I would. Newage is heavier, less involved drive. Ok so there built better and are safer. Classic is more raw and more fun.
Which is what an impreza is suppossed to be about.

what planet are you on ???

I could afford a blob eye ,bug eye and blob eye added together

but I have real Class and Style

the Classic is still the best looking car

especially in Wagon form

also Green is the Fastest

Classic's look very dated now IMO - and to a lot of people they must just see them as "a chavved up old banger" - but value for money you cant knock them.

You can pick up a classic WRX for a couple of grand - thats a very cheap 280bhp!

I prefer the later classic's, as many people have said the 2 door model are the best looking cars Subaru have made.
Would love a 22b but can't warrent £20K for an 7-8 year old car, would buy a newish EVO for that sort of money.

RESPECT UR ELDERS

FACELIFT classic - definitely the best looking Impreza - dont think they look dated apart from the fact most modern cars seem to have been designed by a blind 5 year old.

And yes, I could have afforded a bugeye or blobeye - wouldnt buy the bugeye as its too ugly - did consider a blobeye, but if I were going to spend that much money, I'd probably go for a different make of car.

The looks of the new model have grown on me though, so wouldnt rule one out as next purchase ( unless I go for an Evo instead ).

I also own a Ducati 748 - which is THE BEST looking bike ever made ( along with the 916, which is the same apart from the engine size ) - could have bought a new Ducati, but they are disgustingly ugly.

Ok guys i will come clean.....I posted this to see how many would bite and to my surprise not that many did.
I like all Impreza's, even the bug!
It is my opinion, and only my opinion, that classics are starting to look a little dated now.
But as they say, each to their own.

As a natural progression from this post, I was curious to know what people on here think of the bugeye?

My opinion of ALL the newages is that they are too big, too brash-looking (sti spoiler is an absolute joke... about as elegant as a bit of 8-be-2) and just plain ****e. They could have made a modern-looking replacement for the classic but they made a right cows-**** of it and have spent the last six years tinkering with a turd.

When my classic goes to meet its maker, it'll have to be a different car altogether for me.

I like em 'the bug-eye' with tasteful mod's,

i'm considering buying a brand new model now.. But the classic is the original and theres no chance im selling mine!! I will always love the classic and i think the new ones aren't a touch on the classic. They do have a more refined feel to them though.

This 22B Nr 287 is for sale on a Jap website, only 18000kms! Price: 498.9万円 which i think is around 23,679.98 Pounds.

Looks beutiful but the best classics are wagons!.

Classic owners are just too tight to buy a new one so use the 'Classic' class as a reason to hang on to it.

so why is it then that some classic owners i know have spent in the region of up to 15k on there pre 2000 models, think its called preference, half of these new models barely make out of the showroom

Had a classic for nearly 4 years, MY00 PPP'd decat with Brembo Brakes, 17 inch wheels, Bridgestone SO2 PP's etc, got into a new MY03 Spec C, and sorry to say, the classic felt old, didnt handle as good, all that modding and a brand new tight JDM STi whooped its *** in every department, just a much more focused driving machine.
And to prove the point, i took a V3 STi Type RA out, and it wasnt anywhere near as good as my MY03 either (it was also modified, exhaust etc).
Classic owners in 99.9% of cases have never owned a new age car because they think they are ugly, i personally think the new age are nicer than the classics (as do 99.9% of new age owners who have come from classics).
Classics were good, new age are much better

Let me get this straight, you start off comparing a lightly modded UK turbo to a 3 years younger Spec C, hardly fair is it? Even with the small amount of mods you list, the uk car still wouldnt be as powerful as a bog standard classic wrx. Then you *confirm* your point by taking out a 9 year old typeR, are you for real?

A high number of classic owners have no wish whatsoever to change from a classic to a new shape for a number of reasons, not soley because they know and not 'think' the new cars are ugly.

Subaru have had six years of development now to improve on the classic. In areas where it counts IMHO they have not done this. In terms of performance the new age should be streets ahead of a similar specced classic, and I'll wager that they are far from this point, even lagging behind the classic.

If youre taking about quality and spec of trim, better damping etc then the new ages are probably better than the classics, but so what? The car I have now is a much better car to drive and look at then any Impreza Ive owned and its got windy windows and NOTHING in the interior, squeaky, noisy, bits drop off it and the firmest of firm rides.

To purchase a new sti with all the trimmings, probably costs the same as 2 very nice sti version5/6s, says it all really for value for money. Or even take a standard typeR, throw 5k it at and it will **** all over your 03, and throw the balance of your savings into the bank.

Classics weren't simply good, they were iconic cars and way ahead of anything else in their market (apart from evo). New ages may be 'much better' in some areas, but theres hardly a massive gulf between them and the rest of the market.

It really does show how much you dont know about the latest JDM cars doesnt it
You also seem to be comparing the classic JDM cars with the newer UK cars, oh, lets see..... JDM cars have 280ps out of the box comparing to a 265ps car..... oh now as you put it "thats not really fair is it?".
As for throwing 5k at a type r to get it up to the standard of the latest JDM cars, i can sit here and quite happily laugh my head off at that stupid remark, so your going to add a 6 speed box and diff, upgrade the brakes.... ah not much left from 5k now is there?
Stop talking about what you dont know

You're assuming that I'm comparing a import typeR with a new uksti, I'm not. Even if I was though, it's could be comparable due to the VFM factor of being able to get 2 typeRs for the price of one UK car.

And where did I say that I'd spend 5k on a typeR on getting it up to the standard of the latest JDM? I was saying throw 5k at it and it would **** all over your 03, not simply just make it to the same standard

As far as I know the diff set up on a typeR is very good, the brakes are good, but if you wanted to add upgraded pads, braided hoses and possibly grooved discs, can't see that being a fortune. And why would a 6 speed gearbox be required? Seems to me youre spending my 5k on pointless and unneeded mods, possibly much in the same way you did with your uk turbo!

I may not know as much about newshape cars, but its patently obvious you dont know much about classic cars, especially typeRs. Running a uk turbo with a few minor mods isn't the same sunshine. It's I that is laughing at you spending loads on a higher depreciating car and gaining almost nothing in performance.

To surmise, I recommend you reading my posts properly before you jump in wearing your ignorant hat.

LOL... as usual this thread is pointless. Classic owners will say new age cars are ugly, heavy and slow. New age owners will call classic owners chavs and their cars old, out dated rust buckets.

It's horses for courses, i've had classics and i'm now on an MY06. Why because i now have a baby and wanted something with a warranty, quiet but with a bit of poke. My classic would have deafened the poor girl before she was one . In terms of value, yes classics are good but some poeple want a new car for the piece of mind of a warranty.... please show me a new car that has 4 wheel drive, turbo and 0-6 in 5.5 for just over 20k. The new cars are still good value for money

Tony.
