I reckon a 7 would be cheaper if anything.

An 80s benz is probably better engineered mind you.

R5 Turbo's start at about 8k. Just a little way off £300-400

Another vote for an early Mondeo. I picked up a 1.8LX a while back for under £300. L reg, 70k on the clock. It's a bit battered but it's perfect for a cheap runaround.

2nd a Honda Accord.

After crashing my Scoob this time last year, I had to be a cheap run about until I got the insurance money in. A year later and I'm still driving a Honda Accord, albeit a 2nd one (Unfortunately had a prang with the first - not my fault I'll have you know!!).

The 2nd one is not as good as the first, but one things for certain they have been as reliable has hell and, although a tad slow, they'll get you to and fro in comfort and ease!

The first one I got was a 2.2i AWS model, H-reg, fully kitted with leather, cruise, A/C, sunroof, etc.. Did the job very nicely and would have gone on for a long time if I hadn't pranged it and the insurance company writing it off!

2nd one is a K-reg 2.0i auto. Seriously slow, but reliable again.

I paid £600 for each, but you'd get them cheaper with a bit more negotiation and time on your hands.

530i, like our drift bitch. you know you want too..... eight days out now, and she's still in one piece, and purrs like a big bavarian kitten even though she has 218,000 miles on the clock. Cost £175.

In under budget (do I win £180) and it ticks all the boxes...

Gary, just a thought but wouldn't buying a near dead pimpmobile be asking for potential financial disaster?

The thought is Karl its a throw away car. If I buy something for £400 and it lasts a month it will have cost less than the scoob considering insurance etc too. If it lasts 2 month i'm quids in, 3 months im really happy, 4 and i'm over the moon.

First thing that goes wrong and costs more than £100 to put right it gets scrapped.

Seems like financial sense to me

Ps .........I fancy a 3 series touring too

And they don't go for 8k then?

A lot of people seem to call the R5 GT Turbo the R5 Turbo for some bizarre reason. It's not like the cars are that similar!

btw the R5 Turbo and the R5 Turbo 2 had 150bhp as standard

Well they are both turbocharged versions of a Renault 5... not exactly chalk and cheese!

I am now the proud owner of a rover 420SLi. Lovely outstanding car in white , 2 ltr engine, bodywork looks ok under the dirt, interior ok too. Even got a CD player ....... Engine very clean and started first time.
Didn't drive it but my mate who is selling it has been running round in it the last couple of days. He has looked after it for years and took it in part ex a week ago.
Cant remember how much MOT it has but it will have a year when I pick it up. Nearly new tyres all round, jobs a good-un......

Will post a few pics up when I get her, but I dont want you lot getting all jealous now

Full progress report to follow .......

Gary
