Not really, if someone has a paticular question or needs a paticular part I can try and help. Generally once someone has their box apart they will see what they need to know, or if someone is having a box build by us, they don't even need to get involved. If someone is buying a kit from us, we make sure they get the right parts for their gearbox.

Paul do you know if the heavier grade of Millers oil has solved the syncro issues people were having? Not had a chance to experiment with mine yet, to damed busy at work, but if the Millers Oil is doing the job properly i'll just get some of that and keep the castrol as a just in case.

Certainly seems to have sovled bob's problem, but other than bob and Alan I've not had any problems, and I've double checked with other people that had synchro kits in the past 6 months or so.

Iv'e had time to have a little bit of an experiment this morning, i have put another litre of Castrol Syntrax into the gearbox to see what effect overfilling will have to my issues.
After a few runs up and down my private test track my first impression is that the point at which the crunch into 3rd happens has shifted up the RPM range. It used to happen at anything over 6Krpm but now only happens if you change at about 6.8Krpm or over.
Secondly the crunch seems to have gone if i change at normal road speeds (even at high rpm) but not if i change quicky (ie drag race style) so im not convinced that there still isn't an issue between my left leg and foot
Thirdly the extra oil in the box seems to have reduced the severity of the crunch by about 50% when it happens.
In day to day driving the box is still great, i think the next step will be to try the Millers Oil that Paul mentioned earlier on in the thread, if that does not solve it, it must be me

On a totally different tack i have taken off the H&S system and replaced it with a 3 inch revolution system this weekend, downpipe is still the same so there is a small 2.5 inch bottleneck at the bottom of the downpipe.
First impression is the car seems to have a little more urgency up the gears due to i think an improved spool up of the turbo. It also seems to be holding about half to one psi more at the top end but not creeping in high gears so i surmise that the revolution flows marginally better than the outgoing H&S setup.
Oh and its alot quiter
Still a nice deep burble on tickover but when you put your foot down the bark has gone, just a nice smooth engine revving insead
Back on the gearbox, i have adjusted the rod on the clutch pedal by one turn to move the bite point further up the pedal to see if that helped the crunch issue but to no avail so i think its Millers Oil next.
Hopefully the parts for my AP 4 pots should arrive from BG Developments early next week so i will try and have them on the car for the shootout at the weekend.

I've not had a chance to do much testing with the Millers oil yet Danny.
The 3rd to 4th change is still *light* compared to the rest of the changes and i'm not sure if it's cured it yet.
It *feels* like it's on the verge of crunching if that can make any sense i.e. it feels as if there is a sight obstruction going from 3rd to 4th, like a small *click*

Yep i get that small obstruction feeling all the time going into third. To be honest im sure i had that feeling on some gears in the OEM box too.

Hi.
Fitted the PPG helical gearkit to my car over the weekend (MY00 Euro import). Replaced the 3rd and 4th gear synchros and the synchros were lapped in... so far no problems. Based on the issues people have faced here, I took the car to various speeds through the gears and no crunching or problems at all. Gears do feel quite notchy but then everything is still bedding in. Still planning to add a better oil to help prevent any issues arising...
Edited to add... Ive also got the replacement selector forks instead of the standard kit.
Cheers

On Sunday and since, i have had a couple of issues obtaining 3rd, which at the moment i am putting down to not having the spring on the linkage to help centre it.
Will see how it goes!

Danny: at the moment just using a cheap running in oil. Plan to change in the not to distant future.
Graham: synchros 1, 3 and 4 were lapped in. Was done to ensure everything matched up (really only decided to do it after seeing the issues being experienced here) in an attempt to reduce any possible problems. Ill add another update when I change the oil.
Cheers

Glad to hear yours is so good, i have still not changed the oil in mine, as its not a problem on a day to day basis. I'm going to try the millers oil when i get round to it.
I have spent most of my recent spare time trying to sort out the adaptor loom for the M800 and also chasing down a mystery vibration from the front left of the car. Current gut feeling says wheel bearings but we will see soon hopefully.
On a Project thread update front, the car now has a set of 304mm AP 4pots and thats about it till Jan when the Motec should be getting mapped, then roll on FMIC time

Well the Motec is in and mapped and have also put on a RCM induction kit now i dont have a MAF sensor , will upload pics at a later date.
I have a nice excel spreadsheet with all the connections needed to make an M800 to MY99/00 adaptor loom now, will hopefully be able to host it in the near future but can email if anyone needs it.
Now i have worked out that my adaptor box does not fit in the OEM positon because its too deep so i need to make up some spacers and get some longer bolts to i can refit the passenger kickpanel and get rid of an expensive bulge under the carpet
Oh and the AP's still arnt right, going to get a new set of bells to try and hunt down the vibration.

