Collected my roll cage today!
Lots of work to do first though.. need to really pull my finger out, will take some up to date pics soon started on with fitting the new sill.
got so fed up of machine mart's 'disposable' spot weld drill bits I bought another one like I used to use.. except this was a Ti Cobalt one from RS for about £6 and its the bollox
Also bought an air cut of tool.. thats proper ****... cant grind let alone cut.
Need to try a different make and see what they are like.
Anyway seam welding is nearly complete on the underside.. boot floor still to remove.. petrol tank mounts to remove, spare brackets to remove, chassis leg to adjust, front of car still to cut off..
Once the seam welding is complete and the sill is fitted I will probably prep the rest of the bare metal, underside etc and get them covered in an etch primer (well its actually a self etching primer - not tried it before but see how it goes) ill then have to re-prime around the cage but thats not an issue as that will need doing anyway. Once thats done Ill get the complete car in primer and then paint the car
Now Im currently between jobs again I might get on with it

Cut the front off?
A tube front must weigh about the same as the wriggly tin one?
Mind you, if you integrate the tube front as a substitute for the cross member... and use a flip front in composite...that will slice a kilogram or 30 off the front end. That sounds a good idea to me. Drag racer style and practicality! Be easy to change the bloody plugs.
And take the engine/box out in one horizontal motion.
It would also free a lot of space for the turbo in a more radical position...
You can weld it to the multipont roll cage.
Do you mean remove the boot floor, or remove and 'vortex' the rear floor area with the steel pan/well out? Ground effects!
Am I getting close or just dreaming David?
I feel a sketch of your car coming on! (or a cartoon)
hope it will be radical.
Press-on

Exclusive pics of Davids car.
Hope he won't start 'coughing' at me, or AndyF start telling me off...

Great fun sketching it i must admit.
What a great project. Wish I had the b@lls to do it to mine.
I do have another design for the Wallis Machine, but I'll save it.
Graham
ps Have you seen David in the second pic. Look closely.

They took ages, about 30 mins.
Strangely, the Impreza has very few strong features (yes really) unlike a 911 which is simply glorious to draw, so it was a bit awkward to do them.
Still, bit of a lark!
There is in fact a gallary of sketches, but i do them for my Motorsport mates, and always draw Xmas/wedding anniversary/Valentine/birthday cards for wife and daughter..bloody knackering thinking of themes..
glad they amuse some body.

Sill is completely off now.. need to find camera.. will be fitting doors to check fitment tonight and then welding it on.. may also remove some of the rear arch due to rot.
Cutters to profile the ends of the cage arrived to day from cord.. thought RB Motorsport were giving me a free OS Giken Clutch at first Oh well can dream of a free clutch..
So anyway.. hopefully seam welding will be complete in the next few days (around another 4 hours or so work) but having to fit a kitchen for my sister still..

I am focused, however kitchen is more important than car..
did kitchen today till 3.30 as dad had an appointment with the nurse that we had to get back for, got a masons mitre left to do, screw worktops down and plumb the sink in..
So not much more to do
As for the car, have tack welded the sill on. just need to position the bottom edge then crack on with a lot of welding
Looking a lot better now.

Did a bit this morning at about 9am after dropping mondeo off for some work and an MOT.. see this is how bad it is.. paying someone to fix one of my cars!!
Anyway.. sill is 99% complete.. just need to weld lower edge and apply filler.. anyway pics after tea or later this evening.
