Wait a minute - if you both meet half way then you're either both driving and not drinking, or both drinking and getting a room.
So why not get one of you to drive to the others, then only one has to either not drink, or there is a free room, even if its the couch!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!
Brentwood is useless......Sams? don't make me laugh!! Slug and wet-lettuice is a ponses hangout.....
Baz Vegas.....too many youngsters.......great parking but might come back to an empty parking space.
If you want "the place", and take it from an expert, is has to be 131 in Romford.....Older crowd......very swish inside.........great music (downstairs does the party thing) and when upstairs opens (the club) it's all great r'n'b etc.....
Truly great place......with plenty of room to still be out and have a conversation....whisper in the ear..
Another place would be the Faces in Hoddleston.....not many people know it's there but thats another swish place....then there's 195 in epping but that's gonna cost plenty of money but you do get what you pay for.....

Ahhh, you should come to the lovely Chelmsford! Nightlife is growing rapidly with new bars popping up all the time!
Sarecens at the top of the high street is good, esp if out with a lady (though i'm biased!)
fair few restuarants to choose from, would prob recomend 'the waterfront' , quite upmarket but not too cha ching!
Also got Edwards, Lloyds, Que Pasa etc... in a sort of square.
Would say Chelmsford is a good compramise between the +'s and -'s of Basildon and Brentwood.....
just my 2p's!

isn't there a restaurant in Chelmsford called the 'Blue Strawberry' which is supposed to be nice. Was going to take my ex (who lives in Great Notley) there....but then she became my ex, so instead I have a rich crop of Nottingham up-market restaurants to go to. There seems to be a very limited supply of them around chelmsford....it's pretty much a case of going to london

the blue strawberry is in hatfiedl peverel i think. loads of good restaurants in chelmsford though. depends how much you want to spend. we often go to the hot house (the food is very good, cheap and they sell leffe blond - and a few other unusual beers too). the saracens head (d-place) is almost next door and they're open later than the hot house, plus they have rooms. the atlantic hotel is pretty close (walking distance and their standards are pretty high - plus the restaurant there is good too).
other chelmsford restaurants - wine cellar (or cellar bar now i think), gerrados on the square, barda, cosmopolitan, la tasca, central, lan thai, siam cottage, various chinese and indian restaurants etc etc

Yeah, blue strawberry is in Hatfield Peveral, about 10mins from chelms, or about £10-15 in a cab... Very nice in there, not cheap though...

A big thanks for all your suggestions!!
I'm likely to either go to Colchester and stay at hers after. Offer is already on the table or take her to chelmsford and do a hotel just off the A12 near the McD's / BP.
Sophie tells me she's got something on Saturday morning so would make more sense.
I totally agree that both of us shouldn't drive.
Will do London this Sunday instead as she's never been.
So now where should I go in Colchester? Resturant then decent bar. Not too loud.
