I had a 987 Boxster S, brilliant car, sold it because I was able to get a 997 Carrera S cabrio so thought 'Why not?' well to be honest I preferred the Boxster. It was a more involving drive, steering and brakes were more responsive and it sounded much better..the 997's extra power was lovely though, loadsa torque.
So a terrible year for me...
996 C4S was too uncomfortable, but was a nicer drive than the 997 IMHO
987 S was great but I don't really have room in my life for a 2 seater.
997 S has too many buttons on the centre console, and steering not as 'feelsome' as 996...
Basically 911's aren't the worlds best car (for me) so I'm still hunting...

Howdy Deep! Just been working hard, no time for internet BS!
Being 6'2 and with long legs I just couldn't get my legs under the damn steering wheel on the 996..when I drove it I was always spread legged and on long trips my left ankle suffered from it's positioning.
I know now that the seats can be lowered a little, so I may yet own another 996.

Curious comments...... Personally find the 996 more comfortable than the Boxster
Sitting position in the Boxster is nice for sure, but its certainly more cramped than a 996 (more legroom in the latter).
Anyway - if you find a 996 too uncomfortable thats bl**dy hard luck - IMHO your missing driving a great car

Not sure if you are referring to my comments, mine are made after owning a 996, 987 and 997. The simple fact that the 987/997 steering column is adjustable for rake and reach makes it far easier to get comfortable than the reach only 996, the effective cabin space in the 987 was greater than the 996. Apart from that I agree, 996 is a great drive (for short-***** ) .

I can never get comtorable in Boxster Seats for anything more than a short journey. Had no problems and was snug as a bug in 996 C2 and 996 GT3 seats though as well as pretty much every other Porsche i've driven. Are there many different options for the seats in Boxsters (987, not been in the new model), i think all the ones i've been in have had the standard ones in.

Went to buy one in the Spring, convinced all we had to do was turn up, test drive it, love it and pay for it.
Too slow, too small, too expensive for what it offered - and yes, we knew the list price before visiting the dealer... Bought a new STi UK PPP and spent part of the Summer in Germany scaring Boxster drivers... Fun!

Unfortunately this BBS like a million others has a soul based around debating one-sided car comparisons (eg vs.M3 or vs. 911 etc etc)........... and ultimately it degenerates with some crass comment(s) about a Porsche, a BMW or whatever. Having been on this BBS for 5 yrs or more......... I find it tiresome - thats all.
Porsche, BMW, Subaru, Mitsubishi etc - they are all interpretation's on what a performance car is/should be. I enjoyed my P1.......... I just grew up and for the last 4 years haven't been able to better a Porker as an overall package.
Horses for courses - you might be able to beat a Porker in a straight drag or maybe on a rally course, but YOU like many others ultimately still desire the former ??
Odd isn't it - perhaps there is more to a car than a 0-60 time and perhaps now you understand why I YAWN at comments like this....

If you want something comfortable get a big Merc or similar, i drove a Boxster all the way from the north trip of Skye to Manchester in one hit, i'm quite a big bloke but i did not find it that uncomfortable.
i cant compare to a 996 though 'cos i aint driven one.
Lovely cars though

It was so small I couldn't get in or out easily. It was a non starter really. And I was disappointed with the performance. Loved the handling, roadholding, brakes, build quality etc, but as an overall package it wasn't right for us.
In the end, my Wife and I realised we really wanted a 911, but couldn't find one we fancied for Boxster S money. The STi was a better option and being our 7th new Impreza Turbo/WRX, was a known quantity. We also bought an ex dem Saab 95 Estate with (210bhp) Hirsch tuning pack, so we probably aren't ready for only 2 seats just yet.
Cheers

Get yourself a 993TT - I cant fault it.
the car is now 10 years old, and I am going to change soon. I want a car with a warranty as if anything goes on my 993TT it will cost a fortune.
I have seen several 996 C4S for arounf £45K upwards - they seem very tempting. Or even a mark 2 GT3 for £50k.
Or should I go for a 996TT. Any advice chaps?

GT3's are lovely and fast - but if you are living with one as a daily car then I'd avoid it... remember hard suspension and no traction control can make winter months interesting.
The 996 TT seems an obvious choice...... prices are only modestly more than a C4S and it'll have 4wd, traction control and is a sensible daily car as well as 450bhp.
Out of interest, whats the spec on the 993 TT you have - PM me if you like.
Cheers,

Thanks for comments gastro.
The 993TT is a '95 car, polar silver, 73K miles. FPMDSH, MINT condition. Standard apart from techart silencers and back box (£2k!), sounds awesome.
Had a look a the cayman S today - disappointed. Drives very well, but for £50K - just doesnt feel or look special enough. A used 996 either C4S,TT or GT3 seems far more car for the money

Have to say if it's just a worry about warranty I'd hang onto the 993TT, particularly as you know the car, it has FMDSH and say it's mint. Any dealer is going to want at least £5-10k out of any deal you make, which pays for a lot of repairs.
Plus, even though I prefer the 996 as a daily driver, the 993TT is a real classic and just looks and feels special in a way that little in the 996 range this side of a GT3-RS does.
Gary.

Are you sure a GT3 has no traction control? I thought that was the GT2.
Agree about dealers wanting to make £5-10k out of a deal - one reason why I certianly wouldnt go to a official porker centre - an independent will not be as greedy.

Its the one thing that would stop me having either as a daily drive.
