Pricey...lol, its cheap mate, a fraction of the cost to do it new, it would cost you over £2K for the EJ22t block and relinering alone no problem though, if your happy to do it with a lesser block then good luck

Lol @ Tim, at this rate with the silly offers I keep getting I'll still have it in 6 months. Problem is people just dont realise whats involved to do a 2.5 Properly

Does anyone know how much the shipping and import duty (I'd imagine import duty is a % of the purchase price) would be?

Scoobyslammed - I e-mailed them a couple of times to get prices for UK delivery in case I wanted to get the work done here and to satisfy myself that they really had them and it wasn't just another out of date website.

Ended up just buying it through the website.

Yes, I just put Axis down as the delivery address. I got it off the website, be carefull as there's 2 address depending on what is getting done but the site details where the engine building goes on.

It took almost a week for it to arrive at Axis. They did warn me it would be a least a couple of days before it went out as they had to have it delivered to them from their holding warehouse before it could be shipped.

Didn't order anything else with the block as all their stuff is OE and I wanted uprated gaskets (off Axis).

Congrats mate.

Hope everything goes as smooth for you as it did for me.

Can't believe I bought an engine, had it converted on another continent and had it shipped to me without even speaking to someone on the phone but when I go into a dealer to ask for inlet manifold gaskets (armed with a chassis number) they still manage to give me the wrong f'ing ones.

Tempted to just buy everything from the states now.

Good man!!
For gaskets simply buy them from David at www.apiengines.com
He does 5 engines a week, so has pleanty of gaskets...
He also speaks fluent UK/Jap etc Imprezas without Dealer stupid bias.

Imagine doing the same but ordering 10 and using other people's money (20k).

I agree it's easier to get Ron to source the other ancillary parts than try the dealers. As soon as I mentioned a US STi 2.5 to a UK dealer they could not help me in a polite manner, and when I tried a smaller dealer they said they needed to look at the engine.

Mind you I'm sure the likes of Zen,API,Andy F & Lateral can source OEM parts at reduced rates, it's about having the knowledge & insight to know the exact part numbers.

IMO unless there is a warranty issue involved, I wouldn't look any further than these 4 plus AS Performance, everything Subaru is covered!

I too was very close to ordering an Axis engine, I'd also spoken to Crawford too, but then a good deal on a low mileage EJ257 came along - bank account won

Ron,

With the 2.33lt build, how do you address the issues of fitting a "phase two" crank, into a "phase one" block, given phase one is "centre thrust" bearing, and phase two "end thrust" bearing ?

Mark.

Sorry, been away for a short time.

Yes, I do address the issue with using the phase 2 cranks into the phase 1 blocks. The first generation of ej257 cranks needed only to be checked for center thrust clearance. The cranks actually had the center thrust cut into them from Subaru, the clearance came in between .005-.008". The second generation of ej257 cranks, which carry a different part number, also had the center thrust cut into them, but these needed to be opened up a bit. They usually came in at .002-.004", which is a tad to tight.

I keep the center thrust clearance at about .006-.008". If for any reason the thrust comes in more than that, I will buy an undersize bearing for the thrust and have the center main journal cut/polished to fit.

Out of all the stage 4 blocks I have done, only 1 needed to be adjusted using the first genereration of ej257 cranks. The later version of ej257 cranks have all needed attention.

What do you do about the fact that the centre journal of the EJ257 crank doesn't have a ground thrust bearing surface, but a quite roughly machined surface? If you run bearings on such a surface, the high spots on the crank eat into the bearing within 100 miles.
