If he is clever/lucky David will do them.
Not a big fan of powdercoating as it can chip/lift easy when you do the bolts up even with washers. We poder coat at work and this adhesion is always an issue on Zinc alloy/alum parts.

It is if you dont use specialist stuff. we powder coat ally and mag crankcases, cyl heads and engine covers at work with no probs. I have just chrome plated some scoob cam covers as well and they look superb.

LOL

Parts off to various places now for powder coating, so waiting for them to come back.

Bucket load of fuel stuff, breathers, and pipes ordered, which should arrive tomorrow.
Some cambelt stuff due to arrive today/tomorrow
Still a lot of wiring to do
Headers, up pipe, turbo and downpipe to sort out
Fit it all again
Then start the thing and map it

Still on target, thanks to a lot of help from friends like David, Mark, Pat, Andy, and a few others local to me.

Good news and bad news today.

Good news
Few boxes arrived with cambelt stuff, load of fuel line/breather/turbo/clutch piping etc.

Bad news
My inlet manifold, rockers covers, and brackets we made were sent up north for powder coating in candy apple red. Gauranteed next day before 1pm. Tracking number says its been delivered. Who they were sent to hasnt got them

Got some tracking down to do tomorrow morning

Fitted the diff carriers last night with the uprated bushes, so car is nearly capable of rolling out the garage for 1st time in 5 months!

Big weekend of stuff today, building up to the mega weekend next week.

Top marks to the following so far

David - just being a listening post and helping with stuff i dont have patience for
Pat - for sorting a few special electrical bits
Andy - again a sounding post, and helping sort a few things out.
Matt/Olly @ RCMS - loan of some kit, and their new scoop duct

lastly and quite importantly

Mark @ Lateral - who has answered god knows how many calls from me, saying "i need this buy then, that by then, this by then, etc etc"

Most that know me, know i lack patience with my own stuff, and cant stand failure of any sort, and every single one of the guys above have done everything true to my request.

Cheers lads

Steven

Yep, as David says, not chilled anymore!

Lets just say, things havent gone to plan.

Eventually tracked the fecking parcel down which should have been in the hands of the intended recipient by Friday. It wont be with them until today, most likely now making it impossible to get the powder coating done before the end of the week.

David has virtually wired up the DCCD stuff, just need the LED's and a selector pot, then its done.

MSD unit is installed, which took 10 minutes tops, just need to do the wiring now, which cant be done until the engine in, which cant go in, as i am still waiting for stuff from the powder coating places.

New power steering pots in, on second attempt. 1st attempt was done minus intercooler, which then wouldnt fit.

Changed bonnet scoop as a trial fit, to see whether it looks right.

An attempt was made to sort the additional fuel line needed from the tank. However, we ended up knackering a lid and pump bracket in doing so, so back to square one on that one.

I manged to make the car a rolling chasis again yesterday, so at least we could roll it out of the garage for more space.

We got the cambelt on, and the engine timed up, guess i have now done too many cambelts, as we put the belt on, and it wasnt a tooth out (belt has no markings). So thats one big positive.

We took some pics, but i couldnt be ar5ed putting them up last night.

The following is still to do:

Finish DCCD install
Finish MSD install
Finish building engine (once parts come back from powder coating)
Obtain turbo, up pipe, down pipe, screamer pipe and exhaust
Get above ceramic coated and headers
Repair driveshaft
Install rear diff
Finish additional fuel line supply
Install engine, turbo, echaust etc
Fit intercooler etc

So all in all, i am pretty convinced now it wont be running by next Sunday, unless a miracle happens. I cant devote too much more time to this after this week.

So god knows

Steven what leads are you going to run with your MSD?
I assume you are mounting it on the inlet manifold in the std. 99 position/bolt holes?
Im wondering if std. 98 leads will "do a job"?

Standard 98 leads (new). They were good enough for Andy and Mark last year, so they will do for me.

It wont be mounted on the inlet manifold. The 98 coil pack and leads are designed to go in the middle of the block, so offset to one side and 2 of the leads wont reach.

LOL @ Andy

Graham & Simon, i agree.

Pics from Sunday.

Note car is rolled out of the garage

Belt and idlers on, ready for sorting the cam timing.

A mess (one other reason why i want the car out of the garage)

3 cars, only one working

Dial gauge for finding TDC of number 1 piston

Number 1 at TDC, and dial gauge for the cams is in place, together with timing wheel.

Dial gauge sat on the buckets, ready to measure

Job done and dusted

All sorts of wiring courtesy of DW for the DCCD

Been out and cleaned the power steering pump tonight (covered in grit form blasting), also painted it. Tried sorting the clutch pivot arm out, OSGiken clutch, but i am not happy, so tried to find a different slave cylinder, then realised its still north of the border

Powered the electrics up on the car, to see if the STI dash works, as its a straight plug in, but not sure if wires are different. All lights appeared ok, and fuel gauge started moving up.

Highlighted a problem elsewhere, which i need sorted before the first drive.

Will keep ploughing on.
