Agreed
I use a 50/50 water/methanol mix in my water injection
I also add methanol with the fuel at the pump - cant use too much as

1. It does not mix with fuel well - not over 20%
2. It burns at a higher temp than fuel I believe

But for me it does a good job, provide plenty more ignition advance and is cheaper than race fuel (I run at circa 26/27 psi)

Chip

Who sells the proper race fuel for half the price? I spoke to Silverstone a few weeks ago and 100RON is £2/L at the moment and increasing!

My gaffer races cars, and a while back I asked him how much a drum....about 200 quid. Mind, it was a while ago, and fuel prices have gone up alot I suppose.

That would have been at least 10 years ago! £200 for a drum (205 litres) - no chance

I couldn't find anything suitable under about £3.00 / litre, but that was delivered.

The problem with methanol is that it has about half the energy density of petrol. So having a very high octane will mean that it won't det, but in turn won't produce any power. There is much more to getting power from a fuel than just the octane rating, but unfortunately that won't show up on the det link that some people believe is the answer to everything.
