Wait for the new model to hit the streets and then watch the Dealers holding P1's weep as the value falls. Old models are always worth less even if there are some issue about the new cars looks. Our current models will look VERY dated VERY quickly. I think best advice is forget the P1, wait a few months to see what the new one is like and then make a choice. Also, anyone who buys in the UK (as I did 2 years ago) needs their head tested. Denmark of Holland for me next time

It would appear like the clever money would be on waiting for the bargain I was on about .. you will see plenty of un-sold P1's going for sensible money ( the P1 is a great car but far too expensive )

Given £31,000 I would jump into the EVO6 and I am a Subaru Impreza man through and through!! - just way better value for money.

Wait my dear boy Wait!! P1 = £20,000 ex-demo

Dave 25,

What a timely post. I too have an 00 turbo and am looking at a P1.

With the state of the car market, specialist nature of the P1, forthcoming new model and ever blooming insurance costs I think people are right in believing that the prices will fall.

This seems to have been the case with new STI6s I have seen advertised more recently, which seemingly have dropped around £5k.

I don't think they will hit £20k but I would move at £25k ish.

Only trouble is convincing the wife, as the only benefit she sees is the rear wash wipe!

Ed

Note - on the insurance side the best quote I could get was £2500. Stupid for a car but not unreasonable given the hobby / interest factor.

Only thing about the P1 is the price. Main reason for it not selling was this and the timing. I'd have had one if the rear seats folded down for my fishing gear.

Price will continue to drop but I'm not intending to sell my MY00 for years so I'm not bothered. Whatever you decide to buy you should get a good deal as prices really are coming down.P1 will take a bit longer to come down especially if MY01 is
ill recieved and pushes people back to the older models

Ther's a fair bit of truth to be found in the above posts (apart from Pete's obsession with a £20K P1).

To be honest one of the reasons I cancelled my order for a MY01 was the apparent lack of the bucket seats which we have all become used to ( how did pre MY97 drivers ever stay in their seat when cornering? especially when they have a fat **** like me!).

There's little doubt that the new car will be successful....in time. Even Subaru admit that it's aimed a slightly different market. I just think that there are too many issues outstanding to make it worth getting one for the next six months.

Like everything though(model/mods/handling/performance etc) it's subjective. As I tend to say to people asking what I think of their cameras, at the end of the day if it does what you want and you're happy with it, does it realy matter what anyoneelse thinks.

Good hunting Dave.

Went to my dealer today and here's the story.....

They have a P1 in the showroom and one out the back ready for a customer. The P1 in the showroom hasn't been registered yet, will be in the next 6 weeks or so. It's a cancelled order....

Asked what I could get trade in for mine and how much it was. Sales guy put the P1 down on the quote at £31,495 and my car at £18,250 - I paid £23,050 for it from them in March. Leaves difference of £13,245. Hmmmm, so much about desperate to get rid of them / do a good deal.

Anyway, had a run in a PPP'd Impreza with 17" Prodrive 7's and a suspension pack of some sort. Car had 19k on the clock. Certainly a lot of difference between mine and this one - improved torque all through the range, pulls really well. Exhaust makes a nice sound but not a lot of difference when you get up to 50+

The car was well run-in though and I've noticed mine just getting better and better so maybe not a pure comparison.

The P1 looked really nice. Great colour, smart interior and the whole thing looks well finished. Wheels look like they'll hide the brake dust better than mine do! Plus - the rear wash wipe!

So, overall, if I trade in I lose £4800 since March, plus the P1 is at full price. Asked about how many are left from the run of 1,000 and when last orders are but they have no idea.

Am going to have to do some thinking... is a lot more money. Thanks to all for your views.
