Lol, bollocks is it a sport!!! Unless we're talking reeling in 500lb Marlins in the Pacific Ocean for four hours. Again, the fishing we're familiar with in this country is (or can be) competitive, but not physically exerting to any meaningful extent. Fishing is a passtime, end of chat!

A couple of years ago, I carried nearly ALL my fishing tackle half a mile to the local pond, only to find out it was closed season. So I carried it all home again.

Again im a summer fisherman i dont take it serious and i think of it as a hobbie, but if you are a match fisherman and spend thousands on tackle and win cash prizes then i think you can call it a sport!

No no no!!! Why does the amount of money you invest in something determine whether it's a sport?! Are they required to run up and down the riverbank? No! Are they required to haul their fish over an obstacle course? No! It's a hobby as you say, pure and simple, with an occasional competitive element (to distract from the boredom, probably, lol!)
