4 or 5 doors?

At long last somebody who has also noticed this.
My 5 dr also never understeers (except on wet roundabouts if I'm driving badly). On tight fast corners, as you say, the back end steps out slightly and this can be controlled by the throttle.
What MY is your 5dr? (Mine is a standard MY98)

I've got a 5dr DBM MY00 Dutch import and it's great fun, practical and fast. If it wasn't for the two kids and double buggy in the back, I'd have a 4 door though. The 4 door is better looking but there is not much in it, it ain't going to win any beauty contests is it! The 5 door is more anonymous and just as quick. A whole load of info including how to import a loaded new one for £16k at:

I was looking at a five door but was seduced by the dark side and bought a four door 'cos it looks better (ok ok Nito's does look cool!). I went for a WRX too, and there is power difference between the 4 and 5 doors in the earlier cars. It did cost me another £300 notes though to get roof bars and a box to make up for the space I lost! Can't put your dog in a roof box though.

I needed to replace my Alpine GTA turbo (had it 7 yrs) with something more practical. Thought briefly about Volvo T5r est or Audi S2 est but settled on STi3 5dr.
Had it for 6 months, been to Spain on hols with the windsurfing gear, drive it to work each day.
What can I say, outrageous!
Cheers, Simon.

Hi all,
The info regards power split came via dealer when he sold me the car.....I was looking at a new four door, but the practical side of the five door won as loads of my previous motors were 5 door hatches and very practical.
The dealer entered into conversation about the versions(22b as one example) with a variable diff so that torque could be slpit say 30/70,20/80 80/20 etc,He had first hand experience of driving these cars and trying different splits, with some good bad and indifferent results. He said that 50/50 in standard 4 door seemed a setting that would give most drivers a safe drive ,as ultimately the car would understeer....suprise suprise from the point of view of most manufacturers...safety and the average driver caught unawares.
I then asked about performance differences, suspension settings etc as the car is heavier built at the back in 5 door guise. This he responded to with "its got a slightly stiffer rear end and 40/60 split as regards power.I agree with other postings that the car feels v neutral....provoking it has produced a rear end "hop out" which under the circumstances suggests oversteer....I have seen a bit of understeer but again the car was driven in a manner which would usually create understeer.
WET round abouts give a big smile and controlable on throttle powerslides....if you want them....more throttle the back lets go.....suggests more rear power.....also very very noticable in the snow.....rear end always spinning first......
