Car goes to Mocom on Wed for oil / filter change, had a quick chat and they're very particular with their method and as I lack the resources and time to do it my myself (I also want to talk to them about some other plans I have), thought it best to pay someone.
Also want to have the battery checked after what we talked about on the phone. Jumped it using a jump box and no problem... check voltage and went up to above 16v after giving it a run. Dropped to 11.2v three days later and then was totally dead again two days after that. Will ask Mocom when there if they can have a check.
Will also be asking them to fit the oil catchment tank coz i'm a lazy bugger
Re the plans above... will be asking their advice on the gearbox and getting some quotes.
The car then goes on the rollers on the Sunday so will be posting on Monday.
Still looking fantastic... lost count of the amount I've spent cleaning already! my first black car, and it looks awesome when clean but Jesus!! does it get dirty when it hasn't even moved!

Took the car to Mocom for oil change etc.. clutch is starting to slip quite a bit more (desp[ite me hardly getting to put my foot down) and Zak (the chap who runs Mocom) reckons that I would be best not to run on the rollers even on low boost. So I'm giving away my run so whoever wants it...
Good news is that Mocom are going to run the catch tank back to the sump via a braided hose and enlarge the ports on the tank you gave me to make it less restrictive.
The battery was leaking a little fluid, which was why isn't wasn't holding charge. Had this changed out for a slightly smaller one (so it clears the fmic piping better) and that is sorted. Bad thing about the fluid leak is that a little paint has been damaged under the bonnet and in the battery area so I'm booked in with ABW in Essex to have it rubbed back and painted. Pissed off doesn't get close to describing my feelings towards this leakage.....
Going to sort the clutch same time as gearbox and flywheel... talking to Zak, will prob be twin plate Exedy clutch, 1-2 straight cut, 3-4 helical cut PPG and source a new 5th gear. Change all the billet forks and a ligghtweight flywheel. All in all, gonna cost a pretty penny sp driving with kid gloves until Feb when the bonus come in.
Some piccies to tide to over
Taken after a clean, letting it dry before tucking her up to bed in the garage!
I remember you saying you only had camera phone pics of the car, so if you want me to post a cd of hi res pics let me know. Hope you're settled into the new house!

Was speaking to Andy on tuesday... he reckons with a quick tweak on the ecu, a advance on the timing and still @ 22psi will give another 30bhp, it was mapped safe... once you've had the box done... we can both pop down to you for another map tweak, as mentioned before the spec should see it nicely over 500bhp @ 30psi...
At least you know theres more to come...
Shame about the battery mate... it is still under warrenty mate if you wanna pop it back up here... lol...
I'd spray up under the bay with aerosol mate... its a mate black finish anyway...
Was looking forward to the rolling road figures... will be worth the wait...
You had the oil change done then???
Whens it in for catch tank fitment???

Zak asked if the inlet and exhaust valves were changed when the build was done. I guess they were as part of the Axis build but are you able to confirm? Apparently, to run sustained EGT's of 900degC you need stainless inlet valves and inconel exhaust valves, the standard sodium filled valves tend to fail at that point, and the higher temps are likely when winding the boost up.
Lol re popping up the Crewe for new batt.... just pissed me off with the liquid on the paint... at least it is under the bonnet but want to get it cleaned back properly... this sort of thing really winds me up .
Oil and filter done... no problems there... Oil catchment is going to be machined to have larger holes to prevent a build up of pressure. Also going to have a braided hose running the catch tank back to the sump so it won't need emptying.. If a job needs doing..!
Salsa King - Best ask Chris about build cost so far.. I believe he spent in the region of £10k on the engine.
I'm looking at £1200 for the Exedy Hyper twin plate clutch (includes flywheel), £2025 for the 1-4 PPG gears, billet forks at £565, a new slightly longer ratio fifth (to be duscussed and finalised), plus labour so looking at c. 5k.
Insurance is via Gary Moulson (aka Moley on here) at Keith Michaels for a touch under £900 with the mods declared. Gary is a top fella!

I think they weren't taking on any new owners of the 2 doors for some reason for a period.. Try them again if you'r enot already covered.
I also got a good quote from A-Plan insurance so they're a possibility.
When I first tried looking I was getting silly quotes in the region of 1700 for a standard car! Very happy with the quotes by both companies. I went with Gary @ Keith Michaels as they insured the car for Scoobyslammed so knew it very well!
Nice Type R by the way

Gary Moulson did me a amazing deal last year... age 25... with some ncd, F/C, £1250 quid...
Rebuild... £10K is about right, from when I took it off the road, it had a good amount spent on it by previous owners...

The heads were refreshed, and checked out mate... the valves and cams are standard version 4 stuff mate...
Ver 4 stuff is the better stuff to have mate, more than good enough for a 500bhp road car... if it was tracked every weekend then maybe change them...
But it really wasn't worth it...
TBH I'd like to think it'll pull around the 450bhp as it is now with a new clutch...
Its deffo not slow... its damm viscious when the right foot is down...

