Speeding - points and ban?
I was caught a couple of months back doing 99mph on the A1. Pleaded guilty to the court by writing and I got 5 points an a £100 fine (no ban!).
Was rather pleased with that, and it wasn't my 1st offence!
Nick.

For fixed and mobile speed cameras, most motoring solicitors will advise (off the record) you not to reply to the NIP, just ignore it and dont contact the police. you get a reminder a month later and after 6 months they cant touch you. I know loads of people that have done this and got away with it. if they do follow up they can do you for failure to identify a driver which is 3 points but insurance companies dont like it. They will also try and do you in court for speeding too but you are not obliged to attend court, your solicitor will represent you if need be. Ths they can't identify you as they dont know what you look like...something like that anyway. Whether they follow up depends on where in the country you get caught apparenly, which police force etc. it's a risk but everyone i know that has done has escaped. its a risk so seek legal advice from a motor offences solicitor, dont waste your money on a normal solicitor. These things change all the time as cases are won and lost so check it out thoroughly.

Good site for advice is http://www.pepipoo.com/
General law on fines/points is: http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Accused_...eedVSFines.htm
extract:
UK Law, fines and points.
Known officially in the UK as "EXCEEDING SPEED LIMIT", this table shows baseline penalties you can expect. It's correct as of December 2004. Each case will be looked at individually, to assess factors such as time of day, road type and conditon, weather conditions etc. The fine is now also based upon the financial circumstances of the offender, leading to payment within 12 months.
Offence Fine Costs Penalty Points
up to 15mph over the posted limit £44 £30 3
16mph to 25mph over the posted limit £45-£100 £30 4
26mph to 35mph over the posted limit £45-£200 £30 5-6
36mph or more over the posted limit £67-£300 £30 Ban 1 month to 12 months
The current guidelines from the Association of Chief Police officers (ACPO) are:
Limit Fixed Penalty Summons
20 mph 25 mph 35 mph
30 mph 35 mph 50 mph
40 mph 46 mph 66 mph
50 mph 57 mph 76 mph
60 mph 68 mph 86 mph
70 mph 79 mph 96 mph
So up to 79mph you should be just told off, 79-95mph is a fixed penalty and 96mph+ is a mandatory summons to appear in court.

a magistrate decides your fate
one guy on another forum got off without a ban totally
he got 9 points and hefty fine, a couple of hundread.
But that was because he had a clean record, arrived well dressed (suited and booted) and got a lawyer and his employer in court to say he couldnt do his job without his car.

i got done recently 89 in fifty, 39 over the limit, i have retired early so no excuse i need the car for work, basicaly i pleaded mitigation and honed my income and outgoings down really tight, result in hartlepool mag court was i didnt attend or have a soliciter 6 points and a £50 fine so a result there.
my advice is get all the mitagating circumstances you have got. get your income and outgoings honed right down and the best of british to you, you have took in on the chin, drive car like this and you will come into contact with the law, as for the righteous brothers who never speed in there cars good luck to you i am impressed\\\ but does it not get boring.
