Have you ANY idea how stupid you look sat there in the drivers seat with a pair of headphones on, carressing a LapTop and getting a hard-on at the very thought of the up-and-coming Rolling Road shootout!!

Not at all..... but I think it is my duty to open peoples minds and realise that Pete's technical knowledge is that of a single celled organism.

Pete,

When are you going to realise that we all have limitations..... yours are obviously lower than most single celled organisims.

The ECU will detect DET and will TRY and reduce it... BUT only within set parameters. That does not mean the ECU will get rid of DET, so to not cause damage or an engine failure.

OK, sensible now ........ I am talking the standard engine used in the way that Subaru designed it for. The ECU WILL sort out all issues presented to it under these conditions.

Taking an engine out of its design envelope may require special measures ... but a CockLink is NOT one!!

I repeat that it is adjusted upon assembly into the car so that it does NOT light red!! WTF point is THAT??

Also, the knock sensor Subaru placed and supplied is in the BEST place for one .... therefore the CockLink Sensor will NOT be in the best place and will pick up all kinds of noise from everywhere.

No it doesnt Pete; and if you knew what you were talking about youd be aware of this. The early Imprezas ECUs are notoriously slow to react to detonation and when they do they have a very small amount of adjustment available.

With regard to your assertion that you can feel detonation (which youve made countless times when you troll in threads like this); Im sure that any one here with even a small degree of mechanial knowledge, will be aware that an engine can be destroyed by detonation and the driver wont know until his crankshaft fails.

Pete,

Again your superior knowledge is astounding!!!

Take a standard engine and standard map. Take a faulty regulator or a faulty fuel pump (fuel pump not flowing as it should or regulator reducing pressure slightly)..... what could be induced..... low and behold DET. The ECU may try to do everything it can to reduce the DET (by retarding ignition) but the ECU can only do so much and DET could still continue.

Absolutely.... I have already had one engine failure due to DET (because of a faulty fuel pump). You couldnt hear it (at high rev's - you know Pete things like engine noise, road noise and wind noise stop that ability at high revs) and could only feel it a nanosecond before it let go.

And no disrespect..... but most people wouldnt know what DET sounded like anyhow.

So, the pain is a warning that permanent damage might be done. It warns you to stop before you actually do yourself some real harm. Useful to have some advance warning, isn't it?

Suppose you didn't have the pain response. What would be your first warning then that something was wrong? A cracked skull, perhaps? Blackout? A brain haemorrhage? Nasty. But at least you might recover on your own, given time.

Engines don't heal.

I would suggest that your engine let go due to fuel starvation myself!!

And could you please tell us how a CockLink, adjusted to not show red, would have assisted you in that engine fault??

And I can EASILY hear pinking!!

Yeah.... which caused massive DET!!!!

You must have good hearing, if you can hear DET at high RPM and high prolonged speed.

I havent ever suggested that Comma oil is poor Pete. I may have pointed out the differences between hydrocracked mineral oil and synthetic ester based oil; but you knew way too much to pay any attention.

Youre a know-it-all Pete; but you know nowt. If you really wanted to help people then Id applaud you, but really, you just want to show off.

You may ask why is it so pointless, I'll let you into a secret as to how the CockLinks are set-up .............. fix CockLink to vehicle, start engine and ADJUST, YES!!! ADJUST the device until no red light is seen!!!!

WTF????????????

LOL ..... Lewis is really showing his ignorance here of how a knocklink is set up and also of its purpose and usefulness.
So, because he can't work it out it must be crap in his screwed up head.

Lewis sounds almost insane on this thread. I can almost hear him cackling madly and playing a discordant fugue on his tiny organ, like the phantom of the O(ap)era.

I'm NOT going to follow the ScoobyNet ***** and scare the crap out of newbies .................... no need for CockLinks, and thats my EXPERT opinion!

Now, I understand that you have CockLinks lighting up your dashes and you think it makes you look 'really' cool and makes you feel that you have a 'really' special car that needs 'really' special things - BUT you are living a dream!

Sorry to be the one to 'pop' your bubble ....... and your mummy thought you were really special with a special car with special lights ... awwwwww!

No doubt he is. But I'm waiting for dinner to cook and have had a couple of drinks, so it's harmless entertainment. The thought that he might actually be smacking his head against a wall brings me a little guilty pleasure too
