Had mine mapped tuesday, now running 1.4 bar!!! Thats nice too!!
I know what a map does - it increase performance, but what do you have to do to have a map. Do you have to buy a new ECU? If so, what type.
Can you get your original ECU mapped?
Do you have to change other things?
How do they do it, and what does it cost?
Cornelius, Please PM me about your ScoobyECU, price and does it need mapping (I dunno )
all cars have a map. even as standard. it's a programme that tells the car, via the ecu, what timing to run, how much fuel to put in and tonnes of other processes.
Early impreza ecu's aren't really mappable. newer cars have mappable ecu, i think 97 on can be re-mapped. you'll normally get better mapping with after market ecu. all depends on what year of car you have and how much you want to spend.
That's a very simple view and don't take it as gospel. I'm sure someone will be along to correct anything shortly.
IIRC its MY99 cars that can use ECUTEK mapping, think its 97/98 that there was a gap where not much could be done bar a ECU change and before that scoobyecu... maybe....

Apexi PFC is advisable on the pre 2000 cars, chipping the early cars is a laborious task and not for the faint hearted. Post 2000 ECUs can be remapped using a multitude of different applications, it's no longer reserved for EcuTek and leaves you free to remove all traces of any changes at any stage, something EcuTek may not let you do at the present time.
