According to the MOT manual; if it was made before August 1995 then it should be subject to a non-catalytic converter test (as its not correctly recorded). Whether the MOT tester will accept this or whether he will attempt to subject the car to a 1600cc emission test I cant say.....

Simon

btw; you can say Scunthorpe, if youre tricky enough

The numbers do sound a bit high. I've got the APS which is 3" until the backbox where it drops to 2.5", with the 4" tip. With a calibrated meter, I measured 89dB(a) at 5k rpm 1m, 45º, and it was only 75dB at tickover. Many exhausts tend to give high 90's or over 100 for the loud ones on the same test, although with the OEM peashooter I measuured just 78dB(A). I really doubt a healthy Milltek will be producing 96dB at idle on the same test.

Many thanks for your reply. I consider the APS as a bench mark for the Milltek one i have as both are 3".

the fundamental difference is APS has a CAT in the downpipe and has a resonated center and back box all 3" pipes, according to their Aus website its about 93db. The one you have is 88db, so your spot on with your tests.

The Milltek 3" (for single scroll) has a non-resonated downpipe to center section resonated with CAT.

perhaps having the CAT at the front and maybe a larger center resonator is the major factor ?

I will wait and see what can be done by Powerstation when i see them again next Monday.
