Graham the actuator cracks at 1 bar which is fine for a std engine, bear in mind that the P1 I map adjusted later that day had the same turbo with same actuator and settings, this had no trouble spooling at all.
I still think that the penny valve is leaking, eventually with some persuasion it would make 1.4 bar but not untill 5700 rpm, very very slow and clearly something amiss, I don't think its anything Rich has done either, checked nearly all his pipe joints and all were fine, needs ramp and down pipe off to check.
Tumble valves are a restriction but not that kind of restriction, it would still boost.

i wouldn't say sucessfull , I have a car that's about as quick as a std wrx
well today I have taken off all the boost\intercooler pipe work to check for leaks and as Bob predicted found nothing at all but atleast everything looks how it should
but still glad i did it as I am 95% confident there is no leak

on a side line I have had another problem that is starting to really play on my mind a bit
when i idle the car tick over lovely
when i hold the revs at 2k the car hunts abour 300 +/- I assumed it was an Air leak but if it is I can't find it
the AFR goes from .97 to 1.5 when its hunting ( on the psi3 unit) and black smoke pops out of the exhaust as it does it
Im hoping the 2 problems are not related as I hold this hunting problem before all the above mods

to be honest, im still enjoying it
after last weeks dissapointment, a little break and im reading every subaru forum on the net looking for simular problems
I think because I know i have put well over 50% more power into the car I expect problems
Today I also moved the drivers side water pipe ( nicly bent ) as its was getting to close to the acutator - this was causeing the the samco not to sit right and dripping coolent now and then

well turbo came off today and the wastegate looked as shut as shut could be
all the gaskets seemed fine and no leaks obvious
can't believe Im going to have to go through the tassk of putiing inlert pipe to turbo again, - this is by far and away the hadest job of the hole project
a standard inlet to standard turbo is easy - this large inlet with all the TVG sensor in the way is an absoloute nightmare
I think next step is get the car looked at by RCM or API as im well and truley stuck, one advantage is I am 100% confident in my work as the second time is easy

do you have to squash the inlet hose againt the manifold to get it to fit
the hose clamp is on
so if its not the waste gate what could cause really poor boost response
- air leak in boost pipework- if there is I can't find it
- blocked filter - its only done 5 k miles
- blockage in the inlet , collapsing samco ? - mmm might try adding a few hose clamps next time im out
- to much oil - I used the RCM fitting kit so think it can't be that
- split\cracked intercooler,
- 3 port bs, when running with the solinoid not connected the boost is still really sulgish
- recirc valve, seems ok piston can move still seems stiff
anyones else want to add anything

Yes, nice to meet you Rich. my PM box is empty now.
Shame still not fully sorted, the inlet pipe is a tight fit - did you chop it down as much as possible cos mine was not that bad.. it was harder on the power steering res at the other end (moved now) but you should not have that problem.
I know its not a consolation, but your car looked great. that frapping great big IC you have really sets the whole thing off.
Other than a bit of fettling to the bell housing, my turbo was a straight bolt on. had no wastegate probs or anything like that.

cheers mark - to be honest the car has never been in such a state, its gone 3months with out a wash ....
Mark I didn't cut any thing of the samco as its seems the right size
I don't know why but I have felt from the start that the turbo is sitting to far to the Right - but thats probably me just looking for faults - I even put the old td04 on today .... now that would be nice and easy to fit

Replace all your vacuum pipes to and from the turbo, manifold and boost solenoids.
Tip for fitting the turbo in an easier fashion, is to allow the up pipe to drop out of the way (as the protruding studs at the top, make the fitting awkward IMO).

p20spd,
all the solinoid and turbo pipe work is swapped - not swapped any of the manifod stuff but all looked ok - not sure what I have missed without taking the intake manifold off
thanks for the pointers
you are very right about the uppipe it is the only way I can do it, took me about 3 hours to figure out the first time
was reading on nasioc, deadbolt and gredy web site that it is impossible\bad move to fit a 3 inch inlet to a car with out tgv deletes... you live and learn

Rich,
the can itself is a cheapo ebay one, £30 IIRC. Pipework is samco stuff. not got the link for the can but here is a couple of pics.

I could do with a catch tank, the one I really like is the RCM 3 port job but its a bit to expensive, do anyone know if anyone else produces a 3 port catch tank
I can seem me getting on like Marks if not
well re fit the turbo today, took the manifold off to check the gaskets for signs of a leak but all seems fine
didn't really take that long, seemed much easyer than last time but I did have a Dad to call upon ever time i need three hands ... made all the difference
new forge dump valve ( recirc ) now on...... fingers crossed
Wasn't to happy that the valve required you to take half you old vlave to bits ( needs the section that attaches to the inlet )
no Camera the the Girl friend has it again
Can't really test as I have need to top up the coolant, trip to halfords in the morrow ... does anyone know if they sell the green stuff, last time I ended up buying red which is still sat on the shelf
say a prayer for me guys as if its not the dump valve Im lost
