What else would you expect me to do?

How are these people to be identified? I dont think this is so easy. Islam teaches that the greatest enemies of Islam are within, never a truer word spoken. I, personally, view this type of religious extremism, in Islam or any other faith, as akin to a cancer, in the way that it is hidden, but also spreads.

Just my opinion of course, but I do believe that generalisations in this area are wrong and will only cause more problems. Look at some of the comments just on here?

It does appear that many people are very happy to use this to just have a pop. That is bound to get peoples' backs up in response (perhaps the desired response?)

Would you not agree that, in the past, the reputation of football supporters has been sullied by a few hooligans? This situation has some parallels, in my opinion.

FWIW, I do not believe that people should get so offended by some cartoons, certainly not to react with violence, or even to threaten violence. Islam is big enough to take this sort of thing on the chin.

I do believe however, that a lot of Muslims (me included) are feeling quite defensive about their faith right now and have to swallow hard to be able to take a lot of criticism. Young muslims for instance are being politicised by this and other events you see on the media, this just adds fuel to the fire.

Not sure what the end will be.

Just my tuppence

Asif
Thank you for that level headed reply Asif, now maybe this debate can continue without insults.

Somthing wrong there I think.

Exactly. Show a picture or video footage of a group of British people burning the Muslim flag, or similar. ******* hell, they'd self combust with rage, claiming Racisim.

Why do we let different faiths say what the hell they like without question. "It's our right to freedom of speech" they always say. Great, fine, but don't sh@t the bed when you hear something you don't like.

Plus, if your that insulted to what we Britains, living in Britain think about your religion, well, there's only one real answer isn't there??? Fcukoff back to your own country, and leave us, a nation of racists to get on with our sad little racist lifes.

Well said that man.

I don't know if anyone knows that the actual cartoons were originally published in Denmark about four months ago and only now start to offend people.

It's kind of like 'that Rushdie book' where almost everyone who was offended hadn't actually read it. If they had actually bothered to read the thing they would have surely dropped off long before they would have gotten wound up by it. It was rubbish.

P.S. I think this " " smiley should be banned as it could cause offence...

why is it that a Muslim , of whichever denomination he/she should come from, is allowed to extend their religous beliefs into the Western country's? show *their* flag of *their Nation* with no problem ,... but I for instance, as an ENGLISHMAN ( albeit of Irish extraction), is thought of INSTANTLY of being RACIST by showing /wearing a symbol of the George Cross? if i were a scot , it would be fine for me to fly the flag, if i were welsh( thank god im not...ooops, sorry ,, racist remark!)id be ok flying the 'dragon.. etc etc.. but as an Englishman living in my own land, i am being *Intolerable* to OTHERS??
if *I* were to be in a Muslim country i would be 'expected' ( and WOULD , as a matter of courtesy) to follow certain criteria in as much as respecting the holy sites, the religious beliefs etc... why is it that 'THEY' cannot in OUR COUNTRY???
and WE have to accomodate them rather than THEM RESPECTING US ,after all, its THEM that are 'Johnny Foreigner' here NOT ME!

sure beats the hell outta me!!!

very true , fella.... VERY TRUE... but my point being , why are we in our own counrty having to 'cow-tow' to the 'whims ' of others?
in a nut shell , the governments of the Western world in general are now $hit-scared of offending ANYONE
, yet 'we'( the indigenous species) of this country ..... are made to 'feel' outcast... where -as , in America.. if you DIDNT 'fly the flag' yuor frowned upon ....the whole 'ethos' of being *politically correct* is forging divides in the Human Race.. and that , AFTER ALL is said and done , is what we are.. a RACE of peoples.. you dont see two cats (or dogs) fighting each other just because they are a *different* colour to each other......

oh the hypocrisy....

I'm christian, but would not call myself an overly religious person. I can listen to the entire bible being ridiculed, the creationism theory slated etc and take it with a pinch of salt. Thats a level of acceptance i have grown up with...

The whole anti-islam thing is ridiculous i'll grant that, mainly beacuse islam 'figureheads' in the media now are insane ****** like Abu hamza, who in no way represents islam, just a distorted sickness. I'll admit i've grown a hatred for people of his type as have many others, and it's because he creates such huge public allegiances with the religion as a whole this hatred spreads, wrongly. I have friends who are muslims that i have grown way apart from because of all this which is f*ckin stupid and should never be the case.....

Institutional racism is clearly apparent in england, and many of us are brainwashed to a degree, but we have a right to be angry in this country. Positive discrimination has reached stupid levels and i'm sick of it, if some of the 'ethnic' groups would adhere to the same political correctness as i have to i.e not feeling obliged to call me a chav, cracker etc..when i give them the courtesy of not calling them racial slurs/stereotypes. Breaking point is uopn us i feel.

I've made this an educated response to a very sensitive issue, so not be branded rash or bluntly racist. If anyone is offended i've been as PC as i can bear, live with it.

If they are not allowed to depict the Prophet Muhammed, how do they know the picture was of him ?

That's the thing though. Christmas plays are being banned in quite a few schools. Why ???? Just in case they insult a Muslim pupil.

Remember the news a few months back. A school banned all jewelry being warn by pupils. Yet, they let a Muslim girl wear hers. Why ??? because it was part of her religion. Yet, another Catholic girl was told to take off the cross she had on a chain round her neck. Why ??????? because it was jewelry. She even proved that she went to church every week, yet it was deemed by the school to be a non-religious piece of jewelry ????? WTF ??

If you want to make a lot of school girls racist, ban something, yet let a Muslim girl not adhere to the ban cos of "Religion". How much do you think all of the girl pupils hate that Muslim girl now ???????

Anther big thumbs up to the Political correctness w@nkers. Well done

What does "freedom of the press" actually mean in reality? What is the purpose of printing satirical/political cartoons?

The UK (and much of western Europe) has a history of printing satirical cartoons to put into relief realities of the world around us and make us reflect on it. Often that satire is cruel and virtually no-one is immune from the satirists savage pen. Prime Ministers, MP's, national sportsmen/women, the Royal family, the Pope/church etc have all been targets over centuries. I don't know if the muslims in other countries are aware of that, they might think that the Prophet is being singled out.

I have not seen the cartoons in question. Whilst it does seem that Islam wants a special exemption from the satirists pen from showing depictions of the Prophet, we also can't get away from the fact that it is specifically an issue that many/all believe in and it will cause offence if it's simply ignored.

For the record there were many Christians who were deeply offended by The Life of Brian (I think some Catholic countries banned it altogether, as did many states in the US).

Cartoonists have the "freedom" to express themselves, but they also have a responsibility too. In reality this means they do self censor, they don't go beyond certain limits because they also know that if they abuse the freedom they have and offend significant portions of their readership, then it is likely to do harm to themselves, their publication and more importantly the issue they are trying to highlight.

I would much prefer Muslim political satirists to create their own cartoons to be shown alongside the "western" cartoons rather than censor the political satirists we already have.
