Best 'sleeper' that got the better of you..
Haha, I wasnt beaten... but I was matched both in straight line performance and around the famous twisties in a c250bhp Classic by a claimed c200bhp Nova.
I consider myself to be a pretty good driver and that I knew how to get the absolute best out of my Impreza... I also believe that the guy I was up against knew how to get the best out of the Nova which explained the way it clung to the back of me for the best part of 20 mins.
The traction wouldnt be an issue IMO, as long as his car was set-up properly he could easily put his power down without worrying about spinning away. We didnt drop below 40mph, which is just about where the 4WD advantage of the Impreza becomes something that hinders straight line performance.
Even with the Prodrive Handling Pack, I wasnt pulling miles at corners.. which goes some way to prove that the Impreza isnt the back road king that some people believe it is. IMO.
Cheers,
Grant

You serious? What 'fettling' have you done to it - can't just be the obligatory remap.
i got overtaken on the M25 by a cadburys creme egg
i kid you not i think it was a promotional thing based on a smart car and i was only in the 406 diesel but talk about a double take
does that count as a sleeper

Pretty rapid and beautiful to drive, very very comfortable and classy place to be in, smooth as silk.
Didn't attract any attention whatsoever, good or bad. Very anonymous.
It is and it isn't a sleeper....
My wife's Zafira GSi with Regal Stage 2 - 250bhp and 301 llb/ft.
Can't put it down below 40mph ...scrabble, scrabble ...but after that it's enough to blitz standard Type R's, 172's, 3.0 litre X-types etc. I just know they're pig sick when a mere van picks them off with driver and six passengers on board.
In lots of ways it's more fun than my Scoob.
Call me mad/sad, but I've even thought about getting a Daihatsu Sirion Rally 4 with NOS for the ultimate OAP sleepermobile.

There used to be a black 1970's mini in the West midlands with a honda integra dc2 type R lump in it, i used to see it race at a sunday racing meet in Merry Hill, the noise it made when it came on cam was unreal. I was told it was pushing 220bhp @ 9000rpm.... "In a stripped mini"
