And i said it was an amazing time, your personal opinions of a critic are yours but to be fair i dont give a toss what his personality is like, I use his critique to compare cars as he has had a wide experience of all sorts and forms of cars giving him a sound base to be able to state what he finds, only clarified by that link i found and i presume many others alike.

Senior if you dont use first hard then thats great but others will do and when they do they will be in a hedge, where as i can use it hard in the scoob and keep it going where i want it to

If as std VXR can achieve a full lap in around 8.30 with 240bhp that is very very impressive IMHO. Thats very close to the EVO ring M3 which is stripped, has more RWD horsepower, very expensive brakes, suspension etc........

Said it before and I will say it again, fair play Vauxhall you have come a long long way

Have they come along way or just started to appeal to a performance minded market as opposed to the family/ economy market of previous years?

Vauxhall/GM have always been good motors, just dull and mass produced that's all. A functional car.

They've always had great cars though. Nova GTE, Cav/Calibra Turbo, Vectra GSI, Omega MV6, Astra GSI, VXR.

VPCC has a huge following.

But you're all forgetting the fact that it's a FWD car?!!?
Not even in the same league as an AWD like the impreza!

Impreza's were all about RALLYING not for tracks.....
You're comparing two cars that are about different things....
Put the Vaxhall on a rally stage and then try to compare them....

Fair enough wer're not all driving round spec "N's" but the breeding is still there....

On the track it's quick......on a rally it be a joke and on the road it be destroyed!!

PEACE

Maybe i was a bit ignorant then, but these new generations of VXR seem to be alot more geared to the performance market than their predecessors in respect to both the engine and styling departments, I think it's a good phase for them

But i wont be spending my cash on a Pauxhall

This is what i was saying they are both road cars dispite their lap times, hands down you'd go for the Impreza over the Vauxhall givern you could sustain the costs of ownership everytime there is just so much more potential in the impreza, where as the vauxhall i imagine is already on the verge of overload with its tourque steer etc leaving little to no room for modifying

However we're talking about road cars on a track........

The impreza has Rally breeding and the VXR has nova breeding.....
and the impreza still gets a better time?

Ok the VXR is a good display of Vauxhall "getting with the times" but it'll never be in the same league as an impreza.....

Compare a Civic type-r or a Golf gti with it....

Intrigued by the source of all these times - the 996 Carrera time seems way too slow - I believe there is a time much closer to 8.10.

The Exige also seems very slow.

All IMHO of course

No, it's not in the same league you're right.

It's 1 or 2 leagues above it now.

But if the 8.05 BTG is correct as per the video then the car would do an 8.30 (ish) the straight from Gantry to bridge is only as long as it is, even my clutter could do it in 35 seconds.........The VXR is therefore at worst a sub 8.35 car.

In that video it must have had racing tires then. Or maybe its because the track was empty. Thats how the Z06 corvette got such a fast time because in a way they cheated.

I reckon once it gets officially tested round the ring by that german mag it will post a time of about 8:40.

On a side note the porsche 997 Turbo just did a 7:42 lap round the ring.
