Does the word "recurgitated" actually have a meaning in Audi-land? (or should that be "skoda-seat-sin-bin-land")

Lots of choice for 3-4k, depends a lot on the sort of thing you want. Can go anywhere from an entertaining smaller turbo-diesel (Focus TDCi, late 306HDi), up to turbo Saabs and Volvos or V6 Mondeo, Vectra etc. Could just swing an MG ZS180 for under £4k if you don't mind a few miles on it, they're good to drive and quite quick without silly running costs too.

Maybe class leading but our neighbours 25k 2004 A4 has the same dials switchgear and electronic readouts as my wifes £9k Fabia.

Just goes to prove that the Saab 9-5 interior may just be a tad better than a Corsa's.

Your wifes car is obviously gaining from being part of the VAG family. Why complain?

Regurgitated GM rubbish- have we forgotten that GM owned 20% of Subaru until recently, releasing the Saab 9-2X (North America only) which was basically an Impreza WRX with a Saab front end.

Think they sold their share to Toyota last year sometime.

I knew that they owned subaru but they let them get on with their own think a bit like opel. the 9-2x was a crap SUV though. I belive there was going to be platform sharing between saab and subaru before it got broken off.

being part of the VAG family
I had a Seat Leon Cupra back in 2001 that was part of that Family... Most unreliable car I've ever owned (28 new cars since 1984). Kept it 9 months and did 12K - mostly to the dealers and back (eventually). The ageing Audi interior was a joke. Plus, it was slower and handled worse than our 9-5 Estate! Wooden steering and a total lack of understanding about chassis dynamics; not sure what VAG were up to.

Still, now we have a choice of pace, space and comfort (05 Saab 9-5 Vector Estate with 210 Hirsch kit) or the car for that early morning charge across the hills and dales of the North East - 05 Subaru Impreza STi UK PPP. VAG? I think not - well, maybe the new RS4, the first to have steering with feel...

Cheers

I have a 2002 A4 and my mum has a Fabia and the dials arent the same! The layout is almost the same if thats what you mean. Infact the interiors are surprisingly similar in terms of dashboard layout!

The functions for the trip computer are the same however.

You know you are in a much more upmarket car when sat in the Audi, but the Skoda is still very impressive considering it cost 1/2 the Audi new.

Well obviously your seat leon was a dud and you cant go expecting audi quality ride and interiror or otherwise no one would go out any buy a audi would they. Remember seat is just above skoda but below VW. Because as it goes the engine that was in your cupra is in cars across the VAG range with millions and millions sold yet they seem ok. With every marquee there is a dud car every now and again.

You mean ok enough to end up as a feature on BBC TV's Watchdog?

What about the Coil fiasco? My Seat's 20VT had 3 replacements and thousands of others were duff too - all across the VAG range. It was so bad, Coils were in short supply and new cars in showrooms/compounds were "robbed" in order to keep stranded vehicles running. Was there a recall?

And my Seat had all the usual Leon faults - lousy paintwork, leaking door seals, grabbing brakes (common on VAG platforms), weak synchro, rattles, squeaks etc from the Dash/rear seat/hatch, misting headlights and so on...

A one off? No.

Well I knew about coil problems in the high performance versions of the 1.8t or 2.0t (the S3 motor). Didnt know about the grabbing breakes lousy paintwork etc. I was under the impression it was a pretty solid car like the audi's. The problems sound very VW golf GTI like to me.

I take back what I said earlier.

You do talk nonsense mate.

Im not quoting book figures for the fuel economy here I'm talking real calculations from absolutely full tank to absolutely full tank. The computer actually reads more than 35 with a completely mixed bag of driving, ie, town, cruise on motorway and a bit of fun.

My aeros have always returned better fuel economy that my normal 2.3T 9000s, they have much longer gearing.

As for your GM comment, get your facts right and for that see the other posts.

For more evidence of great fuel economy from the 9000 aeros pop on over to the saab forums.

Most of the times I work on solid tangeable facts.

