Is Fishing A Sport??
carrying on from the "is darts a sport" thread.
Is fishing a sport, I say yes as there is match fishing... opinions please. Scotty |
NO
F*cking hate it!! would be on my list if i ever did that Room 101 program! cruel and pointless! ps fishing for the purpose of food is fine! |
:) I like going fishing - it's very relaxing. :D
|
blood sport that should obviously be banned...;) - However theres no class division so its unlikley....:D
|
is fishing for compliments included?:freak3:
|
:lol1:
|
no no - not a sport
just an excuse to sit and drink beer and sleep outdoors. why not just go pub and sleep at home :D |
dunno if i would class it as a 'sport'
it looks **** but on the other hand i really like captain birds-eye products :wonder: |
i used to fish on a regular basis
and i would say it's not a sport (even though i think it is classed as one) not sure what you would define it as though if not a sport (cue some wiseass saying boring) it's not a pub game like darts.:D pastime i guess |
Saw quite a few fisherman sitting by the river in the rain yesterday.
You have to wonder how bad their home life is when that is preferable to sitting at home in the warm! |
Hence the term sport fish, and it isnt a tench :)
|
If darts is a sport so is fishing.
|
And PC games :D
|
Getting eaten by a shark would make it fairly sporting ;)
And some forms of fishing are more sporting than others - i.e. require the participant to actually move in a physically exerting way such as falling into the river, slipping off the harbour wall, putting up the umbrella :D |

any sport has blood in it Mart |
sport is defined as physical exertion and competition..no mention of blood letting
|
im a warm weather fisherman myself. peaceful surroundings, birds tweating, my very own interesting company and the excitement of hooking into that monster of the deep.:) suits me.
|
yes its a sport and most enjoyable to old chap
|
Of course it's a sport. Wrestling a 1500lb marlin on 120lb class gear, while strapped into a boat with 2 x 300HP V16 diesels, is no walk in the park you know!

so where do you get the blood sports bit from?? of the fish i,ve caught, i dont see blood running from them at all, unless theve been dispatched with a priest:D Mart:D |
Not a sport ..
It's an art |
I happened to be channel surfing a while back and tripped across a "enthusiatic" fishing program...they were flying across a lake in a cessna to get to a fishing hole with lots of fancy fish.
I thought "boring" and was about to switch over... but then..... The plane crashed!!!! I kid you not! The engine made a few unhealthy rattles, then the pilot started shouting, camera went shakey, and before you know it, all you could see was trees and bushes as it crashed into a forrest! Best bit of fishing I've ever seen on TV :D:D :thumb: (yes they did all survive unscathed) |
It may or may not be a sport but it sure is as boring as fook. :D
|
:lol1:
maybe you should try it, Mr Gambino ? |
Maybe I shouldn't ;)

Gonna have to start fishing again sometime. |
It is a sport and an art.
I fish only for the pot and the fish is despatched rapidly and painlessly. wez sti, You say its alright to eat the fish which are caught, but have you thought about the fish dying of slow suffocation when they have been trawled up. And that they are often filetted while still alive? How does that compare with a bit of coarse fishing where the fish are returned alive. Les |
