Hi all,
One of the guys from Hants Subaru has just been other to give his diagnosis and verdict.
Good news its not the bottom end apprently, the noise is coming from no3 cylinder. The oil also smells stongly of petrol so another indicator. They wont know what it is till they get it in workshop, but looks better than it did at least.
Apparently no3 cylinder going is a common problem because of the fuel rail and it beign the furthest away.
I'm going to get it trailored to the garage in the morning to see what extent of damage is.
Steve

Going to invest in the inline fuel rail mod now and also invest in group of decent gauges so can be aware of stuff more in future.

I am very pleased with it, it looks great, and as I said before the service was excellent
I would highly recommend them.I looked into getting it from Scoobyclinic but it would have cost more as the gaskets were much more expensive
and it was too far away to collect so with the postage it wasn't the best option for us, also not sure you get the new bolts

Whats everyones opinions on the rebuild options
1/ rebuild using STi 9 crank etc with forged pistons and current v5 heads/ turbo - get a remap.
2/ build using a 2.5 short block bottom end, and current v5 heads/ turbo - get a remap.
next thing is STi 8 intercooler or go with a FMIC
hopefully my clutch/gearbox should be up to the power hike and Turbo should be sufficient without upgrades
fueling mods so it doesnt run lean are my main concerns, with reliability over ;power gains being main rebuild criteria I guess
While its out considering putting on headers
Your opinions welcomed

They're only £75.00 from APi proper job too. Gaskets to fit less than £20.00 carriage is £10.00 add VAT.
£175 + + + indeed someones having a laugh.

I was recommended Roger Clarke and compared it to Scoobyclinic and it worked out altogether cheaper than them, so went for it.
Oh well you live and learn

I learnt a lesson with our Williams clio we used to have, it was great running it at 190 brake and 50 nitrous jets on top of that but, after 4 engine rebuilds, 2 gearboxes, 3 clutches, 1 engine fire and about 10 sets of driveshafts you know you have left the path of common sense
