The street might not belong to them but its more principal than anything, but there are laws and regulations that state where and how you can park in relation to access of someones property.

Its also a very posh residential area which is not on the way to anywhere else (other than another posh area), so hard to believe it’s a local chav.

irony?

Why? You judge each case on its merits. If someone is not blocking your drive, parking considerately, not causing a nuisance, then there is a clear distinction between that person and one who causes an obstruction. You don't own the pavement/road outside your house, if there are not parking restrictions then it is perfectly legitimate to park there.

If a person has a legitimate objection to you parking considerately outside their house (can't think of one at present) then why not do the civil thing and have a friendly word in person?

We have an old duffer who lives near my daughters school who kicks off if you park in 'his space' (why on earth did he buy a house 3 doors from a School!!!!) one day he got his son to box me in with a Volvo parked illegally across his neighbours drive with its **** in the middle of the street, fortunatly I was in the wifes first car (4 door Nova - cheap as chips to insure with 0 NCB) so gave him a warning to move the illegaly parked car or I would move it for him, he decided to carry on with the lecture until I reversed HARD back into the Ovlov's bumper, it then moved out my way sharpish, he tried it on with lost of others but never with me again!

He gave the council **** until they painted a white box on the road - legally meaningless as I have pointed out to him when he has been harrasing others!

I live in what would be described as a nice quiet street, if someone was leaving their car outside my house and pissing off to the station I wouldn't be happy! I'd have a word, if that was greeted with hostility I have to say I wouldn't damage their car, I'd just get my mate to move it to the station carpark on his low loader and the c*nt can get a parking fine..

If everyone else has to pay to park then why the hell shouldn't he?? What makes him so much better than the rest of the people?? You cant have the best of both worlds I'm afraid.

I still think the best option is to approach someone on the street who has a driveway that is empty during the day and arrange something with them.

You cant just move somebodys car. If someone had illegally and for no reason other than they didnt want my car parked where it was moved it i would be livid and a situation would soon escalate!!! Ultimatly uou would end up with an appending court case as i'd say that so and so damage was done to the car and report you for theft, who the hell gives you the right to do what you want with other peoples cars?

As for why he shouldn't pay, why must he pay becasue other people choose to, as has been said nothing illegal is going on and he's using his brain to £20 a week, thats half a tank of fuel

you can be pissed of all you want, the fact is the person could park there if they want. he has every right to park on a public road and walk to the station, why should he pay if he's willing to walk?

ive had issues with some old man aswell where i park when i go to work, my work has no parking anywhere so i have to park in a public street and i had a compaint because i parked near a house and the family have young children? apperently its my problem that there were no spaces left for them? my opinion was that its theyre problem for buying a house with no drive! i wouldnt deliberatly make it awkward for somebody but its not my problem if they dont have a private space.....

anyway now i pay a grand £1.20 a day to park slightly nearer my work, but its more because my car doesnt get as dirty there with sap an bird**** off trees ect...

Exactly! I live on a quiet road with a lovely field in front of the house, if was a right old git, I could claim that they were spoiling my view and the tranquility of the neighbourhood etc... but if they don't cause a nuisance, park responsibily and don't obstruct the access to the house that we had to pay an extortionate fee to the council for, then there is no problem. Of course, if someone were to approach me and politely state a good reason as to why I should not park legally ouside their house then I would be happy to oblige. But, that would be my perrogative as a decent and understanding person who would not like to cause inconvenience. It would not change the fact that, legally, I'd be perfectly entitled to ignore their request.

I'm afraid when it comes to this issue, most people do not have a leg to stand on and very little, if any, basis for complaint.

If he is parking outside a legal distance from the access to a property etc then yes there is nothing illegal, it is just the principal! These people have paid the premium for their property to live on a quiet street and they certainly dont want it to turn into a carpark! For all you know someone may have visitors who parks where he parks and thats whats pissing them off?? All he see's is an empty space in the morning.

Now that is a bit of a pathetic statement!

If you are parking on a busy street and actually preventing someone with young children from parking outside their own home then you truely are a c*nt.

Catch them doing it with photo evidence and then tell the coppers.

oh and the papers too - last thing any pretend posh git wants is to appear in the "Court In Short" section of the local paper.

What principal? That these people have paid a premium for a property near the station? If they don't want people parking there, they should get the council to double-yellow the road. Vandalising a perfectly legally parked car is completely wrong.

The problem is if someone is willing to take those kind of actions against the car its obviously a common problem so no doubt they will be kicking up a stink to the council and they WILL eventually paint yellow lines and then everyone is screwed.

Yes, common misconception that you "buy into an an area" or anything like peace and quiet, even if the house price does reflect such facors, you're not assurred of such things and will not be compensated if they change. You buy the house and the land within its boundaries, that's it! you do so with due diligence about its situation with respect to local amenities etc.. If you buy a property near a station, don't complain about the parking, if you buy a property near an airport, don't complain about the noise, if you buy a property with no drive when you have two kids, you're daft!!

Ns04

PS if you complain to the council about people parking legally outside your house, my money is on you politely being told to sod off!! Unless you're someone very imp and if you're on here, you probably aren't!!

I agree with the "airport" comment but the other two are stupid.. Local residents can have double yellows painted and apply for the area to be covered by council parking permits if they so wish so that can solve that problem..

BUT your comment about having kids and not buying a house with a drive way is completely ridiculous, how many young parents with two kids do you know of that can just simply say, ahh ok lets go and buy a house with a driveway. Grow up.

No - its in Herts.

Plenty of lively debate here. Can't say I agree with those who think that it is somehow OK for people to have a go just because I park legally and considerately in their road. If anyone does has a specific issue with my car, then I'd be happy to discuss it amicably.

I have no choice but to drive to the station as public transport is just not good enough. £20 is not a huge amount on a weekly basis, but when you think its £80 per month and 50% of my rail fare then its a lot and I resent the fact that I seemingly now have no choice but to pay it.

BTW the "friendly notice" told me to not park on the corner (which I wasn't). Hence moving the car well down the road.

but again its not my problem is it? its a free and legal place to park. the fact they have children is something they have to deal with if it causes them an inconvenience. like i said i wouldnt deliberatly make it hard for somebody but on that particular occasion i had very little choice but to park there.
an my problem was the fact that the guy instantly came over with a angry attitude instead of being polite

Another vote for buying a shed and parking it there every day. If they are that bothered they no doubt live REALLY close to where you park. Make a point of sounding your horn and arriving with some gangsta rap playing at top volume EVERY single time you arrive.
Look at this way they now owe you best part of a grand for the damage and it's time to start collecting.
For added annoyance factor produce a leaflet explaining what's happened and your intention to park your legal and taxed car there every day ad infinitum and distribute it locally. Also invite whoever did it to further damage your vehicle with the advice that it now features covert video surveillance and it's a piece of crap in any case.
If nothing else it should wind them up a treat. It would be the least I'd do.

Make 'em pay, seriously these people need a reality check, the a55holes are lucky you don't arrive with your posse and hang around all day selling crack to their children and ******** their teenage daughters.
Pay road tax=park anywhere legal.
