I had the first PS, couldn't be arsed with consoles for a while, same issue people are have with the 360, nothing made me think i'll spend £300 on the PS2, plus the fact you couldn't find one in shops. But even now looking at the PS2 the only games i'd buy it for were Gran Turismo and Pro Evo, well played GT4 the other week, wasn't overly impressed with the control aspect compared to GT2 on the the PS1, and Pro Evo has made an apperance on the Xbox which i still have somewhere.

I'm not really bothered if Sony make an award winning console, the only good that will come if they do would be a price war, which can only benifit us, the public, the thing that makes me laugh is people claming the PS3 is going to be amazing. Sony don't even know what the final artical is going to look like yet so how can people be championing it

Shares in MS....i ******* wish

It's probably being hyped as much as the 360 though. If the PS3 was out first, I've no doubt the 360 would be being hyped / marketed as a PS3 beater.

Truth is, we'll probably not know which console is better until about 2-3 years after release when the power really starts to be harnessed.

Well developers are currently writing software for the PS3 so there must be something out there

Converse to what you say, I don't know how people can say the 360 will be a lot better than the PS3 when you don't know what you are comparing it to (or should that be, what will eventually be released )

Ok...

Generally it is accepted that the PS3 will be more powerful (in sheer number crunching terms), based on the proposed spec's against what the 360 can do..... but in all reality, after speaking to a number of people in the know, it transpires that at this stage the benefit to the end user will be negliable.

Hanslow,
They are dev kits mate, and in essence as long as the code runs on the final spec then it doesnt matter. The first batch of games will not be using anywhere near the full facilities of the console, so they can afford a dev kit to be throttled somewhat as regards to the final spec.

Regards,
Shaun.

But would one be right in assuming that the dev kit somewhat represents the final system (otherwise what's the point developing for a system that is in a state of major flux)? How quantifiable somewhat is though could be discussed into the early hours

Would be interesting to see how far in advance new 360 games were developed in comparison to how far in advance new PS3 games are being developed.

Hanslow, do you have shares in Sony?

It is true you can not say the 360's better, but the truth is it's here now, it's if rumours are to be believed, a year ahead of the PS3?

I brought an 8 game 360 bundle from Game, [Didn't think the console from Play was turning up, although it did.......the next day) and being a big kid i kept all the games, add to that the 2 Play sent me (to sit doing nothing without a console...*******!!!!) i've had the chance to have a good look at the majority of the games, you've got games though out the scale, bad ones, a few ports from other consoles/PC, and a few brilliant ones, PG3 being one, meaning things can only get better. Top Spin 2 looks great and if it plays like the last will be a great addition, plus the LIVE Arcade, Street fighter II rumoured to be future download.

But in general, it's a case of if you want a supposed next gen console now, then its the 360's as its here now (If you can find one), where as the PS3 possibly a year away. Nothing to stop someone buying a 360 now and then doing a trade in for a PS3 in a year if you don't like it, either way your a winner.

Exactly,

Tech specs are all well and good for arguments sake, but how they translate to the gaming experience is another thing entirely. It's like comparing two heavyweight boxers, you can argue that one is stronger than the other, but at this level the point is that both have the power to finish the fight in one punch, so the difference is redundant; they are both powerful enough!

The real difference between the two is that the Xbox 360 camp will have had 6 months extra to train!!! The programers are playing catch-up with the technology at the moment and we're told that the Ps3 is more difficult to develop games for, so it would seem that it's advantage Xbox.

LOL you'd think so wouldn't you Actually I own the company No, just playing devil's advocate and representing the other side. Mind you, you really can't beat Final Fantasy VII for a game

It does make me laugh the amount of people that are saying one of the best things about XBox live is the arcade but. Why don't these people just get a copy of M.A.M.E. and use them on that?

If you've got one and enjoy it then good for you As already said, it's a next gen console, it's here now, the PS3 isn't. But can you truly say that you have a next gen game? It's all speculative until we all see the release lineup for the PS3 and compare to the current set of 360 games. The true proof about which one is better will be when a game comes out on both formats. It'll be clear to see which one is better then.

There's no killer app out now or for the forseeable future that makes me want a 360 I know I will want to play Final Fantasy on the PS3 so am prepared to wait. If something comes out in the meantime for the 360, I could always get one. Hopefully it'd be a revision 2 with less hardware problems (awaits backlash ) and the games would be cheaper to pick up second hand

I've grown out of having to have the latest tech straight away I'm a bit more shrewd now and weigh it up against cost and buy when I think the price is right, which for me, is definitely not now. If the PS3 turns out to be extremely expensive (and Final Fantasy isn't yet out on it), I'll be prepared to wait for it to drop down in price.

Everyone has their own opinion, this has been mine and I'm just trying to offer my opinion and an objective point of view from someone still sat on the fence

But it could always turn out to be a boxer vs a martial arts expert (although I'm not saying which is which )

If the PS3 is backwards compatible with ps2 stuff then it will get my vote,

As for the 360, i,m fed up of buying games for my nipper, to find there not compatibl,e and the only way he can resolve it its to log onto the xbox web thing , my nipper had enough trouble sorting out his pc, so there aint no way he wants the same hassle with the 360,

got to honest apart from one game, theres nothing about it that sparks any interest,

the graphics are mediocre / comparable to the ps2 what do you expect from a composite signal,

Before any of you start ranting about the HD, dont bother, what good is that??

its only any good if you have a hd tv. It dosent say on the box, must be used with a hd tv, or hd tv included.

at least with the ps2 its out of the box, and what you see is what you get,

not look at the fabberooney piccy (*only if you have a £1200 pound hd tv)

and the price of the games. £50 quid for games visually no better than ps2,

extotionate if you ask me

M.A.M.E. games aren't available with the bells and whistles HD eyecandy makeover

It's next gen console, you should expect to need a next gen tv I've been using my 15yr old 14" portable TV on my xbox and finally decided to upgrade to a 32" HD LCD to compliment my 360, and I must say it puts a new lease of life in to it.

It isnt just nicer sharper gfx on HD, take Fight Night 360 demo for instance, it looked and played abysmal on a regular tv, but playing it in HD is a totally different experience.

BTW the games are £39.99 from most of the usual places.

I had no idea that you could play against online opponents and compete in global leaderboards in MAME ? Not to mention playing legally . . .

Well if you own the boards with roms then it's perfectly legal....

Sod online, that's what real mates coming round are for

I'm buggered if I'm paying for a HD TV at the moment I've just had to splash out on a new (to me) 36" Sony Widescreen CRT. Took me ages to save up the £75 to buy it off my mate who has just upgraded to HD. Does us fine for the time being. I'll wait until flat panels are affordable (but that's another story!).

Have fun with your 360s and setups chaps I never really got into the online thing on standard XBox, just didn't keep my interest. Can't knock the 'system' though, they've done a top job on it, better than the PS2 online stuff. I just like my 'hermit' single player games and when mates come over

Maybe I'll go back to my Speccy emulator when games were games and frustration was waiting two and a half minutes for a game not to load
