Thats pretty sad......

As long as you have the right balance between having a giggle / taking the mickey and being informative you're ok.
For instance last night a thread runs in general from a guy saying his age, the car he drives and that he lives in a nice area ..... He asks SN for an insurance quote .....ffs how can that not be cause for a giggle.

You can usually see the seriously threads and the duffers cant you? if you cant then you've been working on your own for too long.

Edited to say ........please point me in the direction of a scoobs are crap thread I have posted on

In my opinion the forum is a good idea. In owning the scoob, now for 12 months, I have had various queries that I have asked about on here and you nearly always get a reply and help from other Scoob owners, which is probably what the forum was originally started for.

Also the 'was it you' is quite helpful as I would like to think if I ever had a problem then some of the scoobs in my area now know who I am and what Im driving and would hopefully help out.

You will always get the odd idiot hijacking a thread with the 'my cars faster than yours' b*ll*x, but you get that out on the road all the time with the car anyway, esp as a female in it, every dickhd in a 1(point).nothing hatch thinks you are fair game, so it stands to reason they would get on here to have a go.

Its not sad really, certainly would never swap it and go and work back in an office with the idiot workmates i've had in the past, not to mention office politics/corporate nonsense.

Its a personal choice to work alone, and i'm not saying its a negative thing. Dont get me wrong, I do get out a lot as well But during very busy weeks, I may be working 12 hours a day non stop, so dont have time to go out, visit mates etc - in that situation, forums give me a good break from work for 5 minutes - they aren;t my life though

I certainly understand that forums need a good balance, and shouldn't be too serious, but this place has been so diluted it doesnt matter what section you post in, your topic will be hammered by the know-alls, the trolls, the wind up merchants, the "my **** is bigger than yours" crowd.

Back in 2001 I was having a few employment troubles, and got some very good assistance from Scoobynet - I would be scared to post such help requests these days for fear of being flamed to death.

It just seems that every thread turns into a bitter argument on SN these days, the sillyness has taken over from the banter - we have the muppets forum for stuff like that

As for scoobs are crap, you've never expressly posted it, but all your posts this past 12 months, with your partner in crime davyboy, have had one target in mind, to wind people up.

And that is what the majority of SN is about these days, who can be the biggest "wind up hero"

Sorry if you dont agree, but thats how I see it now, and i've been here long enough to see the change in the community.

What happened to comoradorie between users, helpful posts and generally having a laugh? As for the insurance post you mention, my own personal reply would have been to offer help from past experience and maybe mention that contacting an insurance company would be a good thing to do. I assume, the actual SN response was that the user in question was hammered for posting such a normal question

Actually I sent him to the insurance section and advised him to contact his broker. He couldn't be bothered to do that so I told him an extra £4 a month should about cover it .......

I make no bones about the fact I wouldn't buy another scoob. Doesn't mean I dont like them, just that its not the car for me......Much like an Mi16

As for Davyboy, he has his own voice and I cant speak for him.

Scoobynet still is a community, its by far the fastest moving forum of its kind that I know about, its the reason so many of us spend so much time here.

I guess if people cant tell the difference between when im having a laugh and when im serious then TOUGH

Reading the first posts was quite a happy and uplifting feeling, generally people thought Snet was a happy forum and enjoyed partaking. However the latter few posts are a little depressing as the posters feel Snet has lost it's way a little. In fairness some people do take things to heart a little readily and the end result is a public slanging match. Maybe this is a reflection of society as a whole....

Well im a newbie and i love the site, the ppl on here are nice and friendly and can have a good laugh, they also go out of there way to help everyone with there problems from newbies to ones that have been on from the start. There is loads and loads read about and topics that cover almost everything, surely thats the whole point of a forum, and yeah some people spit the dummy quite easy but thats forums for you and people are bound to clash,
But i would definatly give the forum a thumbs up
And would personally like to thank the forum owners and mods for the great forum they have

There's been a ***** element for scoobynet for a long time. It was however contained in CWE and NSR, but it has since spread. And with the loss of CWE dragging NSR into a deeper pool of pedantics. It's somthing tyou learn to ignore and put up with.

