so what does that say about your companys??? They need to stop squeezing there suppliers with costdowns year after year!!!

we got the big squeeze from the blue oval to reduce the price of a part, no can we or would we... just "as of xx date we are paying 1 euro cent less per item."!!

what are suppliers supposed to do???? they do what they can and try to manufacture the component using cheaper methods etc..

The car has gone in for it's new clutch, and new rear trailing arm bushes. The loan car is a new 320i touring manual. Not a bad car, but 2 cylinders less than it should have

The car will be ready at 3pm, so they are fast workers ! The bodyshop man is putting a repair cost in for the rear damage too.

UPDATE:

Whilst the car was having a new clutch, the dealer called to say the flywheel is fooked - another £600

Just to clarify:

New Manifold x2
New Turbo x1
New DP x1
New CAT[s] x1
New Clutch x1
New Flywheel x1

In addition it has had it's 2nd service of this year, and a full set of 18" tyres. We are renaming this year, the year of the BMW !

The car in question is a 1 Director owner car, registered September 2002 covered 62k with FBMSH from 1 dealer.

I would like to add. Despite the above problems BMW (GB) has been more than helpful. Bearing in mind it is well out of warranty, they have offered to pay for the manifold, turbo, DP and CAT[s] and half the labour cost. Cost to us (the customer) £600

In addition, they have offered to pay a large percentage of the bill on the clutch and the flywheel [RRP £1000+] i think we pay £300.

So if this story has put you off BMW's, let this statement change your mind. I have had many marques of car and never experienced that kind of support.

Pat on the back BMW !

I suppose that's reassuring in an odd sort of way. (I bought a 330d a few weeks ago, and this thread got me awfully worried!)

Still well within the warranty on ours... however, the thought of driving a 1-series has caused me to break out in a cold sweat.

Cheers,

Fair play, and good to hear that they're stumping up for some of it.

It's always worth asking if something fails out of warranty - renault paid 80% of a replacement cat on a 4 year old car with 40k on the clock for me.
