When is the car going to be at RCM?

I have just read this thread from start to finish, I just wanted to know if the tuning bug is really that addictive, even though you seem to of had a great time doing all the work. Even with the little upset regarding the dump valve and injectors, now having it all sorted. You are going to change it all again, are you completely MAD or just Madly Addicted.
Whatever, great thread and one serious Impreza.

mad
cars back on the drive only really drove home as didn't want to drive the car to far with a shafted back box - this will be replaced this week
i couldn't make up my mind but probably going for the RCM backbox for tarty reasons more than anything else, I was looking for a jap one but couldnt be bothered to import in the end
( yes Mark i am copying you
)
exe tc coil overs are un real, very pleased car feels very sure footed
gear box is fine yeah a bit noisy but better than i thougt it would be, i didnt realise how much better the gear changes would be - the box is far better than std very positive gear change and no where near as notchy
clutch fy wheel seem good ... didnt even notice at first but its caught me out twice on the way home jumping down the street
will get used this this
when i ve had time to take the car out for a good run I will let you know more probably next week after i fit the exhaust
had to spend the afternoon at work and just got in- turned out not to be the day i was hoping for but sure is nice to have the car back on the drive... why does work alway manage to get in the way
- as a point of interest to anyone following the mods
API had a problem with the car after the gearbox was fit that it wouldn't boost - turned out that the turbo has been sitting too close to the tgv's and screwed up one of the sensors - one of those flukes that it happened at API's rather than on the road ..... should mention that API fixed for free
and it wasn't a 2 minute fix
sooo don't fit a turbo with a 3 inch inlet in the std position when you have the tgv's in place its really not worth the hastle

ok
had a good drive over the last 2 days
first tank of petrol started a horrible whine noise on boost
, quick email to API and the car was booked to go back in next Saturday ( no questions asked )
thinking the worst, bearing \ turbine i was driving my self a bit mad so wipped the downpipe \ inlet \ intercooler\ manifold pipe work off and re torqued .... noise all gone
, can't believe I did in 2 hours what it took me nearly a week to do in the first place , easy when you know how
i did this purely to put my mind at rest and no disrespect to API, I’m 100% positive they would of sorted it but as its one think i like to tinker with i sorted it my self.... probably nothing to do with what they had done
the gear box is so so so sweet , every gear is notchless and one positive move I can get in to first at low revs which i was told i wouldnt be able to do... its how the car should be from new, and i was worried it would be a compromise
the noise is there and on a daily driver would anoy the **** out of me, but for a weekend car its fine, if i put the stereo on i can't here anything
the clutch at first got on my nerves but after 200 miles seems to have bedded in nicley and no problems any more - I notice its a bit grabby, probably wouldn't want to drive through rush hour every day to work with it but fine for a weekend thrashing, not tryied any drag starts but it will come
im i right in thinking these dual plate clutches are supposed to rattle ?.. this one sounds stock .. yet again very pleased
I bolted on a nice new RCM back box and centre ... the rumble is back, sounds better than the hiper and a much better fit, must be getting old as i also fit a silencer with it
as for the exe tc coilovers, we started on ( out of 40) 25 clicks to hard on the front and 15 clicks to hard on the rear.. by the noise the tyres are making im going plenty quick enough around the twist stuff.... never before have i had the tyres make so much racket around bends. What the coil overs have seriously improved is the braking , as before the back end always went light and starting waving about under heavy braking... now its superb. I would go as far to say do not fit big brake kits to wrx newage cars with out upgraded dampers \ coilovers
well sadly this time i haven’t got many pics of the techy stuff, im sure like me you have seen enough of my turbo to last a life time
heres a few of what she looked like after i put the spanners away this evening

100% happy with the car and the work carried out by API it is such a good platfrom for the new engine
wish all my dealings subaru specialist was so good.trust me some big names I have used I would never go near again. Don't get me wrong it has took allot longer than expected but this was due to external suppliers not getting the gears and having to order from OZ, but i was told from the start what was happening with a no bull**** attitude which i was happy with
................
if anything the car feels a little slow, been thinking this for a while ( before the car went in ) but blamed it on the back box clogging the system
Ive started to think if i stick a compression test on her it will show the worse but hey been told the engine will be started August
now who thinks the turbo will be good for 500 ft lbs on a 2.5 with motec
and do you think i should go for some fancy cams

It's been a long time Rich... I had not realised that you were still chipping away there ! not that you can call that build chipping away for sure
top quality matey looking forward to seeing more and hearing more about the build and car in general

picked up the car Saturday, I can not say how happy I am, the pictures don't do the work any justic, its the little bits that make the difference
I am so happy with what has been done and fell in love with the car all over again, worth every penny
the car's on a run in map for the next 1700 miles, then an oil change and backup to see Bob for the final mapping session. To be honest im not rushing to get the car run in, just enjoying every moment

Rich, you only did 2,300 miles between MOT's last time we saw the car. So running in will be done sometime later in 2010
Nice to know you got there in the end - or is it just the beginning ??

Hi David
plan is to keep the car as is for a good while, get it looking show clean like it used to be ( allthough rcm have done a pretty good job of that already) and enjoy driving

put some miles on the car this weekend, the car is a dream to drive on open roads, instantly notice how smooth it is, coming on and off the throttle is night and day to how it was before, I guess this has allot to do with the new simtek running a map senor rather than the maf
getting used to the clutch and light pullies is a different story
I’m not sure if it’s me forgetting how the car was or the new light pullies, but hard work is putting it lightly - I guess driving a 1 litre polo for 6 months has had an effect - I don't think the current setup would last if I needed to use the car daily ( if Olly from RCM was reading this he would smile as he said a 6 speed with their clutch would be a much better option )
My twin plate clutch still seems to be silent, but I do find the noise of the billet selector forks quite loud which I have never seen written before
I’m sure running the car in has allot to do with me falling out with the gear box\clutch as let’s face it a tuned wrx never made a good shopping car but I can’t help wish I went for a 6 speed
