And the other handles like a dog, understeers woefully, has overweight rubbery steering, which loads up completly wrong on cornering - this is compared to other hum drum shopping trolley cars And even the "lotus tuned" variants (different shocks- nothing else IIRC ) were only a marginal improvement.
....care to explain in further specific details as to why?

I have owned a Nova and a Corsa (as well as driving examples of both owned by mates) and my conclusion is they drive the same. Which is really no surprise as they both have the same chassis and suspension.
I actually preferred the PAS steering on the Corsa which was relatively quick at less than 3 turns lock to lock compared to the Nova's.

fairy muff that's your opinion. Were you comparing like with like? Maybe the Corsa had worn dampers or suspension bushes?
Non had PAS, up until we had diesels..now they were mega twitchy. Then progressing onto Corsa C which is the best yet. But still a far cry from the Clios or Saxos that were also in the fleet. Although at least they stayed in one piece.
This is all base models too. But I have driven Gsi versions of the Nova and Corsa, and I still prefered the Nova.

ball joints and track rod ends are different on the 'lotus tuned' ones .. and handling on a stock corsa with stock shockers is aload of **** .. there too soft too put a decent suspention setup on one and there a whole world better . alot more point and throw . standard they feel abit like an old volvo lol .. comfy but thats about it

I used to have a let corsa running 260-270bhp, 4pot wilwoods, coilovers, full saftey devices cage, 16" speedline allessio's(correct offest) etc etc etc It was an absoloute monster of a car, it would have pissed all over my MY99 uk turbo in a straight line and would have won round a track as it handled ok and was just so blisteringly quick in a straight line! It kept up with a new tvr tamora up to 120mph(private runway) and was so much fun! grip isnt bad in the dry either, just need to drive them properly in the wet they are useless!

There is a lot of narrow minded people on this post. Just because we're not talking about a Subaru it must be ****?!?
The scooby has become the Nova of our time, everyone has one.
I owned a 2.0L Nova and it handled quite well. I bought it with the engine already done, but they brakes were still from a 1.0L. I remember the first time I went out in it, I put the foot on the brakes and stopped about 20 meters up the road !
The brakes were the first thing I changed on the car. I sold the car on to buy my Scooby and the guy who bought it from me put twin 40's on it. It was supposed to be well rapid.
I quite fancy a Corsa turbo. How cool would it be to pull up along side some of you 'narrow minded' subaru drivers and blow you away !

My rule of thumb is to start with somthing half decent in the first place. Unless you want to go spending over £10K on completely new brakes, completely new suspension, plus chassis stiffening, as well as the engine upgrade.
Whereas on other "better" base vehicles you may only need to just change the shocks and springs and use some better brake pads to accompany the engine upgrade, whilst getting the same end result for less money
Now where is that thread featuring the sleeper clio gone to?

TBH, its not done for looks, style, or even a nice drive. Its a hobby.

What a load of bollocks is being posted on this thread.
Nova's, especially in Sport trim handled very well, and made cracking rally/sprint/hillclimb/race cars when modded appropriately.
For the cost of a set of speedline rims and new tyres on a scoob, you could updrade suspension/wheels/tyres/brakes on a Nova to make it out corner and out handle any Impreza in the "twisties"
Much the same could be done to Corsa, with the benefit that the Corsa had a stiffer shell to begin with.
Just because you see £100 chaved up Novas and Corsas doesn't mean you can't build decent ones.

I run a beat up XE Nova on the drag strips for fun. It costs bugger all to repair and surprises many people on the road. Far better to break that than my Subaru from a cost point of view. Should be cracking 12's in it this year with a bit of gas. As for handling it's spot on. Maybe the people that struggle to get them round the bends need to examine their ability as a driver!

Being old I remember the Nova Gsi rally cars - in the hands of the right drivers they took overall rally wins in the British Championship........they can definately handle......even a young Mcrae cut his teeth in a 1.3.........

which car has had 11k spent on it?
gotta agree, scoops look silly at the best of times, even when they are functional

Yup, FMI and the bonnet from a Sport - that's the way to go.
Nothing wrong with a quick Nova (or Corsa), but you do fight against the torque steer and all that weight up front with the 2litre and turbo lumps.
As adrenaline-filled suicide boxes, I can see the appeal.....
