Hi killa could of sworn it was you, now I know it was
We were going just fast enough mate
We did not come back over strines ali, we went the safer sheffield route.
Good to meet the rest of you, hope you got home at a reasonble time Dave (Sonicdave)
Do like that white bugeye jb24.
Simon like the seat god only knows how you got on over strines.
Plenty of sideways action over those roundabouts on the way back trying to keep up with Sticky best ride of the night and without casulties

First, and foremost, Al and Shaun (Sean?) are both okay, that's the one important bit. The car looked a right old mess in the bit of light that we had to see by last night. Al, I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise for the time it took us to turn around and get back to you, and further to my text last night, you know where I am if you need anything, lifts, favours, etc.
Conditions went from okay, as in gritted, wet, but with plenty of traction, to nothing in a very short space of time. It was as if the guy driving the gritter got to the middle of Strines moor then clocked off and buggered off home. Everyone was reporting 'moments' of lost traction and sideways travel towards BIG drops.
The other 4 cars in the convoy proceeded with extreme caution to the Snake Pass, which wasn't too cracking itself until after the Ladybower pub, and then onto the Snake Pass Inn, where the car park was already half full of Smacs Scoobys, and the pub was more than half full of well fed, well watered, (mostly) well attired Smacs folks.
Good to see you all. Loved the 'presentation' stylee rolling road things, I'm now considering something similar for the forthcoming trackday.
Hope everyone got home safely, no mean feat in itself given the conditions, although things seemed better on the way home.

Just clocked on to see how things went last night and now I'm sad. Glad to hear by the reports that everyone is OK and I hope the damage isn't too bad. If there's anything I can do to help Al, you only have to ask. Obviously I am usually fairly free during the week, so if you need lifts to/from the 'Clinic or wherever
I hope the rest of the meet went OK given the circumstances, and sorry for not being there. Best wishes, David.

Cheers guys for the texts, PM's and calls.
As I said to Sticky last night, I can only be pragmatic about the incident.
If I'd been looning then I'd feel a right prat, but as Sticky says (and confirmed by Simon who was behind) the conditions on that right hander (if my memory serves) went from gritted OK on the Lee side of some trees (and a small incline) to packed slushy ice immediately after... As I'd been struggling with grip from those RE070's and had Sean with me, I'd backed right off and let the four other cars go ahead... I couldn't have been doing more than 25-30 around the bend (again if memory serves).. and the backend just went.. tried some nifty twiddling, but after a couple of Fishtails went 180 into the wall.
I'd need to check if the gritting did stop after the corner as I'm not sure if there's any recourse I can take with the local council . I'll give Chris a ring.
The panel damage looks bad as the impact was directly on the offside rear corner. The front took a small knock on the small ditch before the wall so I'll need a new bumper, splitter & headlight. The boot, offside light cluster, bumper, rear offside panel & Spoiler will need replacing.. Not sure about the wheel or alignment.. but she drove fine on the way home (though I could smell some exhaust fumes so the exhaust will need looking at).
Just got it booked in with my insurance's approved dealer.. Alton Cars in Leeds.. Anyone used them??? I'm taking it in today.. so things are moving quickly..
Again. Thanks for all the offers of help etc... Simply the best bunch of guys and no mistake!!!
Al.

Yup, that's right. Top bunch of guys, as Ian will confirm, I'm sure.
The exhaust fumes are very porbably just being pulled back towards the car after the aerodynamic 'restyling', you get the same effect in a van if you drive with the back doors open. Disrupted airflow crating all sorts of odd swirls and low pressure areas.
...hopefully...

Thanks mate.. I was going to look back for Ian's post to check as I did recognise the name.. I've just checked and he did have it done there.. I've got the managers name, some common ground (Ian's car) and I belive Sticky did some work for them...
Either way, if Ian was happy then I'm very confident I'll get the same job done..
Good point Andy.. It did come and go... and there is a new air brake system on the right with a few feet of plastic causing some 'slight' disruption. Plus the boot lid popped and I couldn't get it down, so was strapped down courtest of Simon meaning the now dead spoiler would have cause some disruption.
Photos to follow this afternoon(ish)..

Hiya mate
As said in the PM, sorry to hear about what has happened!
even in the cops do pull you, once you explain that its on the way to the garage they should not give you any bother!
Hope its a speedy fix so that you're back on the road ASAP.
Cheers

Al, the foglight covers didn't fall out in the crash did they It would be a shame if they did and were undamaged, and someone of low morals happened upon them and didn't return them to you
Does that sound mercenary

Alan, if it's any consolation, and a different beast to yours I know, but after my crash last year in the old car, I was more than happy with the repair
taken straight after the crash, about 15mph into the car in front
same time, from the front, looked a mess at the time, but after a stip down and the welding up of a new front section, new bonnet, wing and some door trim, it came out better than new again. Even got a brand new set of driving lights out of it
See you soon m8, hopefully try to make it over for your meet at the end of the month
chris.

Thanks Chris.. The guys at Alton appear to real stars and I'm sure the repair will be a top job..
as is Simon who'se just reported that he's been to the site and notes that no gritting has been done on that stretch...where other parts of the road were gritted I just need to get a picture now to prove that....anyone with a camera going that way? I'll be over there tomorrow afternoon..
He also recovered the fog light cover and will return it shortly.. He has morals a plenty ... and Seat Leon that it won't fit..
Cheers Simon.. you're a star..
