If your budget can stretch a little, Gingerboy is selling his. Car comes with TSL 333 and has obviously been pampered and is being sold for a genuine reason. I would be guessing but would assume he may budge slightly from 16k and if you could budge from 15k, then you could strike a very good deal and have yourself a faster and all round better package.

Mine has the TSL 333 on it as well. I was like you looking for the PPP on an STI and desite what I said above about sticking to your origional spec and plans, ended up opting for this - get a drive in one and you will see why.......

I never really thought about getting a modified one.
I have had a bad experience in the past when buying modified cars, this time round ive been convinced to look for a car with some sort of warranty.
Am i wasting my time, or is it worth insisting on some sort of warranty.(or even getting a 3rd party one )
That TSL333 sounds awsome but isnt the engine over stressed, does it have a knocklink?
And would i get insured on it?
Currently i got quoted £850 from greenlight for an STi Prodrive type UK with PPP, 26yrs with 6yrs NCD no points or claims, what sort of premium do you pay for the TSL.

As for the PPP'd WRX, couldnt see the pics would like to take a look though.

Give A-Plan a whirl they are very competative.

TSL 333's are teh dogs apparently oh and as for being stressed, an STi is a lot stronget than a WRX strengthened interneals and all that.

An Sti will take 350+bhp no problems at all.

I'd ****** his hand off if he lowers it below 16k!!!

The only thing realy putting me off is no warranty, i know your never going to get one on a modified subaru but i have this vision of the engine going pop or the clutch or anything that costs ££££££.

Get used to the facts that these cars are not cheap to run now mate.

If the car has been well looked after then you should be fine.

Speak to a Subaru salesman about purchasing an extended warranty on this car. The extra cost of warranty will still be within your budget on top of the price of the car, and you will have peace of mind.

Do speak to Subaru first though because there are certain rules (my WRX is coming upto 60,000 miles (60,000/3yr warranty). I could extend the warranty for another year for £1,500!!, but I am not allowed to go a mile over 60,000 before signing the agreement).

I would not have one without a warranty after 2 engine siezures on a standard WRX.

Also, in my opinion Silver is one of the better colours.

Crazyman - my old MY98 UK Turbo went pop (I had to get a new engine from API Engines - excellent!!) and latterly a couple of my sensors were playing up. For this reason, I too was adamant that I would go down the standard warrantied route.

Of course you will have peace of mind for a year or so until the warranty expires and it is up to you but my view was 'what are the chances?' As noted above, the STI engine is far tougher that the WRX engine. How often have you read of an STI engine going pop compared with a WRX engine? The STI engine happily revs to over 7k. The TSL 333 produces 330 BHP compared with 305 bhp fpr a PPP'd STI so the extra strain on the engine is negligable. The modifications are essentially the same i.e. exhaust, panel filter, fuel pump and ecu. Apparently TSL have carried out hundreds of these conversions and not one of them has gone pop. They thoroughly road test the car prior to working on it and I can only assume that in the interests of their reputation, if something did go wrong, they would be very helpful. My dealer said that they would still cover all aspects of the car with the exception of the engine and the electrics. This may be a lot to risk for some, granted.

The advantage of the TSL 333 over the PPP is that it is far more driveable i.e. smoother power delivery over a much wider range. I have also heard that the PPP's cars do not always make the claimed power output. I gave an STI PPP'd owner a drive of my car and he quoted that mine had 'a good bit more punch.' No knocklink is provided with the modification but apparently the SECS monitors work well with this set up. You will also read others opinions on knocklink sensors!!! Oh and I forgot to mention that exhaust note - I got one off my mates to do a 'fly by' for me recently and I was well chuffed.

If you opt for a WRX, you will probably always wish that you went that bit further. Notwithstanding, Corrado boys car looks a cracker.

Finally, regarding insurance, as noted above, the modifications are essentially the same as the PPP so there should not be any difference. The only problem is that the TSL 333 is generally not recognised by most companies (although the same can be said for the PPP) and so they will not touch you. On the other hand, get in touch with a company that know what they are talking about i.e. A Plan and they will quote you exactly the same for the PPP or TSL 333. They are excellent - they insure both my STI TSL 333 with gold 18" PFF7's, Prodrive springs, front and rear strut braces and also my Pug 205 GTI (used mainly for track days.) For the record, I am married, chartered building surveyor, home owner, full NCB, 3 points for speeding, non fault accident 2 years ago (some trumpet in a Mitsibishi Shogun ran into the back of my old scoob) use car for work, car in driveway at night, 20k miles a year and I pay about £900 with my 27 year old wife as a named driver as well (she has her own ford puma)

So it is your shout mate but I know what I would do if I was you. I see Ginger nuts has pm'd you, probably with the same persuation as I have noted above. I now look down my nose at 'non modified' cars and cringe that I could have gone down this route. I suppose I will be laughing on the other side of my face if anything went wrong, however that was the last thing on my mind as I was driving along that Stewarton Road on Tuesday with the window slightly down, listening to that clasic exhaust note and the rev light and beeper flashing away as the sun shon down on the classic twisty B road.

Ginger - if you sell to this guy, you know where you can put your magic trees.......

Excellent!!! And all because I passed the details of Gingerboys car onto you!!! He owes me BIG TIME!!! He wont be on this website for a while as he will be greetin' as he has sold his baby!!! As you know, I also have a TSL 333 conversion on a WR blue STI - FANTASTIC CARS!!! - Enjoy and take care mate - please take it easy as they are ridiculously fast. You will have plenty of time to floor it properly when the better weather comes so take your time getting used to it. Safe motoring!!!

Cheers mate, tis a lovely car indeed, has taken me time to get used to the short box but im getting there!
Been taking it pretty easy at the moment with the odd squirt but nothing too serious, still havent opened her right up yet with just myself in the car as it was 3 up for the test drive, looking forward to that....
