That only works for Oblivion, to clear the cache for everything you need to

Go to the system blade and then memory. Press Y on either the HDD or a MU and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a blade will pop up saying: This will perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices. Do you want to continue? Pick yes or no.

 

While the countdown is starting, you want to hit the gas on the number 3, at 2 hit the brakes while still having the gas on and causing the tires to start spinning. At one take your hand off the gas and time it right so when you start, you hit the gas at the exact time the countdown has stopped. This will give you the boost start and you will know by the flames as well as the message “ boost start ” on screen, you will also get a score for it.
Do not hit the “A” button while trying to get the boost start, doing so will cause you to miss it. Now, an easier way to know is by the rear brake lights. Time them to blink in the order described above and 9 out of 10 times you will get the boost start.

It seems there are a few ways of doing it - some more complicated than others. Havent tried it but the easiest so far seems to be hold both triggers + A when waiting for other players and release the brake on '3' then let go of the accelerator on '1' and then immediatly back on...
