London , which is full of traffic and crap drivers - you hardly ever see any traffic cops . .The only brush your car will ever have with the law is a) Don't pay a paking fine b) Don't pay congestion charge . . .The the Police and various other law enforcement agencies will hound you till the end of the Earth . .

Essex . .However . .Sparcely populated . .People pleasant . .Not much traffic - but spreed trap coppers galore . . .Don't quote me on this, but is this perhaps because there is no crime??
I think the biggest danger on the road these days is poor driving rather than speed, but less police on patrol means this is not picked up on.

The driving standards on the roads seems to have plummeted recently

London does have traffic cops ..... 500+ of them .... but, apparently we are so efficient they felt they could reduce the number of motorcycles considerably as we don't need them any more - our garage going from 19 to 12 bikes and the Met getting rid of something like 50 in total.

This, of course, has nothing to do with the fact they were told to save £250,000 ...... no, we are more efficient --

Even if it was a suggested limit, you can still be prosecuted for ignoring the direction of a warning sign

Well here the traffic cops seem to be more respectfull. Especially on the motorways (south yorkshire). Ive been given the "down it" hand signal many times from them comming the other way. Ive been pulled once doing 45 in a 30 zone whilst having a *** and letting the car drive and the boy in blue told me maybe i should try driving in third gear. I was on a motor way when an car started pushing my *** i got to 90 before i pulled over...Again i was smoking and mellow. when i pulled over the lights in the grill flashed me. We went to the hard shoulder and had a chat. "you realise you were doing 90 miles an hour" "yes but you were too" "laffs,,,,,Nice car be carefull" "I always am" "well dont let me have to drag you out of a wreck" "you wont" "wear your seatbelt" "I always do" "Are you stoned?" "A bit" "well i guess your not looking for a race then" "No just overtaking the sheep" "dont get clever with me now **** off and get off at the next junction and get off my ****ing tarmack" "If i see you again im gonna do you for driving under the influence of drugs"
Needless to say i took a little break at the next junction!

That's your problem. Had you not sped up but risked braking hard or whatever was required, it would have been subjective and open to opinion - the traffic cop would have perhaps nodded and called you an idiot, but left it at that. However, as you did do something wrong (ie speed) there was no doubt and you are an easy nick. I would always hope a traffic cop would be able to see the judgement call you made but some it would seem do not.

It's like I have always wondered what an unmarked car would do if....

I'm sitting in the inside lane as tw*ts in the middle lane really annoy me. It;s a clear day, little traffic, and I come across someone sitting in the middle lane. Most times I will not pull out to the outside lane to overtake, then come back in again, but stay on the inside lane and undertake. So, who is wrong? I know I am, but to the same extent, the person in the middle lane was there before me, thus was actually in the wrong well before I was, secondly it could be said to be more dangerous by pulling across two lanes, then pulling back in across two lanes, and finally, the Highway Code advises you should stay in the lane that is running faster (to avoid changing lanes for that very reason).

Wonder what a cop would do if he saw that and if no speeding was involved?

Mate . . I hear what you're saying and agree with you entirely . . .That's just the beauty of driving - we need to excersize our judgement to be effective drivers . .Distance , visibility, road surface weather . . . Its actually pleasant just to drive smoothly and not aggressively . . But in this case, it is futile arguing . . What I noticed was that the copper was very keen to build up an argument of cr*p driving based purely around speed . . His arguments seemed to pivot around the highway code . . . ASide from speed , my driving was based on my training - create space for yourself and others, don't get involved with others and improve your visibility . .Try explain it to the copper!

However if he refused to show me the video ( in which might I add, I looked very good), I would not hesitate in going to court and questioning his judgement!

Regards

Do you own a Subaru

It's the shame of being pulled by a lesser car!! Now being pulled by a ferrari thats more like it...... and hearing those famous words "I had to get you in the straight's as I would have had no chance in the twisties...."
I don't seem to get stopped for overtaking and 'maybe' going over the speed limit as my remote garage door opener seems to help me for some reason... Had to get it after seeing the police set up mobile speed traps on the toll road.

The Skoda bit is significant, because . . . Look out for one! Don't and see what happens . .