Dragging this back from the dead, just had a very successful scooby shootout yesterday. Managed to fix some of the vibration coming from the front end, turned out to be one of the mounting bells for the AP discs had corroded so wouldn't sit flat, there is still a little bit of vibration going on but nowhere near as bad as it used to be, probably aging bushes etc as they have all done 67K now.
Decided to go for the semi stripped out look for the the shootout, as much to get the second set of wheels and tools into the car as anything else, loosing the back seats makes this so much easier!
Ran the day with my new R888's on 205/55/16 profile and a very low fuel load mostly with the fuel light on, quite a bit of NF in the tank too, managed another 4 degrees of ignition advance with no signs of Det on the knock link which helped alot, the engine felt alot silkyer running this much advance too.
Previous Qtr PB was 12.74 @ 105 with a 1.861 60ft (set at elvington)
New Qtr PB is now 12.28 @ 111 with a 1.790 60ft
Does that beat Tims time on this very turbo?????
Oh yes thats still on an STi5 TMIC so more to come when the FMIC and the 550cc injectors go on
Handling circuit not such a great result, only 16th place i think only got two proper runs in before the heavens opened as i over cooked the first one and spun it
Anyway im not too surprised at that really as its still on 67K old standard suspension with only a whitline ARB to help it along.
Note to self, must book some track driving lessons
Full list of times below.
1 12.58@113-1.810 60ft
2 12.62@112-1.900 60ft
3 12.47@109-1.830 60ft
4 13.70@107-2.360 60ft (fluffed launch and bogged it)
5 12.29@116-1.800 60ft
6 12.58@113-1.810 60ft
7 13.07@113-2.000 60ft (mised a gear i think)
8 13.15@105-1.840 60ft (missed a gear again)
9 12.37@110-1.810 60ft
10 12.28@111-1.790 60ft
11 14.61@103-2.600 60ft (test run after adding another deg of advance)
12 12.29@116-1.790 60ft
13 12.56@115-1.890 60ft
14 12.55@109-1.840 60ft
I was running against Stephen on a buch of those last runs, i could have him off the line but by the time i was changing into third he was past me, and moving like a man possessed

Still the same MD304, havent got a clue what it was putting out as it hasn't been on a RR for a while, somewhere about 330-340ish i would have thought. Apparently Mark reckoned Stephen did a 12.18 on his MD304 so i have that to aim for.
#201
Steven did a 12.3 directly behind mine in the same lane at the first SSO, and we were laughing about it as he was waiting to run again...while I was packing up Steven came back round haing run a 12.16 (not a 12.18) I wasn't allowed to run again by the other half who wanted to go home
Still, you need a 118 terminal too

Only 2 MPH off on the other 12.29 run , anyway you were running an HKS fmic at that point wern't you? Surley those nice cool inlet temps should have given you a mighty advantage

ScoobyLive 2007 - Lateral Performance Car - Google Video
A little video someone posted up, Me 'vs' Mr Darley. You can see just how much my car squats on the launch compared to Stephens.

I just realised i never did post the pics of the motec adaptor loom so here we go.
The Gold Box
The Mess
Looks better the further away you get
The finished Product
Alot of head scratching and testing went into this but all worth it in the end, still need to get the oil temp and pressure sensors connected up too.

After my little outing at curborough last year i realised the car was suffering from fuel surge quite badly so in my true fashion of doing something about it alot later (almost a year later!) i saw one of theese Hyperflow in tank surge tanks come up sencond hand in the FS section
Hyperflow Surge Tank
I had previously only head of the really expensive Sti and MRT ones so for 70 quid i thought this would be worth a shot as it looked as though it was built along the same lines as the really expensive ones.
The parcel arrived promptly and all i can say is after i have looked at what the kit consists of then i would be gutted if i had paid the Sti money for essentially the same thing!
So this weekend gone with a bit of spare time on my hands i set about fitting it.
The pump out and the Surge tank bits.
Fuel pump and float stripped off the bracket ready for drilling.
Oh yes you need to drill two holes in the fuel pump bracket to mount the surge tank, i decided to tap them to M6 as well to add a bit of extra security.
All fitted up now
Not entirley convinced about it myself as the sock is a very tight fit in the bottom of the rubber tank and you have to bend it quite a bit to get it to sit inside.
Fitted it all back up this time with a nice smear of RTV around the tank gasket so it dosent smell of fuel all the time and took it for a quick blast.
ALl i can surmise at the moment is it hasn't made it any worse, i wont know for sure if its made any real difference till i get it back out on track again.
Strangely enough i never seem to encounter the fuel surge problem at scoobyshoout and never on the road so it might take a while before i can say yes or no definativley.
Scratch that, it WILL take a while
Unless anyone has some spare spaces at Curborough for me to come and test it

I've been having a little tinker with the car again, got a nice MXL display the last time i was in the states to replace the PSI3 SECS unit that does not work with the Motec. Just bodged up a little ally bracket for it at the moment and mounted it infront of the centre vents.
Got both the oil temp and pressure sensors left over from the PSI3 unit hooked up to the Motec and i can now display them on the MXL dash.
Also got the wideband displayed there too
Got to do a bit more investigation to get the speed and gear readouts working properly and then thats all done.
When i was taking the TMIC off to get to the oil temp sensor i found that i have blown a hole in it
it looks as though this STi5 TMIC has five blanked off tapped holes in the end tank and i have managed to blow the one under the TB clean out.
One assumes due to boost pressure it has gone out and not into the engine!
I think i would have known about a piece of metal that big being injested into the engine if it had gone in.
This now explains why the car started stalling when coming back to idle at a juction a few weeks ago, anyway blanked it back up with a sawn off bolt and some threadlock so hopefully it will be good for a while.
