I have an MY06 but didnt buy from Subaru (I went the Euro import route) the reason was Subaru Uk are simply taking the p!ss on the price - there is no way anyone should be expected to part with 27K for a std STI on the road.

Theres nothing wrong with the new car, infact I personally feel it is an improvement over the old STI (flame suit on!) - the looks are much better and the HID as std are awsome.

Come on subaru lighten up on the price and it will sell.

Having said that I want to sell mine for a Porker or S4 but thats not because theres anything wrong with the car.

I tried to buy an 06 WRX from a dealer but they could not/would not move on the price.

I gave them all the options and they could not get near the Motorpoint price (who by the way import the car for £14.5k inc VAT!!!).

Guess where I bought my car from and saved ££££s

Subaru Uk are trying to have stable Price level's in New sales, secondhand market and still maintain their % of Market share. Fighting of the growth in the Grey & EU Import's over the last few years has made a big impact.

Have just collected our MY 05 STI from a dealer unregistered for the same as we could have bought a euro job from any number of suppliers for. But it wouldnt have tracker or alarm and I didnt want the hassle of arguing with dealers for decent service, servicing and warranty. Also I reckon the resale will be better with a genuine UK car.

I do not think lowering the price will affect used prices. when the mini first came out they cost £10,300 and they depreciate like porches!!

At the end of the day it is your money not mine!
If i had the choice to either bur a wrx at a main dealer for £21000+ or a supermarket for £14999 i would already be waiting outside of the car supermarket with my tent !!

£6000 difference would not be a major deal if you wanted to jump the queue for a ferrari F430 but we are taking about a sub £21000 car here.

Who are these suppliers with euro job MY 05 STI s ?? All the suppliers seem to be selling MY 06 STI s now. Looks like you've been stung by a stealer on a MY 05 STi when you could have had a euro job MY 06 for the same price !!

Yep I think so aswell I have had mone lowered (T20 adjustable) and with the lip spoiler looks even better IMHO.

I just bought 1,,, I must agree the standard 06 sti looks ODD ,,, but when lowered with 19" rims and a moded from lip spoiler it transforms the cars look to one of beauty,,, then tuned for better performance makes a great motor.

Just pisses me off it takes another 4k make it a nice car, when them little nips could have done it to start with

How could anybody say the Litchfield type 25 is not beautiful? Will you lads be driving your classics when they look as old as a morgan lol

The only "chav" ones are the cheapo's ... if you look at the STi's circa £20k & above I'll bet that they're mostly standard & if they've had some mods they'll be pretty subtle. Any cheap car that can be bought by youngsters ie the early classics, will always be in danger of being corrupted.

Its an interesting thread that (from memory) has come up every time there's a new model year out. My first Scoob was one of the earliest MY05 WRX (red brake calipers and smaller steering wheel...) and I paid £17,500 for it via LloydsTSB who bought it direct from IM. My local dealer in Glasgow told me that he'd lose money on the deal at that price and the very best I could get him to was just a whisker under £19k. That was still almost £3k more than MP two miles along the road wanted.

I kept (and loved) the car but had to sell it in Jan this year when the Mrs got Keith Cheggars (for the third time!) and from memory think I got £13,500 for it. I pootled about in a Micra for 9 months and once we'd sorted out our cash I bought MY01 bugeye-wagon. Lost £500 on the Micra and paid £8k for the WRX at an approved Scoob dealer (in a local village - not the 'shiny' city centre, ie. EXPENSIVE dealership). It had 45k on the clock and before the deal the garage reconditioned a couple of kerbed alloys, mot'd, serviced (including the 50k cam-belt change), tweaked the wheel alignment, put two new Bridgestones on and swapped my b/box for me.

Ok, the steering wheel is Routemaster sized (but I'll be needing one of them if we have any more kids anyway!) but to me it seems more solid inside, the speakers are better and it's only marginally slower than the MY05 I had before. For less than half what I paid! Its got two ISOFIX points for my boys seats, room for a shed load of Ikea flat packery and with a WR Sport b/box it sounds just right. It might be within striking distance for chavs, but the price is also affordable for 'hard-working families' too!!!

It might not be as fast as the current crop of h/hatches but it sounds better, feels completely planted and puts a grin on my face every time I start it up.

Mr Money in the Telegraph this weekend said...

"Three things I've learned in a career that spans five decades: a car is only as good as its price; a car that's ideal for a certain user becomes hopelessly inappropriate if not priced sensibly; a list price attracts or repels a prospective buyer more dramatically than anything else."

IM should take note!

Bought my first Impreza 3 months ago. Never had a jap car before so did a ****load of research on what I wanted and funnily enough, boiled it down to a Newage STi or an Evo 8. Went and looked at both. STI won, I bought it. I absolutely love it.

Like previous comments on here, buy the car you like and enjoy. Bugger anyone else's opinion, its my car. I've had them all, ***** extension, wannabe racer, midlfe crisis (interesting one that, I'm 28).

I like the 06STI's looks, been doing some looking around for pics of the 07 and 08 cars and I must confess, I don't like them. As it stands at the moment, the 06 would be the latest I'd buy, then I'd have to start researching. I'd never buy a new car, they are too much money. My 03 cost me peanuts and its been the best car I've ever owned (IMO). Engine noise, handling and I love the in your face looks. I don't care if little buggers and chavs give me the thumbs up, everyone is allowed an opinion.

I did consider a classic, but after driving one, it felt old and dated and I prefer the newage shape.
