It started about 7 years ago - basically Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) works for CTU (counter terrorist unit part of the US government) and the programme is 24 episodes of what happens each hour of a particular day when some major terrorist threat happens in LA and it all kicks off.

There have been 7 series to date I think (i.e. 7 'days') - the plot lines have loads of twists in them. I started watching series 2 when it was on Sky in 2002 and now am working my way through the box set of series 1 which I got off e-bay
