Well then... suppose I better update the thread...
Saturday the 28th July... Was judgement day...
While waiting for Andy ( Sister's boyfriend ) to come down to do the final map... my job saturday morning was to get hold of a couple of brass 'T' peices, and a 2-port boost solenoid... One was sourced from a MK3 VW Polo from the scrapyard for £10 quid!!!
In the week I got a roll of 6mm, and 4mm boost pipe... and a granger valve or also known as a mechanical boost controller ( clever thing this )...
http://www.gb-ent.com/index.php?page...emart&Itemid=1
So, I mounted the 2 port boost solenoid to the inner wing... pretty much in the same place as the factory one... ( why a 2 port, i'll explain later as best as possible )...
One wire was run from the 2PBS to the earth on the battery, then another wire was run from the 2PBS to the inside of the car, near the handbrake...
In the pictures above somewhere you'll notice a orange switch near the handbrake... ( the old switch for the anti-lag when the GEMS was fitted ) as this switch was doing nowt now running on the Adaptronic, we thought it may aswell get used for the 2 stage boost control...
Now remember the car has run actuator pressure for a while now @ 14psi...
Anyway, Andy arrived and started connecting the boost pipes everywhere... Also linked up his home-made detcans, wide band and lap top to the ECU... It looks like life support by the time everything is pluged in...
Now, from what I understand, stage 1 is actuator pressure @ 14psi... goes very well... lol
Again, somewhere in the pics above you'll see some nice new blue pipe... Inline is the granger valve ( really in a way like a bleed valve ), and the 2PBS. When the switch inside the car is flicked this sends power to the 2PBS which opens it inline with the granger valve... hence 22psi lol. when its closed it runs actuator pressure @ 14psi... Quite a simple idea but works very nicely...
We did while out mapping go upto 24psi... but decided to stick @ 22psi... really for reliabilty for its new owner, and to keep the gearbox in 1 peice for a while...
Once back home after a hour or so of mapping, the bonnet was popped to tie all the new boost pipes on, as we did manage to get the map sensor pipe to blow of when boosting away... lol

Been out in it this morning and it ain't really sunk in yet... I mean, its felt quick for ages @ 14psi but my god!!! when you flick the switch and get another 8psi, and it peaks @ 22psi, you just hold on tight and point it roughly where you wanna go... the back end squats like a tw*t, the front end feels like its left the ground... OMG
The noise it makes @ full chat... lol Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrggggghhh!!! Get out of the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then the chatter you get when you let off...
God... why am I selling this car for a few bricks...??? Very sad...
Its absolutley awesome... it takes your breath away... I sit back now and think... f**king hell, I, along with help... have built that with my own hands... HOW? And FFS, in my mum and dad's living room...!!! ( it will be remembered on here for years to come )
It took a few weekends to build in reality, and a year of saving...
Its absolutley stupid, crazy, and shouldn't be allowed on the road... how it puts the power down is beyond me... I just wish I had a deeper pocket to fund a uprated gearbox etc and then whack it upto 32psi... and keep it...
Its bonkers... really feel in love with it again... it is one sick road car...

But its still gotta go...

All thats left for me to do now is fit the oil catcher tank... didn't manage it today with all the cleaning...
MOT it in a week...
And remove all my ICE and chuck something else in for the new owner...

Oh well... £11K, ANYONE WANT IT???

PS, can anyone PM me a diagram/ insructions on fitting my oil catcher tank??? would be much appreciated...

Thought I'd covered this question further back in the thread... But I've had 7-8 people PM about the car regarding wanting to buy it... lol
The question that keeps on popping up is:-

Why did you change from the GEMS ECU to ADAPTRONICS...
And the other comment is 'I've never heard of ADAPTRONICS'

Well, the main reason was ANDY ( my sister's boyfriend/ mapper )
He wasn't happy with the GEMS's adjustability, he thought it was very over-rated, and although it did the job, at the end of the day its a rally based ECU...
To drive a car with GEMS fitted, you'll notice its all or nothing, its not great to drive round town, as it can be jerky...
Some may say this is down to mapping, but in my case it wasn't... the GEMS on the car was a older version and really would have been a pig to drive once the 800cc injectors were fitted...

So, he has used ADAPTRONICS before and thought it would be a better option on my car without breaking the bank... ££££
And you know what, once again he was right... yes, I hadn't heard of them before, but, don't mean it aint any good because it ain't a name we aint all heard of...
First thing I noticed once it was fitted and mapped was the way it drove... it was so much smoother... nice to drive round town if needed, started first time... plus the throttle responce was alot better... MPG was better...
The ECU does everything better than the GEMS could have ever done...

One downer for some is it ain't got the anti-lag function on it...
But thats a plus for me now, because the car was built for reliability... hence running 2 stage boost, for the wilder momments...
Anyone that is interested in the car and does come to view it won't be dissapointed... It drives like a car from the factory, but with way more power... lol

A link to the Adaptronics website:-

The ECU fitted to the Type R...

