My all time favourite games were all by the bitmaps. I think I bought every one of their games.

Gods, Xenon 1 & 2, Magic Pockets, Cadaver, Chaos Engine etc. I never get tired of playing them (even now)...

Iain, did you get any of the more recent 3D RTS stuff we did like Z:Steel Soldiers or Frontline Command?

Just remembered quite an obscure one...

Echo the dolphin!

was something quite satisfying about doing somersaults out of the water!

"We" did? You worked for them? Cool. I really liked speedball.

I was working on a new next gen version of Speedball before I left, it was years ahead of its time. Very nearly became an Xbox Live launch title for 1st gen Xbox til they decided to focus on 'core sports'

Try googling Speedball Arena.

You can see some concept screenshots from a loooooong time ago at:

http://www.ownt.com/dev_updates/2001...speedball.shtm

If I make my millions doing what I'm doing now I'm going to self fund it

Yep, I bought both of those. Z was insanely difficult if I remember correctly. I really enjoyed frontline command though

I was looking forward to speedball arena. Shame it never appeared...

Steels Soldiers was easier than Z. The unit balancing was a nightmare as we had full 3D motion, land, sea and air units, true splash damage etc. It was very hard to avoid there being 1 all-powerful unit or strategy.

Speedball Arena....well, watch this space, although it would unlikely be under the Bitmap moniker..........

Populous was another addictive game. In fact I think I played Amiga games for longer than any other format since.
I still use mine -

Speedball 2
Micro Machines
Sensi Soccer (best game EVER)
Settlers
Lemmings
Bomberman
Lotus Turbo Challenge

and a whole lot more.....

Shadow of the beat was a computer game first, then a console game by Psygnosis. Used fancy graphics, paralax scrolling etc.

Altered beast was originally a Sega arcade machine, and was ported to the consoles afterwards.

That would be cool. Shame to lose the bitmap moniker though. It was the bitmap name / games that persuaded me to persue programming as a career...

Ahhh Bomberman, what memories!

Gotta be Bomberman and Mariokart for most playable games ever!

I'd forgotten about that one. I wasted far too much time on that
