Im sure others said it about me when I first joined up (probably still do!) but I do wish the search function was utilised a bit more by new members, Im sure they want an answer specific to their car but the archive is full of information/knowledge imparted down and often the answer lies therein.

Finally it has become a far more commercial site, all this google adding for STD's, sponsor this forum, sponsor that forum which is fine, but it means that the site has so many more members a lot of whom have no interest in the impreza, it was frustrating for me back in 2003 or so when I asked what they were doing here but since then my "scooby-blinkers" have been taken off and I understand now that the whole world doesnt think my car is the greatest thing since sliced white loaves or have an in built desire to envy me for having it

OI less of the old lol

Its not gone to the dogs at all.

When it was setup the Impreza was an enthusiasts car, and the forum built up a strong presence. Now the Impreza (classic at least) has become a chav car, so of course you get some new owners on here who think its the max power forum, and dont get on with the enthusiast members (who have probably moved on from scoobs, but still use the forum)

Eg I joined when I thought about maybe buying a scoob. Now theres no way I'd want one (and never did buy one), but scoobynet is still one of the best car enthusiast forums - for owners of any sporty car.

Sometimes it takes something or someone to remind you that it isn't real life ... Thats what I like about this place, it can get quite serious and then someone comes out with something comical.

Plus its better than working for a living .......

Yes respect has to be earnt, although sometimes you are your own worst enemy Pete! I think as time has progressed and the internet has been made accessible to more people (myself included) the cross section of Scoobynet has massively diversified. Add to that the popularity of the Impreza (cough) and the many different sections within Snet and it is easy to see why it is so popular. It has almost become a sub culture, with it's many different characters. The one thing that has struck me is the general camaraderie amongst people and that is my overriding experience with Snet.

ScoobyNet has certainly changed over the years.

The site has become more diverse, but this has taken place because of the comments / requests by the community.

For better or for worse the community has evolved as much as the car marque itself has, but the underlining factor is that this community still has the same values that it used to have...... people should go along to the local area meets that are held as that is part of the reason why this community exists.... people with the same interest meeting other people and discussing that very same thing that most of us all love.... the Scoob. Whether this is done in person, or on-line the end result is the same.

Of course, when a site gets bigger and more popular you can get adverse effects.... but these are normally a minority.

Personally, I am very proud of being part of what ScoobyNet has become and with new things happening all the time (take ScoobyNet Live) we hope to move from strength to strength.

You can never please everyone all the of time, but I do think that above all, ScoobyNet is a good and fun place to be.

Regards,
Shaun.

Well your doing something right

as has been said by lots of people you can't please everybody all the time

and if you try you will only fail upsetting even more people

So yes posts like this can remind people that there is a life outside Scoobynet but to those of use that use it regularly its like a friend sometimes we enjoy each others company sometimes we don't but in the end its always there if we want it

Very true; I only wish someone would explain that concept to the unprincipled fence-sitter that is our Prime Minister...

I've been reading the forums for just over a year and have found them very informative, and often very funny. I can't understand why people get so up tight about the windups/trolls - anyone with experience of good ol' usenet (like myself) should be completely immune!

The one bizarre thing IMO is the disproportionate number of members who don't own a Scooby. Posting on the NSR forums is fair enough but why bother even reading, let alone posting pointless comments on, the Subaru-specific ones?! Seems a bit sad to me...

I enjoy the non scooby chat. There are some members with their heads screwed on and a lot of grey matter.

This site is great together with Briskoda. It's things like the mini site that make me cringe

I used to really enjoy the site, but now I find it childish. It seems that a lot of people that come on here are so far up their own @rses, that no matter what anyone posts, they believe their knowledge is far superior, and whoa betide anyone that disagrees. There's more and more 'my cars better than your car' types now than there ever was, and the fun has gone out of the site for me. I log in every now and again, in the hope that things may have improved, but am usually sadly let down.

I love my car, and some of the people I have met through owning it, have been lovely, however the d***heads mar the enjoyment of it. I have stopped attending meets now and probably wont go to any in the future. Whatever happened to the camaraderie of fellow scoob owners? Disappeared up their own Magnex am sure

Gone to the dogs as you can tell by this thread. What turned to to be a serious question turns into a completely off topic lark around. Its what this place has turned into,a load of keyboard comedians looking for a cheap dig or a laugh at someones expense.I much prefer the other breakaway subaru forums now where issues can be disussed without all this DRIVEL

Just my opinion

Its lost its old community spirit.

Back in the day it was a real "family/community" atmosphere. You could come on and have a genuinely good time and good banter with all involved, there was no real fall outs, no flamers, no trolls (except psl ), no stirrers, no wind up merchants.

Times were good, you could discuss cars, Scoobs, and general positive/nagatives of life without being jumped on.

The forum was aimed more at the Subaru marque, with much better tech info, and we seemed to have lots more meets, trackdays and drives out back in 2000/2001, and everyone knew and repsected each other.

Theres still good times to be had, but it gets a bit depressing, all the slagging off, the stirrers/wind up merchants doing their best to get everyones back up, "Scoobs are crap", and the other related dross.

Victim of its own success though, and I suppose a natural part of change. I still enjoy my time here, but dont come on as much, and we certainly dont have the community spirit we once had, and I doubt we will again

Gary, it may not be real life to you and some of the others, but you have to remember, just because it isnt face to face you are still dealing with real people, and real emotions when using a BBS.

Posting wind up threads, and "scoobs are crap" all day long does nothing for the community. You see it as fun and not "real life", some of us see it differently and after a while it grates.

It may be a game to you, but i've made good friends on Scoobynet and had some great times - just because its not face to face, doesnt mean its a joke

Look at the 205 forum - thats not real life either, but we all get on so much better than people here on Snet.

Forums are important to me. I work on my own, so can go a week without actually speaking to anyone if i'm busy - forums add a certain social aspect to my working day which helps a lot.

It should be a nice little earner for the guy who invented it for sure ...... I wouldnt like to guess how many members there are on here. If there were 10,000 and he charged £4 a year I would gladly pay as would probably half the 10,000 others I should think.

This place becomes a way of life for alot of people and is the second place I visit when I turn my confuser on ...... My own forum is obviously the first.

Gary
