Staples UK / inc the office/Stationery supplier

The business plan set, is to move from 16/17 billion Dollar to 30 billion Dollar company by 2010.

Since joining back in 1995 the company has just got bigger & bigger.

1986: first store opened in the states

Uk only:
1995 = 22 stores & 1 Direct Delivery Centre

2006 = 137 stores, two retail distribution centres & 1 Direct Delivery Centre

It's an ever expanding company & a good opportunity for new starters.

Wow... double it's turnover in 4 years, that's actually quite rubbish..... you should be looking to double and business within at least 18 months, or what's the point!

And turnover doesn't easily equate to profit.............. 30$B in turnover may just equal only 1$ in profit.... would you say that was good...?

The question was asked as to who the company is, I simply supplied brief detail.

It's not a race to build the business, we are already a massive player throughout the globe.

20yrs old, I would say profits would still be minimal.

you have your opinion.....

What are you on about? if it was say 100k - 200k fair enough but to go to 30 billion dollars i'd say is pretty good going - i'd be amazed if their profit on 30 billion was only 1 billion at the very least 1.5 probably more like 3 billion

Not a bad return IMO

I have a feeling we are either all working for the same company (scarey) or competitors.

Who's going to name first?

Last year Tesco turned over £34 billion, their profit £2.2 billion.
So 1.5-2 would be about right, depending on profit margins.

I've been in Logistics / Freight Forwarding (by air) for 22 years nearly and boy has it changed in that time, and what with all the new customs regulations coming in during 2007 I don't know if I want to hang around any longer.

Very interesting dealing with live animals, Dangerous Goods, Radioactive,Controlled drugs etc but it's become a pain in the backside and there are a lot of clueless people in this business who think they know what they doing because they can whack a packet of documents in a bag and give it to some old wholesaler to get it across the atlantic, and a lot of the airline staff are just as cluless, shame they subbed so much work out.

Anyone have any dealings with LH, how fookin poor have they become recently, these guys used to walk off with all the awards, not anymore, they're worse than BA!!

Dangerous goods are a pain, wouldnt be as bad if there was just one standard way, be it air, road, or sea instead of having the different bodies and different requirements for paperwork, legilisation etc. Found out the other day that the customer who's site I work from had been signing off dangerous goods for air when they are not qualified to do so. Lucky for them that nothing went wrong otherwise they would be in deep **** now.

You should see some of the stuff I have to tranship, how they got on the aircraft to start with amazes me, DG regs seem so lax in other parts of the world, i'm forever having to send stuff off for a repack or new certs.
