What original factors?
The ones I listed, I listed the factors that were considered when buying the car, that's what the list was.

The kias a sad excuse for what a SUV is all about and the audi didnt lose anything as you compare a car made in 1998 and only stated data that was favourably to the crappy kia.
Well you posted the new Audi data up and on the factors that we considered, the Audi still lost.

You were just trying to be clever.
I was making the point that just because an Audi suits some people's reqirements doesn't mean it ticks the right boxes for everybody, indeed it ticked non of the required boxes in our case. It just hi-lights the fact that the people that are getting on their high horses about cars being "better" mean that a car is better for THEM, but not for everybody else. In our case, the Audi wouldn't cut it.

Also with the Kia you get crappy interior, crappy performance, crappy exterior, crappy ride, and a crappy image.

So let me update the figures.

Audi SUV X5
CO2 190 194 229
Max Tow (UB) 750Kg 750Kg n/a
Max Tow (br) 1900Kg 1600Kg 2300kg
Luggage Space 565/1660l 667/1887l 465/1550
Front headroom (mm) 992 920 951
# of seats 7 5 5
Rear headroom (mm) 978 910 934
Urban 28.5 26.6 24.8
X Urba 51.4 41.5 40.4
Combined 39.8 34.4 32.8
Insurance Grp 16 10 17
Servicing over 3 yrs 958 970 1,331
Max power 178/4250 140/6000 218/4000
Max torque 280/1400 136/4500 369/2000
0-60 mph (secs) 8.1 11.3 8.3
Max speed (mph) 140 108 130

Cost £28,625 £14,995 £35,310

So now try and justify an X5. Especially seeing as the X5 isnt that capable off road and the kia sporting is probably even worse. The audi however can go over all kinds of terrains much better than the X5 and anything the UK can throw at you. The really amusing thing is that english people who live in the country side think they need a SUV to go off road yet how do all those poor countries manage with their 20 year old toyota corollas climbing mountains etc.

An X5 cant do this nor can a Range Rover. A magaxine publication went back to this ski ramp with AWD impreza, bmw's and mercedes, and none of them managed to get even a quarter way up the ramp yet the audi went all the way.

Who cares about the figures mate. In my (and many others) opinions the allroad a) looks ****e b)the existing allroad is about as involving to drive as a tub of margarine and C) its not high enough.

The new one may be better in the driving stakes but I doubt it will be that good. And, to be fair, driving up a ski jump isn't high on our priority list

Unfortunately for people that think the X5 is stylish and classy the zeitgeist moved on about 2 years ago. Still out there in banalsville some people still think Burberry is 'exclusive' I suppose.
Rabid,

Not having a small ***** for which I require to compensate by ensuring that I am at the pinnacle of current image consciousness, I really couldn't give a flying **** about whether the "zeitgeist" has moved on or not.

Of course a truly content person will chose to buy what makes them happy without being concerned in the slightest as to whether or not someone who cares only about image, and likely has no substance to their character, thinks about their purchase.

As it's for your wife I'd have thought ***** size is irrelevant. In any case if you use phrases like "she knows it's cool", even the most independant commentator is going to assume the zeitgeist is of importance. However if you want to do a u-turn for the purposes of this thread I understand perfectly.
I'd agree though that the content don't give a toss what others surmise about their choice of vehicle which is why I find the backlash of X5 advocates so very, very amusing.

How many more times do you need to use the lamest forum cliches as a comeback? I guess the next will be 'schools out' or similar. All coming from some lamewad who calls himself 'scooby doo' on a Subaru website.........honestly you really couldn't make it up.

I was going to sell my X5 for the summer but to be honest how could I possibly get rid of a car that is such a hot topic of debate and brings out such deep emotions in people.

Typical X5 driver......only cares about the opinions of others, not the abilities of the car itself. Oh the joy of yet another hoist by his own petard.

Of course it's just a larf innit..........hahahahahahaha!

LOL

I typed "she knows it looks cool"

"cool" is very much a point of perception - and just that. Her perception, in this case, as you have in fact already and correctly pointed out.

And that is all that matters.

Her definition of "cool" is most likely very different to yours. Such is the way of the world, and long may it continue.

Fashion, of course, is the least "cool" thing on the planet. Why? Because only the insecure truly follow it, like little sheep, because they are unable or unwilling to make their own choices in life.

To suggest that because of the use of the word "cool" opinion is of relevance is laughable, for those very reasons. A truly independent commentator will have no thoughts either way - only one to whom such matters are of importance may draw that conclusion, in which case they are anything but an independent commentator.

This is a discussion forum, response is inevitable. You'll see no backlash from me because I don't personally give a second thought to what you think of me or my decisions in life.

It is quite entertaining, however, to address your assertions with an alternative point of view.

As I said some people think Burberry is cool, like reality TV programs and spend their leisure time eating in TGI Fridays.

