Just got back from France and filled up twice (at different garages) with Shell V-Power and it was marked as 98ron on the pumps (it worked out at 102.9p a litre as well). Filled up at Leclerc supermarket in Boulougne on the way back with 98ron at 94.9p a litre.

Have used both 100ron fuels on the Autobahns V-Power and V-Max.It's top stuff and as stated if your mapped for 98/99 the 100 ron will be much better but without any adjustments. Jap Imports will become more popular.

Plenty of Optimax in Manchester (Salford) this morning 97.9p a litre . But none in Cockermouth this afternoon when I got back home , all Optimax pumps closed and 103.9p a litre.
I`ve never tried sainsburys super but Total Excellium super unleaded is OK .

Why is everyone getting their panties in a bunch!

Switch to Tesco Super... I use it and have never had a problem.
My scoob runs just as well on Tesco as it does Optimax!

In Slovakia the Shell garages sell 2 types of V-Max, a V-Max Racing which is 100ron and a normal V-Max which is lower, around 98ron IIRC. I was filling up a Skoda Fabia 1.2 so didn't take too much notice at the time.

If they are replacing Optimax to V-Max. Then will the OPtimax Loyalty card still be valid?

optimax is being replaced with a new improved higher ron fuel, they are going to start putting it into service station tanks which is why they are running the old grade down, so that when all the point of sale and advertising kicks in, the fuel in the tanks is 100% the new grade

its not being withdrawn

It will have to be IMO.

They can't just discard all the hard earned oints people have built up. I am on over 10,000 points now and would be really p1ssed if they I was told that they were now useless.

My STI has done 30,000 miles in the last 15 months and only drinks either Sainsbury SUL (if local 93.9p) or Optimax if away from home.

Makes absolutely **** all difference.

It did once have a tank of Tesco 99 and it made **** all difference too.

Default Tesco 99 RON

My local Tesco has recently got 99 RON in - Broughton Retail Park near Chester. It is currently 98.9 a litre - I think it runs slightly better than on Optimax?!?

I don't - it is compeletly unneccessary as it is a UK car and by law has to be work quite happily and still meet Subaru's 60,000 mile warrenty on 95 RON.

There is a difference in performance between fuels, even the 'high grade fuels'.

My 04 STi WR1 (and the wifes 05 STi) were running happily on Optimax, until the local Shell garage changed to a BP garage (not even stocking Ultimate) which forced us to top up with Excellium from a Total garage, at first everything seemed fine but after a month or so both cars started to lack in performanc and some mornings they wouldn't even start straight away, and took 2 - 3 attempts to get them going! so in a nutshell we decided to use the closest Shell garage we could find (20 mile round trip) but within one week of using optimax both cars returned to normal......

Could've been a bad batch from total? but there was a difference........

There was a problem with Optimax supplies in some parts of Scotland about a month ago. My local Shell was out of Optimax for 2 weeks! Various rumours were driver shortage (normal unleaded/diesel come 1st), wrong additive added and changing to V-POWER. I had to use BP Ulimate which is very pricey but kept me going.

I have just rang Shell to confirm what is going on, as this could be a big problem for people like myself who have race cars specifically mapped for Optimax - not the change but the shortage during any change over IYSWIM.

The person I spoke to at Shell HQ said there is no plans to introduce any new fuel or stop supplying Optimax. He seemed quite certain and said that he is regularly briefed on what products are being introduced and something like this would be mentioned long before it was actually happening.