So looking forward to bonus time and buying the kit... wonder what it will pull like even like it is at the moment without the clutch slipping... 500+ bhp will just be ludicruous! Would be good if you guys can come down in the new year!

do you still live at home?
I was paying around £1k on a UK turbo at 25-30 yrs and that was on dad's insurance with CIS, and he had 70% NCD.
Now, married and not living at home, £1k on insurance would be silly now I'm 33.. and 8 mortgages on the go!.... and running TWO Smart cars! lol

Not now mate... Moved into my house with the girlfriend about a month after I sold the Scoob to Ross... Really do miss it, now driving round in a 51 reg 306 diesel estate, ideal with just buying a house and nice and cheap to run... the misses still has her Y-reg A3 1.8t... lol
I have a project car on the go now ( MK2 H-reg Orion... soon to be running 2 litre zetec turbo, running between 250-300bhp )... I just couldn't justify holding onto the Scooby and not really using it... it was heartbreaking to let it go after the ££££ and hours I put into building it, but it couldn't have gone to a better person...
Gary Moulson sorted my insurance out... I won't ring anybody else mate... the guy is a star...
I build Bentleys 4 days a week mate, and the misses is a dental nurse... it helps pay a near £900 quid mortage every month...

do you work at the Bentley main place at Crewe?

Scooby Senior
did you get to see a new coupe bentley come back to Crewe that had caught fire with an 'electrical fault', it was one of our customers, he'd just parked it in his gargage, went in his house next think he knew the gardener came round and said the cars on fire!!! worst thing was it was next to his other Bentley (Red Label) that had all its side burnt.
It seemed as soon as fire brigade had put the car out etc, a bentley lorry came and took the car away!!!
All that part of his house was very badly smoke damaged, we do his decorating so had to re do everything that we'd only done a couple of years early.
dead imnpressed with the garage floor coating we'd used a few years ago, as all it had damaged on it was scorch marks, it just needed cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. shame the rest of the gargage did come off as ligtly, it need re plastering and a full re paint.
I beleive he got a new car out of it and had a 'deal' done on another equiverlant new red label.

Na, didn't see that... any misshaps like that don't normally get seen by people that don't need to see... gives a bad rep out...
These things happen...
They are a nice car... but I'd much prefer my Type R...

Quick update..
Picked the car up from ABW... top job sorting paint out after the battery leak.. thanks Darren!
Off to Florida shortly for a break (driving a Chrylser Sebring Convertible.... will see what that is like), then back to plans for gearbox and clutch.... I think I know what I want... A PPG box, 1-2 straight cut, 3-4 helical and source a longer 5th. Exedy twin plate 'hyper' clutch that I believe includes a lightweight flywheel.
Mocom and Zak will be the guys for the work and will be speaking to him in more detail about possible alternatives to the above and the 5th gear.
If anybody has any better / alternative ideas, then please put them forward and always keen to listen to others advice / thoughts.
Thanks all...

I have holidays and Xmas coming up so a little short on funds at the moment for mods.. but will keep the thread updated. Have lots of plans after the gearbox & clutch/flywheel, but these are all mechanical/electrical so the exterior will remain in the perfect 'non chav' condition that it is.
Making up for the lack of mods in the short term by layering on the Blackfire Canauba Wax... (top stuff) had some comments from the neighbours like.. 'my friend does her makeup in the reflection of your car'.. 'that is the shinest car I've ever seen'..'how do you get it so shiny?'... etc etc.
#264
Had the car detailed by Matt Neame (use MNeame) on here - top top fella and comes fully recommended!! Blackfire Polish, followed by the Wet Diamond sealant and then the canauba wax on top of that. Came out stunning, was getting dark by then though so didn't get to take any pictures. Still, at least the paintwork is sealed for the Xmas period and will try to get another couple of wax layers built up over the next month if I can.
Regarding the transmission - plans have been put on hold until Feb (bonus time ). Having just been on holiday, with xmas coming up and with the missus b'day being on 25th Dec as well... funds are a bit low. With the trans cost coming in at £5k, rather than get it done now and f*ck myself up for a couple of months, I should wait and get it done in Feb.

Spoke to Andy for you... it maybe the air-con is not working due to it not being turned on in the ECU... so if you leave that until the next boost tweak, he'll plug in see if he can get it working providing we can find the relay... maybe he's just missed it...
#266
Not too fussed about the air-con at the moment... can just open the window and tis chilli in seconds .
hoping to get another layer of wax on this weekend, other than that.. all quiet on the mod front.
Have found a chap on ebay selling 6 defi gauges for c.£720.. (oil pressure/temp, boost, EGT, water temp, fuel pressure).. tempting for a pre-xmas treat but gonna keep the pennies for the trans (which is when the catch tank will also be fitted (finally!)).
#269
Not at the moment fella,
Another weekend, another PB wash and BF wax...!! Has about three extra wax coats on top of the polish, sealant and first wax coat when it was detailed by Matt Neame early December.
Only possible mechanical update is that I'm looking to book it in for the transmission for the end of February. Will also have another service to get all the fluids replaced and the catch tank will also be fitted at the same time.
Was keepiing it quiet until I was certain about when it is being done... didn't want to build up expectations lol..
How is the 306 HDi?