Refreshing though to see someone who doesn't give a toss about what I or anyone else may think of you or your decisions in life. Someone with a true sense of self worth and perspective on scoobynet, a rare thing.

Lots of issues with this fella (as always). But basically he has hit the nail on the head with this statement. Men who think these kinds of vehicle are 'cool' have the mental age of three year olds. I'll remember that next time I see one.

And if you ever come across a WOMAN (Assuming Diablo's wife is female) you can ask if she thinks they're cool or if they're 3 .

Make sure you're out of range though

anyone see that prog - topten DIY design horrors over the years

these designers who think they know best, telling everyone how its a mistake to have dado rails, water beds, stencilling, floral patterns.....

They are 'out' of fashion today but when the room was designed last week, it was 'in' fashion so thats why they did it. Its the designers themselves who come up with this cr@p then slate it off "its so pre millenium...."

A person can have all the latest fashion, cars and gadgets and still not be cool.

Drug dealers like X5's.Your wife likes a drug dealers favourite auto.

LOL what do 3 year olds know about being cool. Also they will go for the truck because its of primary socialisation. Young boys are generally brought up to be strong and tough and macho. A mini cooper isnt macho. A truck is though.

If we're out for a day in the Forestry Commissions park, then by the time the kids bikes are in the boot, along with a picnic hamper and some odd's and sods's, its full. A saloon/estate doesnt cut it, for load space. It's a safe, practical vehicle, especially with kids. In environmental terms, its a 215 g/km car, does approx 30mpg. I bought it for 2 reasons.

1. Its a Honda, so reliable.
2. If we get t-boned, the kids will be, mostly, above the impact area.

Now, can someone please tell me why any of the reasons why i chose to buy this car, are environmentally unfriendly?

How many cars on the road, non-4x4's, dont average 30mpg?
Yeah what happens when your high 4x4 hits my golf with my kid in it? Thats my problem, no offence to you personally.

Most rapists cant afford audi's.

My problem with SUV's are as follows:

1.Theyre estate counterparts are better than them in every respect apart from ride height, so your just wasting fuel. Fuel which will run out in about 20 years. If no one drove a SUV and cars instead the fuel would last an extra 5 years.

2. They require more of everything. Twice as much rubber for their tyres for example. A waste.

3. They also hinder other drivers view of the road. Just imagine a great big SUV parked up next to you at a intersection. All you will see if metal right by your window. Its like how a man in a caterham must feel when parked up next to a mercedes E-class. Not nice.

4. Your SUV will take longer to break than their car equivelant. So when you come crashing into a single mothers VW golf you will most likely pulverise her but the SUV will probably be OK unless its a GM piece of ****e. Korean and chinese SUV's are less safe than a decent german car anyway.

A SUV which crashes into anything under 1400kg will most definelty cause serious injury to the other driver. But if they were both similiar sized cars then the damage would not be anywhere as great.

SUV drivers are selfish.

Why talk about fuel consumption on a BBS where the majority of owners cars are hardly renowned for their fuel efficiency .... where do you get this 20 years from ?

1. Wrong wrong and wrong again

2. Are you really that thick ? A waste !!so is almost every car in some way you muppet.

3. Ss what its the same for truck vans etc. Learn to drive and it won't be a problem for you.

4. Not really true though is it if I hit a small car at 10mph in the rear wing I probably won't kill the driver and that argument applies to any big car rollers bentley's etc.

You must be on a wind up as no one who uses a computer could be that thick.

No where near as bad as when a 7.5 tonner or arctic or fully laden van of roller etc hit it. If it bothers you that much buy a bigger car.

Your the thick one as you cant even come up with a articulate argument based upon facts.

You say that SUV's blocking your view isnt a problem if your a good driver yet the only plus point for the average SUV driver is the fact that they have a higher viweing position. Now you wouldnt need a higher viewing position if YOU were a good driver now would you.

Pratt

Do you drive your scooby fast from time to time? If the answer is yes then your car serves its purpose. SUV drivers dont use their cars which they were built to do.

I drove that Cayenne at 240kmh on an Autobahn and trust me, it couldnt have stopped in twice the distance of 90% of the cars on the road. To me it is disgusting that such a car have so much power and so little ability. ...And a very good friend of mine is a test driver for BMW and they spent weeks in Dijon last year trying to get brakes for the X5 that wouldnt disintegrate in an emergency stop from top speed (seems to be a flaw), if you have an early one, I would be asking about newer brakes!!

If you need a 4wd than why not get a decent "off road vehicle" such as a Land rover Discovery and if you need to carry stuff than why not get a white van? But I guess thats not "COOL" enough??

Oh and as for the "cant afford it line".... Thats exactly what I meant about having to try and impress people with how much money you have. I bought my STi cash and I could have bought a Cayenne or X5 cash as well but I chose the STi for a few reasons namely safety, ability, fun and the fact its a 4 door. I did not choose it to impress anyone except myself.. "What other people think of me is none of my business"