Why hasnt saabs uber and wonder like mpg figures been widely documented and why do cars that are generally consider as better than them in every concievable way not able to hold a candle to the figures that you supply?

Seeing as the computer on your SAAB is a product of GM its most likely malfunctioning or innaccurate.

35mpg from mixed driving which includes fun is a joke. Why cant the lighter vauxhalls and opels pull those figures? And if the car is so great why are saab loosing money? The entire GM range exept Hummer, cadillac and opel/vauxhall seem to be loosing money. Saab might not even be around for much longer. The head honchos in america are thinking of killing the brand off.

You just can't let go of this GM thing can you? We are talking about pre GM involvement cars here.....I typed this slowly so hopefully you can keep up.

Regarding the fuel economy, so I'm lying, skinters is lying (and he has got a 310bhp monster) and various people on the saab forums are obviously just randomly making stuff up.

Something tells me your loved audi has been spanked by these rubbish old swedish tanks too many times.

I'm sure the thread starter is getting mightily bored with this saab discussion now but just to clarify something. When I said a mixed bag of driving I didn't mean in equal proportions, the vast majority of this 35mpg is motorway driving at a steady 70 mph.

ahhh a volvo driver.....suddenly the Saab bashing becomes all too apparent!

Also, I bet your volvo returns better fuel economy than my old classic saab 900T. 20mpg at best....gulp.

I'm sorry - how exactly does my pointing out your poor grasp of the English language relate to the quality of an Audi's interior?

Still, all S40 drivers have my sympathies.

Yeahhhh

I said Saabs components are rubbish because its basically GM. You then said something which could be interpretated as to saying audi's interiors are shared with skoda's.

And so I suppose you have sympathy too for every focus driver and mazda 3 driver then aswell.

I never mentioned the word "interior" at any stage. Therefore how you can "interpretate" (which also isn't a word) my comments in that way is a little bit beyond me.

Has anyone else noticed the irony that Saab's are Vauxhall or basically GM as they share some parts, Audi and Skoda are in no way the same car, and now the Volvo S40 is trying to gain a "halo effect" from being fairly loosely related to the Focus.

Tell you what, come back to me via pm in a few years once you've mastered English, and we'll have a proper healthy adult debate. Until that time, leave this thread to talk about the subject and run along and play elsewhere.

Yes because volvos didnt sell before they were bought by ford did they now. And by loosely related they share chassis which was taken from a MAZDA and they also share engines. Hell the new st uses a engine borrowed from a volvo. And last I checked Volvo was positioned above ford matey.

Interesting comment... So no one bothered to buy Volvos for 80+ years, and the Company just sat around waiting to be "rescued" by FoMoCo? Hang on! My Parents bought 6 Estates and a Saloon between 1976 and 1984; there's 7 sales for the Company!

At various times since they built their first car in the 1920s, Volvo have been Sweden's biggest exporter - on occasions, outselling even ABBA... Whilst they undoubtedly benefit from the Blue Oval's marketing prowess and bulk buying power for raw materials, to say they didn't sell before Ford took over, is a little silly.

I said Saabs components are rubbish because its basically GM
Really? We've just done 1000 miles in 4 days in our 9-5 Estate, and nothing fell off, rattled or broke. It's 210bhp engine managed to average 71mph/31.5mpg on the 305 miles run down to the West Country, and 73mph/30.3mpg on the 305 miles run back up to the North East. All completed with 3 fully grown passengers, 2 Labradors and lots of gear.

The Saab designed and built 2Ltr Engine and Sensotronic Gearbox were a delight to use, the Saab designed (and built) leather seats oh so comfortable to sit in, and the Saab designed (and built ) Audio system excellent to listen to. Mind, the GM supplied (and built) wheel bolts for the Saab designed (and fit) alloys, have corroded and will be replaced under warranty on Monday...

I guess, but it's Scoobynet so things go off topic very quickly! Besides, go buy a 9-5 for £3-4K.
