Deposit Sent - Plus Croft Opportunity
Hi Dave, Al et al
Deposit put in the post today - just to confirm me as a Blyton regular (tarmac and gravel!!)
Took (and passed) my BARS test at the weekend at Chris Birkbeck Rally School at Saltburn - so I now have licence to enter stage rallies. Time to cast my eye over the rally car ads - might just have a new toy to play with at Blyton - which as you might know is regularly used for testing by the rally teams.
Question for you - do you think the WYIOC guys would be interested in a full track day at Croft. Reason I ask is that for the third year in a row I am joining the Derbyshire and Durham RS Owners Club track day on the 9th July. £100 for the day, ability grouped in the morning with the possibility of open pit lane in the afternoon. £20 per extra driver, passengers £5. There are usually 4 or 5 scoobs running, and there are planty or marques as well as the fords. It is great value, very relaxed with lots of track time esp later in the afternoon as people head home.
Give it some thought - but the event gets booked up early so probably need to apply by end of Feb latest. I have entry forms if needed.

You can learn a lot about car control in a lesser powered car, especially in the wet. When we did it he used BMW Compacts for the RWD, but I can see why the FWD Mini would be good. A very competent little chassis, and ideal to highlight the difference on the road between 4WD and 2WD. You will be aching to get into the Scoob though If he still uses the truncated lap (cutting out the section where the track entrance is) then see if you can beat my 59.8s Howard did a 58.9 on the same day and IIRC my wet lap was 1:03

Spufus, not too late whilst there's spaces in the list I'll add you as unconfirmed if you'd like to sort me a deposit (details in post #1)
As for tuition, I can heartilly recommend it, but the £150 needs to be split between a few and since the 1st trackday there hasn't been many takers, even though those whom did it were very pleased with it. I could also do with knowing a few weeks before the event so I can arrange for a pro driver to be there, otherwise we'll be babysat by a mechanic for the day.

I'll skip the tuition if there's only me.

Speaking of deposits Are any of the WYIOC faithful gonna cross my palm
Don't know why the vid links aren't working. I'm at work at the mo' so can only try them on a crappy PC with NetNanny spoiling the fun so they don't work for me either, but they were Quicktime MP4's, so as long as you have QT they should play.

JAKbauuer24, Ill add you to the unconfirmed and do a tally on those expressing interest for tuition. If there's 4 or more then the cost becomes reasonable (£150/4=£37.50 each).
I believe the wyioc.co.uk domain was left to lapse after we secured this WYIOC Events forum here on SNet. Phil (MadGrip) whom graciously hosted it for us now runs his own BBS called UK Performance, although the url change recently and I haven't updated my bookmarks so I can't point you towards it.

I've been in touch with Maddy a few times to try and secure the address as it lapsed this month. Unfortunately his reccomendations on what to do didn't work and I've not been able to get back in touch....
I have been in touch with a SNET based hoster who's doing us a good deal.. so I will buy the URL again when it becomes available soon and get the site hosted again..
I'll be posting another thread regarding this as we'll need to have a front end to put on.... More of this later, but rest assured, work is ongoing in the back ground.
BTW.. Phil has the .com address.

TUITION
We now have 3 people wanting tuition on the trackday. ScottK, spufus and JAKbauuer24. With three the cost would obviously be £50 each, but if there is anyone else would like to make up a 4th it would be £37.50, and a bargain at that.
To fill in a few details, it involves the tutor passengering in your car with you (obviously) and giving direction to hopefully hone your skills and make you quicker but safer. With you permission the tutor may ask to drive your car to demonstrate what it is capable of when everything is done correctly, and believe me, this can be an eye opener. If we are lucky enough to secure Howard for the day you will benefit from over 35 years of international rally driving experience, but any of his colleagues are capable of furthering your abilities.
Before I contact Howard and book a tutor, can I ask that the 3 already interested confirm their intentions and place a deposit for the day (if you haven't already), and can I ask if there is A.N.Other to make the four.
Cheers, PM's also sent

Thoughts... " I'd be braking by now... I'd certainly be braking by NOW... Holy ****!!!"
Well worth the asking price.
