P1 prices
Trigger,
What exactly is the Provdrive version of the STi. As far I understand the only difference between the standard STi and the Prodrive Sti is cosmetic. Secondly the Prodrive STi is not limited to the UK it is available in Japan and throughout europe.

So immediatley the desirabilty of the new car has been reduced. I have no doubt that Prodrive will announce a PPP package for the STi to get it back up to 280PS and they may even sort the suspension out. If those mods warrant a P2 badge, remains to be seen. The P1 and 22b where brought to the British market to combat the ever increasing number of imported STi/WRX. Now that the STi is coming over here officially what would be the point in introducing another variant of the same model into a market that is already saturated.
How on earth can you say that the P1 is not a classic when the old shape impreza has been dubbed the CLASSIC performance car of the 90's by just about every motoring journalist.
I'm sure when the Integrale and Escort/Sierra cosworth came onto the market no one thought they would be classics and yet years down the line those cars still fetch very good money especially the unmolested ones.
I wont bother to repeat what Wilf has said and as I said previously about trading in cars in the first year of ownership.

Another good thread
Some cant see why people choose a MY01 over a P1 if they are the same price !.
From my side owning both its easy. The P1 IMHO is a great second car if you do lots of miles. As an eveyday car its crap. The new car is superb, and with the PPP pretty good power wise.
I loved my time with the P1, but now it looks like a 90's car (which it was) and damn ugly. I'd still like one in the same way people love having a Caterham for a Sunday morning.
Still time to move on to that M3 barge that is as we speak in the bodyshop being painted in Germany (IM could learn how nice it is to be able to track your own car).

My P1 has 23k on the clock, no problems to date, two stone chips on the front lip spoiler which I'd have to be a real pedantic **** to gripe about.. A much easier and more comfortable ride than my old MY99 with 17MIMS and SO2s.... I don't give a flying toss about residual loss and falling trade prices, it's still one of the least affected models on the market, whether that's due to dealer false inflation or not.
Impreza's, specifically STi, 22B and P1 are not motorway cruisers. So why bemoan the ride quality and harshness of the car and the quality of build. It's a road going rally car for god's sake.
Prodrive are a race and rally engineering company and that's why I bought the car and I suspect on a larger scale, why Ferrari have now adopted Prodrive as one of only three external companies contributing to the development of ferrari road cars, because of the success of the Prodrive Ferrari on track.
They are not and have never been great car finishers or valeters.
If you've got 30K to spend and you don't want to join the ranks of blue shirt, gold bracelet brigade, bullying their way around the M25 in warmth and comfort - then buy a P1.
If you want to drive "the ultimate driving machine" then buy a german barge
I'm soooooooooooo tired of this P1 bashing.

I could be wrong but I read that Prodrive were bringing a car out next year which boosted power levels back to the Jap spec Sti level. Whether they called it a P2 or not was being debated.
I just cannot agree that the P1 is a classic. It is a great car, but nothing more than that. It was overpriced when it was new, and accordingly struggled to sell. Whether you prefer the Sti or the P1 is purely subjective and depends on type of driver, roads used, trackdays etc etc. So what makes the P1 that much more 'classic' than a Sti ? Nothing really, in my mind. Values I think will reflect that and as you are never going to struggle to source one, how can values hold up. The 22B is a completely different anaimal and a classic IMHO.
I am NOT P1 bashing, as I love all these variants, I just think you have to look past all our love for these cars. They are fairly flimsy, and hardly pretty cars. But they have enormous performance - if that is important to you, then it is worth overlooking everything else - if not, you buy a BMW like so many people on this BBS.
By the way, I have a Sti, love it and have no intention of selling it.

I did to start with but uou will soon get fed up .......believe me.
I used my car every day and it made me smile every day but look at what else you can get for the same or less money that will still make you smile.

To add my tuppence worth (and that's about all I've got to spend on a new car..so this is dreamland for me!!), there was a P1 being auctioned on QXL last night, with, if I remember correctly, 9K on and private plate (SCO1O8V or something similar, ex 'W'plate - own up...you know who you are!!?). Could be 'bought' (hence ending the auction) for £23.5K - got 3 bids I think, highest was ~£17K...
I was almost tempted....

Aaron Bird - perhaps you can qualify your statement. What kind of cars can you get for that kind of money and give you supercar performance ? As for the looks of the car, I think it looks far better than the 'startled rabbit' look of the new WRX and a few others. Its all subjective at the end of the day and its all about opinions too. I receive my P1 in December when I get back from holiday, can't wait, be a great Xmas present to myself.
Ash I hope it is all you dream off.
For the same money you could buy a used Audi S4 or come to think of it a new one???
I even think that an Evo has better paint for the same money.
Looks.....yeah I like it even now but I get as many looks in my Beemer and its far more understated than a P1.
More looks from the ladeeezzz.
I`m not against the car it simply aint worth the money. Buy an import STI 7 instead I would now as the so called propper job has lost just the same ammount of money as an import would.

Ahh, I see what you mean, "its the car, chicks love the car". Hmmm, had this debate on numerous occasions with friends about pulling birds with cars. Its a false economy to think you will pull a bird with a car. I thought seriously about moving to a Merc C320 with every conceivable extra or even a 330 Sport. But decided I was still too young to move into that market. Maybe in a few years I will buy a "sensible" motor.
Just thought I'd say that I'm off to India for 5 weeks holiday now. Not before time, its getting cold here all of a sudden. Anyway, not going to be able to post any messages now for a wee while. On first day back I get the P1, looking forward to that already. I only hope that I can keep it in better nick than the McRae (scratched several times by envious w*nkers). Anyway, bye for now and will be back for xmas. Enjoy.
