Taking a lady out in Essex

As the title suggests I want to take a lady friend out in esex and would like to know of any decent bars / pubs worthy of my attention.....

Its not so simple though!

I live in Enfield, she lives in Colchester. We've agreed to meet halfway. In my mind that would mean basildon, chelmsford and er, I'm out of ideas where the middle is.

Place should be cool with good music and possibly have a dance floor. Food would be nice either before or after.

All suggestions would be bgreatly appreciated!!

Esh.
PS My subaru is fine. No reported problems to date!

Festival leasure park will do the trick, plenty to do, nice places to eat.

It is also in the middle :) As it is in Basildon, just off the A127.

Crazy Chick 22 February 2006 07:16 PM

There - that wasn't difficult was it. :p

I'd be tempted to go to Brentwood, just a bit more reserved and classier, nearer to Romford but all together nicer for a night out

But theres a huge car pak at Festival :norty:

ESH 22 February 2006 07:22 PM

Festival was my choice as it has a holiday inn an aroma and various bars. Not that I'm looking to close the deal, I am but not this way..... Rather after a few drinks I wouldn't suggest either of us drive home.

I would like to go somewhere to have a chat aswell and dance.

I don't want to end up anywhere with the potential of aggro.

Where would I go in Brentwood? Bars / pubs? name them.

I wouldnt of thought that Basildon is in the middle of Enfield/Colchester!

Plus the ladies from Colchester are a little bit more reserved than those from Basildon ;) so it might be a bit of a shock for her.

I would have thought Brentwood or Chelmsford. though dont know either well enough for nights out so hopefully somebody else can suggest venue.

Sugar Hut is good (bar & club), as is the Slug & Lettuce and Sams (night club)

Spoon 22 February 2006 07:46 PM

I'd have thought she'd want to go straight to bed.

Slugs are good pubs. Will keep this in mind. Sugar Hut. Hmm This is a resturant / bar?

I sold the Xr many years ago so a hotel will have to do.

Any other suggestions??? May have to take my money to London

Thats not really meeting in the middle is it :)

ESH 22 February 2006 08:19 PM

Kind of eliminates the cars though. Train straight to Liverpool Street and then way hey!!!

I'd prefer to stay out of London. Is festival really any good??? I've only been around there on meetings for work so its been during the day.

To be fair i have only been clubbing a few times there, and had a couple of meal too, but all times had there have been good.

A selection of different bars/clubs too, and hotels near by :norty:

When i first mentioned this though i didnt notice Colchester, but thought you had put Southend.

Couldn't the dating agency supply you with anybody closer then? ;)

The Knives are out 23 February 2006 10:30 AM

IMHO Class Evening Venue and Bas Vegas couldn't be further apart

Loud Brash club night with the lads Bas Vegas is fine

If your "bird" is half fit you will have most of the locals drolling over her

Just my opinion of course

Can't think of any other reason I would go there

STi wanna Subaru 23 February 2006 10:38 AM

I'd take her up the Oxo tower if you can!

I love it up the OXO Tower! The only problem is having to pay the extra for it, but in my opinion it is well worth the cost.

Review by M. Russo, 30/10/2003

For the third time this year I was taken up the Oxo Tower. Each time it just gets better. I must thank Raull for a fantastic evening. It's your turn next!

Review By Tabitha Jamieson 10 October 2003

When my boyfriend told me he wanted to take me up the Oxo Tower for my birthday, I was a bit hesitant at first because I didn't really think it was my scene. How wrong I was! I mean, yeah, so it's a bit of a strain on the old back pocket, and I admit I did feel a bit uncomfortable initially. But a couple of cocktails helped me relax and soon I was really getting into it - we carried on well into the night. It was a great experience and I really loved it - so much so that I won't let my boyfriend take me anywhere else now! So if anyone ever wants to take you up the Oxo Tower, just throw caution to the wind and go for it!

acts of kill kill carnage 23 February 2006 01:28 PM

how on earth did you manage to find a "lady" in Essex...?

Gangsta Smurf 23 February 2006 01:34 PM

errrrr wouldn't recommend taking your lady to Bas Vegas ... i.e. Festival Leisure Park. Yeh it's a good place to hang out but not a date type place if you are trying to impress.

Brentwood is definitely the place to take her. Two very very good bars, The Slug and Lettuce and The Litten Tree. Both are always busy, very lively and the vibe is cool. Litten tree has a dance floor whereas people dance everywhere in the Slug.

There is a gorgeous Thai restaurant right across the road from the Slug, as well as some nice pizzerias and other restaurants dotted up and down the main street. Loads of places to park and very safe.

All in all a very nice area to go out on a date in :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