Just pick and choose who's posts to read or not.

Listen to me sonny Just because you are a sad 30-40 something who has nothing better to do than spend 8 hours a day on the internet it is YOU who should respect your elders. I am 70 in September and proud as well. I have been coming on this BBS since 2002.

I think it still as enjoyable as the day it was conceived. Apart from a few turds

From a newbies point of view, I use the internet a lot, and use lots of forums (spend far to much time at work... like now) and i think this is one of the poorer forums.

You get the odd person who likes to criticise a post on every forum, but this forum seems to have to many, hence why i never really post, just read! Dont get me wrong, there are more helpul people on here than the other kind.

Apart from that, i think its useful for finding out stuff, technical etc, but never really bother posting!

Just noticed this thread.
My input:

Snet is great.
You can pick and choose what you read and contribute to.
There ARE some very knowledgeable people on here, and there is a great deal to learn from many.
There are different types of people on here with a different agenda, but it is a public space like a Pub is!

This forum rewards those who give as well as take, and you do have the choice to stay or go!

I have been on here for 3 years so a junior to PSLewis, and I'm an old guy,(54) and have one of the biggest threads on here running alongside several others.

I'm very pleased with Snet and say thanks to all who visit/support it.

Graham.

Same here. The other forum I use has a FAR greater community spirit, everybody tries to help each other and everyone respects that people are entitled to their own taste / opinion, with most criticisms intended strictly in a constructive manner ... and there is also plenty of friendly banter too.

If the people who are being criticised in this thread take note (and do something about it) it could help improve this forum no end, as the few posts on Scobynet that are constructive show there is potential... Unfortunately this is unlikely to happen.

Now I expect there'll be the inevitable 'well p**s off back to that forum' type posts... which is largely indicative of the state of Scoobynet now.

Great shame really.

Open your eyes!

I have a projects thread that has 95,000+ visits and 1400 entries over the last 18 months when i opened it.

It has NO arguments
NO bitter fights
It HAS technical merrit
HAS informative exchanges/help/offers of help etc

It is NOT unique.

You simply cannot tar the Snet with one big brush.
If you go looking you will find silly squabbles, ill informed opinions, petty comments, biggots etc.

bit like being at work....

Put a posative into the Snet and you will probably get that out too!

Snet is not a way of life, just part of life (that anyone can choose to take or leave).

Graham

Good point very eloquently made Graham. I think as long as we have you elder statesmen among our midst we shouldn't go far wrong. Give and take, a very sensible philosophy to have. If I may pose another question within this thread. has anyone been so riled by things said on snet that they have vowed to never return, but on reflection have done so?

You chose your car (forrester i take it) your choice, not forced. I could easily turn round and say that you weren't allowed an impreza so had to have the farmers choice, but the forrester is a great car. So don't appear out of nowhere and slate scoobys, you had your choice and blew it. And i bet any money given the choice you'd give up that tractor and jump in a scoob now, but your not allowed. Yes i have had scoobns plenty and one of the raris't made. Anyone who knows me on here knows i love my cars not just scoobs, but i don't slag cars because i can't have one. Oh my current one is an Alpina B32 Touring. And you don't sound like any self respecting car nut just a impreza wannabe nut

This SCNET has become a haven of scoob bashing trawlers. Who mostly seem to be of the FWD car scanario. But thats the way it is, they want a scoob, but aren't allowed, or can't afford or have nothing better to do once there weed hit takes them over. Just the sign of the times.

Scoobynet certainly was better back when i first joined... far more a enthusiast site. Less ***** for sure!

The demise of the Scottish forum was particularly disappointing.

On the other hand, if its specific knowledge you are looking for Scoobynet is
still number one. Just steer clear of General, Muppets (and Pslewis's posts )

Like everything, Scoobynet i evolving

scoobynet is the best.the variation of users says a lot for its popularity.whether they are taking the mick or being serious, there has to be room for all or it will shrink, being used by a few anoracks.!!!
