Why do we need to watch our mirrors?
Is it because some oil burner will come up behind at warp 10 in the rain, with his wife and kids and dog onboard, while there is traffic infront and assume that not only are they faster than anything else on the road but they also have brakes that rival an arrestor wire and the driving reflexes of an F1 driver.
Even a 1.0l micra will go above a ton, just because you can sit behind someone doesnt mean you have the faster car!

I had a golf tdi up behind me a few days ago. Literally chased me around in traffic a foot off the back bumper. Soon as we hit the dual carriage way though I left him trailing... TDi owners definately think they are driving the dog's danglies it would seem. Dillusions of grandure.
to add
lots of comments about 300 bhp being the limmits, I know of at least 5 wrx's that are well above 350bhp and still running fine with standard box's
my 386bhp might take the **** a bit
think we all agree we are on borrowed time, but as yet no failures

They may have shed loads of torque but usually **** all power to back it up once the initial surge is passed!
A few facts to throw in...
The gearbox/transmission on WRX has no problem taking 350bhp kind of power, it's the bottom end that starts to run into problems.
A mapped 310 WRX will out perform an STI PPP in a straight line and with a few simple suspension mods, point-to-point as well. This will be that a PPP never makes it's claimed 305bhp figure - the most I've seen is around 290bhp. Also the smaller td04 turbo won't have the lag issues if the td05 so you'll have better acceleration available out of corners providing you have some suspension mods in place.

a td04 does has less lag issues than a td05
but a wrx with 310 bhp will not have a td04 and STI ppp will have a vf35 not td05 ...... or am i missing something
its wasn't that long ago that 300bhp would have been a no no on a wrx, look how things have changed

With regards to the gearbox you can smash one with standard power if you're driving with no consideration for your car. If you're a half decent, smooth driver then with higher horsepower it'll be the bottom end that'll give way b4 gearbox.

When compared with an STi PPP of which I have never seen one put it it's claimed hp , it clearly shows on the dyno graph that the WRX has 70hp more at 3500rpm than the STi...Now in the real world that is where I would want it...I have no doubt that on the race track I would rather be in the STi , but on the road give me the WRX any day...

plenty of track abuse, and a 2.5 with around 400lbft