I had the car mopped on friday... this was needed due to a few little marks turning up on the car... and to perfect its already stunning finish... lol
I ended up spending all day on friday on it... and saturday morning on it...
It looked mint for its test drive by its new owner...
I will get some pics up if it stops raining... but yep, It's sold, I have been left a deposit by Rossi, he is hoping to pick it up this weekend, or middle of the week after...
My job now is to take all my ICE out and take it for MOT on friday...

Can't wait to pick it up...

I will keep this thread updated as I follow the project on and throw all my cash at it. Engine is done, so after a little saving (or selling the Pug track car..... Peugeot : Mi16 Road/Track Car - Huge Spec free plug ), I'll be turning attention to the gearbox first (to make that most of that engine) around the end of the year, then onto suspension mods.

Just want to say that the car and the way it drives (fly's!) is a credit to Chris and his friend Andy! Top work fellas

Cheers... i'm really looking forward to picking up my 51 reg 306 2 litre HDi estate... lol

Hope you look after it, and can't wait to see you do your bit on it...
Once you have the gearbox done, Andy will be more than happy to come a tweak the map... and increase the boost if you feel its needed...

Your gonna be impressed when you pick it up in the week... I've sorted out all the paperwork etc, looks very posh now...

Thumbs up

Its sold mate... Rossi p now owns it...
I'm sure he'll say the same... but tbh, with it being a 2.35, there really ain't any lag, it just pretty much pulls...
@ 22psi its crazy... wouldn't mind a blast in it if Rossi every decides it needs 30psi... it was built for it lol...
Gearbox first though...
Cheers...

There isn't really any lag, then when she spools up... Christ! That's on 'low' boost!

Chris... you're welcome anytime to have a go in it! I'll insist when the gearbox goes in !

I'm guessing that gearbox will be in either Feb next year as have holidays and Xmas to pay for yet. Or might just say screw it and whack it on the card Haven't decided whether to go for 5 speed PPG or 6 speed yet.

Oil catchment tank goes on this weekend (as long as no problems), and re-gassing the air con.

I found 22psi way to addictive... and it was only like that for 3 weeks before it went to you lol... It raws like f**k, and proper goes like stink... Take it you haven't got used to high boost yet Ross???
Never mind... I have my HDi 306 now... can boot that all I want and the fuel gauge hardly moves...
In the Type R its a different story lol...
Dont forget pics and updates mate...
Pics of it at your house would be a start...

Haven't even had it on 22psi yet! Only used for the long drive to Devon then home again. Had the girlfriend and a couple of her mates in the back on the way home... They were all chattering about girly stuff so foot down on low boost out of a junction and they all shut up very quickly . They all complained of whiplash , and pleaded me not to try 'ludicrous speed' as I referred to it! Taking it back to show the old man this weekend so will be giving high boost a go.

Fuel gauge... I remember the test drive where we done 1/4 tank !

Hopefully get some pics done this weekend (with catchment tank in), was going to when I cleaned her at the weekend but in between the clean and lunch the old lady next door managed to spray her hose on her while watering her garden... now has the water marks so needs another clean. Already done it twice! Wasn't happy!

Meant to ask, what polish/wax did you use? I've always used either Autoglyn or the Meguiars 3 step, but wondered if you have any recommendations....

Will also phone re the oil change process.. planning to get that done by the end of the month.

E_M_B - Yep - still the Axis EJ22 lump! Have been no problems and fingers crossed stays that way! The engine build (and the car in general) is a credit to Chris, his friend Andy, and Axis.

The build imho is pretty bullet proof... that was the idea when I spent ££££ on it... There was no short cuts on the build, everything was changed... I mean everything, which is the only way for a reliable big bhp build...... which has been achieved, although I think there is still more in it with another 10psi... lol
Maybe after the gearbox upgrade...
This sort of power has to be repsected on the road... it could/ can get out of control very easily... you have to really think about what your doing...

The only polish I used was Poorboys blackfire range... I've tried everything on it mate... please for your own sake don't use autoglym or meguires... its ok, but will ruin the finish acheived on it... It'll start going hazey...
Give them a ring, have your card ready mate... trust me, its worth the extra ££... and it lasts, I've spent a fair bit of time on the phone to them explaining the current condition of the paint and what I'd like/ acheived...
They are very good on the phone to you...

2 bucket method, patting it dry with a waffle weave towel...
Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish
Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection
Something else I tried aswell, can't remember what...?
I was gonna try some swirl remover... 1 or 2, didn't decide...
But give them a ring...

I deffo use AXIS again for a future build... Ron was very good to deal with...

Thanks must also go to Andy Forrester for his advice... he advised me on Turbo, injector, plugs etc... after many emails bugging him... lol
He advised, and I just payed ££££ lol

Thanks for this... I found Autoglyn and Meguiars good in the past but never had a black car and want to keep that 'liquid' looking finish!

Put my order in with PolishedBliss!

thanks fella!

Going to go on the rr at the end of October. Will post the figures up here...

I'm not a big fan of rr numbers as not a believer in them but gives a general idea about what the car is capable of.

Unfortunately, I doubt the gearbox will be in then so still won't be making full use of the build .
