found this image on http://www.northursalia.com/modifica...g/v3and4-4.jpg

The Ravensblade site now has some STi V3/4 pinouts, there appear to be 2 conflicting sets but the last of the 4 pages shows B135-pin 1 is the IAT input.
I have just added a wire to that pin (the std loom doesn't have a wire there) and when I ground it the IAT changed from the fixed 20C to 130C, nothing else seemed to be affected.

I'll wire up a trimmer and calibrate the input conversion.

Andrew...

Would I be correct in thinking the MY93-96 PFC doesn't have this feature?

Correct.. it is possible it is there on a spare pin somewhere but I doubt it.. never had time to check for it.

I've got everthing ready to wire in my sensor to the Apexi on my 97 uk car.

Question- Will there be any tweaking of the base map or will the Apexi self adjust the fuelling according to temperature?

Cheers Simon.

This thread is very useful, escpecially if you can find out whether there are any adjustments needed to the FC. Hopefully it can be done via the commander.

Andy
