All IMHO of course

Who cares about rallying. None of us would take a VXR rallying and hardly any people here take their scoobs rallying.

I'll post the official sport auto list. But many of them check out. On that full list I posted some of the cars feature more than once via video evidence etc and when we find another reliable time we just add it on.

Also it depends on the conditions at the time such as weather traffic etc.

It isn't actually faster than the STI on the ring.

OK so its just not possible that this car posted this lap time ...... as it would be toooo close to the STi and probably a good few seconds quicker than a WRX ......

As long as we have that straight its fine

So Gutmann would you buy an Astra VXR over an Impreza STi for a track car? Also which would you buy for a road car?

Yep, the sport auto list is the best of it's kind.

But yeah, so many factors to take in to account.

**** sakes fella.......Use your eyes!

Fair enough we're not all driving round spec "N's" but the breeding is still there
The impreza was out in to production because it had to be to enter the Rally's.....so as i've said they might not all be group N's but the breeding is still there. They were not built as track cars........if you wanna track car then buy one....

Yes I do own a subaru.....thats why i'm on SN
I'm not a plastic like some of you on here.....

Can i just say that the VXR was standard, the list is accurate. Also nothing new the VXR driven way before its launch did 8.35 round the ring. And to those who say that it is at its limits already, that it is not. A few people have got theirs running at 300bhp. Torque steer is overplayed, and i thought the comment that the Subaru was a rally car so would be slower on a track was laughable, since in the past many many people have said oh the VXR might be quicker but not in the twisties, well you can't have it both ways, Both cars were designed for the road.

Apologies, I was referring to the car it is in competition with - WRX.

As for the times, they seem accurate. I can ge round in 8:56 BTG in an old French ****box and I've only done 55 laps. A friend in a similar ****box did and 8:38.

I never said it be slower on the track, I said impreza's are in their element on a rally........so it's a road car.......it'll still be beaten A-B......

And how much are these mods to get it to 300bhp??

If a 306 GTi6 (standard engine, coilovers and stripped)) can do an 8:38 (with a driver that can do ALOT more) I'm sure a VXR can do an 8:30 driven by someone capable.

Eat your socks.

I wouldnt buy either of the heavy lumps of lard for a track car ....... If I was pushed I would try a VXR simply because ive tried a scoob. It ate brakes, it ate tyres, it ate fuel and it ate a couple of other parts which I would rather not discuss on here.....

As a road car I would certainly have a VXR over a WRX but then I would have a £350 shunter over both of them.......

Time seems a bit quick, considering it’s heavy, understeers and has pretty poor brakes. Oh that sounds like an Impreza !

But neither cars are rally cars.

But on a tarmac rally stage i'd expect the result to be the same.

Can we ignore rally stages and road driving please...........

I posted this thread to show a VXR doing its stuff on track. Much has been said about this car over the last couple of months as to its abilities or non abilities on the road......

I wanted to post a video of it on track showing just how good it was as a track day car and I think this video probably shows that?

The time if correct is pretty special for a front wheel drive car with that power.

I for one am impressed.

I think we all agree that it is a pucka time for a FWD Vauxhall, the problem is very few people would purchase this car for track use it is more likely going to be purchased by road users with an inkling to track time, which is best is dependent on their criteria for a car, both of the markets for which the STi and VXR sit are performance ones. with repect to track cars i am unaware of many track cars that have remained as they did when they left the factory! In that respect the Impreza is a better buy
